Temples are an important part of religion and culture in India. Some of the most famous temples in India include the Virupaksha Temple in Karnataka, known for its UNESCO World Heritage status, the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh built in the Dravidian style, and the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, one of the twelve jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva.

Temple which is called “Mandira” in Sanskrit is a house of worship.

Temples
in India reflect the cultural glory and history of a place. In India, a temple is
considered as a place where humans spiritually connect with God. Temples
are built on the principles of Vastu shastra, known as “Shilpa Shashtra”. It
is a symbolic, miniature representation of the cosmos.

Temple Pradesh known as Tirupathi Balaji.

two more names for Prabhas
Patan. It is one of Lord Shiva's 12
jyotirlinga shrines.

refurbished the temple in 1947.

• This Puri temple is well-known for
its yearly chariot event, Ratha
Yatra.
• King Indradyumna commissioned
the first Jagannath temple.
• The temple is dedicated to three
deities: Jagannath, Balabhadra,
and Subhadra.

Gangotri Temple Uttarakhand • on the banks of the Bhagirathi

Badrinath Temple Uttarakhand • It is located in Garhwal hill along


the banks of the Alaknanda River
