MY STORY:
Ask the pupils how their summer vacation was. Then, ask them if their summer break had rules, for
example during the time of pandemic, where there some DO’s and DONT’S that they needed to obey?
Now that they are back in school, they will be obeying the same rules they had followed in their
previous years, and perhaps some new ones. Ask them to recall some of these rules in school and those
at home. Then, have them write these down in the table provided.
End by saying that rules bring order and security in a community. Rules make our life safer and more
enjoyable.

Guide Questions:
God spoke all these words. He said, ” I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt,
out of the house of slavery. Do not have other gods before me. Do not make yourself a carved image or
any likeness of anything in Heaven, or on the earth beneath or in the waters under the earth. You shall
not bow down to them or serve them. For I the Lord your God, am a jealous God; for the sin of the
fathers, when they rebel against me. I punish the sons, grandsons and the great grandsons; but I show
steadfast love until the thousandth generation for those who love me and keep my commandments. Do
not take the name of the Lord your God in vain for the Lord will not leave unpunished anyone who takes
his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy. For the six days the Lord made the
Heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, but on the seventh day he rested; that is why
the Lord has blessed the Sabbath day and made it Holy. – Honour your father and your mother that you
may have long life in the land that the Lord has given you . -Do not kill. Do not commit adultery. –Do
not steal. Do not give false witness against your neighbour. –Do not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his
servant, man or woman, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is his.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
WE BELIEVE:
The Ten Commandments are the laws intended by God to bring us salvation. They are the signs we
should obey in order to gain eternal life.
When God freed the people, Moses made them understand his plan for them. Through Moses, God
entered into a covenant with His people because He loved them. He wanted them to live peacefully
with one another. He told them that they would be His people and He would be their God. if they
followed His rules. These rules would be their Guide for honest living. These would be the bases of
their behaviour as true children of God, and thus inherit eternal life. These rules are called the ten
commandments. Our covenant with the Lord to obey his teachings means that we have the
responsibility to be obedient. We give the Lord this promise, and it is our duty to keep this promise.
The commandments given by God to Moses at Mount Sinai are summarized by Jesus in His two greatest
commandments which are to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and to love your neighbour as you
love yourself. (Matthew 22:34-39). This is the new law.
To love God with all your heart, mind and soul concerns the first to the Third commandments while to
love our neighbour as we love ourselves is what the fourth to tenth commandments are all about.
The ten commandments and Jesus’ two greatest commandments are the same. The only difference is
that, in the commandments at Sinai, God sent Moses to reveal them, while in the new law, it was Jesus,
the Son of God himself, who gave it.
God loves His children so much that He wants them to enjoy eternal life. The way to eternal life is
through the observance of His laws.
Following Christ law of love is the same as following the ten Commandments. By being faithful to
Christ’s teaching, we will have the chance to reach Heaven and share in God’s Kingdom.
The law of God are expressions of His love and faithfulness to His people. The ten commandments, also
known as the DECALOGUE, help the person attain the fullness of life by loving God and His neighbour. It
points to the ways on how to live an honest life as one gives the proper reverence to God and perform
his duties towards others. It is man’s signpost so he will bring the best to himself as a child of God, freed
2
from the slavery of sin because God wants to live peacefully and faithfully with Him and with one
another.
Though the Commandment have the form of prohibitions, they are also a deliverance from the
slavery of sin. (CFC 873)
WE LIVE
The Laws of God are born out of his love for his people. We are the new people of God. We,
like the Israelites are expected to remain faithful to the Lord. The laws of God must rule our
life. We must respond to them by our obedience and love not only to God but to our neighbour
as well. This is what our new law wants from us. We can attain our own “promised Land”.
Depending on how much we love God. And on how faithful we are to the teachings of Jesus.
We should keep our promise to the Lord by doing His will for us.
Let the pupils tell the ways how they can live the topic on necessity and purpose of rules in our
lives. The laws of God are born of His love for His people. We are the new people of God.
Ask some pupils to sum up their learning for the topic discussed.
WE CELEBRATE
Jesus’ laws of love may sometimes difficult to follow. Loving God with everything we are and
our neighbour as we love ourselves isn’t as easy as it sounds. Compose a prayer asking Jesus to
help you when it’s hard to obey.
Explain that following rules is sometimes hard to do, especially if they go against what we
want to do. We need to ask Jesus’ help to obey.

Assignment:
1. OBJECTIVES:
Start the lesson with a song “In Him alone” as the opening prayer. You may post beforehand
the lyrics of the song on the board so that those who know the song can join in the singing.
Ask the pupils to look at the illustrations below. Have them honestly rank these according to
their importance. Let them do the activity. Use the THINK, PAIR And SHARE method. Then, let
them answer the last question.
GOD’S STORY:
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert that he might be put to the test by the devil. After
spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry. Then the devil came to Him and
said, “if you are the Son of God, order this stones to turn into bread.” But Jesus answered ,
Scripture says “One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the
mouth of God.” Then the devil took Jesus to the Holy City, set Him on the highest wall of the
temple and said to Him, “if you are the son of God, throw yourself down, for scripture says: God
has given orders to His angels concerning you. Their hands will hold you up lest you hurt your
foot against a stone.” Jesus answered, “but scripture also says, You shall not put the Lord your
God to the test.” Then the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain, and showed him all the
nations of the world in all its greatness and splendour. And He said, “all these I will give you, if
you kneel down and worship me.” Then Jesus answered, “Be off Satan! Scripture says: Worship
the lord your God and serve him alone”. Then the devil left him and angels came to serve him.
Unlock some words in the passage by asking them to read “WE UNDERSTAND THAT... on page
15. Relate the previous activity with the Gospel passage about the temptation of Jesus. Have
the pupils read the temptation of Jesus with background music. Assess the pupils
understanding by asking questions
GUIDE QUESTIONS;
1. What were the three (3) things the devil tempted Jesus with?
WE BELIEVE
Have the pupils read silently the first paragraph of “WE BELIEVE” ON PAGE 12. Tell them that
Jesus, being human was also tempted by the devil. The devil tried to lure Him to sin using
human satisfaction, fame, wealth and power. But Jesus knew how cunning the devil is. He was
able to resist His temptations no matter how satisfying they were. Relate the teachings of the
temptations of Jesus with the Church teaching. Have them read aloud the text from the
Catechism of the Filipino Catholics (CFC 884) inside the box. Tell them that when the devil
wanted Jesus to worship Him in exchange of the world, Jesus told Him that god alone should be
worshipped. As Christians, loving and serving Him is our first duty. Post on the board the first
Commandment. Ask them how they understand it. Focus on the word “idolatry”. Define the
word and explain that it could also refer to anything that distracts them from worshipping God
alone. Ask the pupils what are some of the things that distract them. Allow them to answer.
Process their answers by saying that their answers are not “IDOLS” in themselves. But if a
person chooses these distractions over God, then they became falls images.
Stress also that the statues we have of our Saints are not idols because we don’t worship them.
We only venerate them. Have them read and understand the last paragraph of WE BELIEVE ON
PAGE 13.
“ALTHOUGH we have statues of Mary and the Saints, they are not false gods because we do not
worship them nor do they replace God. We venerate them for they draw us closer to Him.
They help us increase our faith through their very own lives”.
WE LIVE:
Distribute small pieces of papers or ask them to produce ¼ sheet of pad paper. Ask them to to
reread quietly GOD’S STORY and see how the devil temps Jesus, the words he uses to to try to
lure the Lord to sin. Tell them to write on the piece of paper the words the devil had used on
them when he tried to temp, too. You may give the following examples:
“there’s still time for study later. Go on and play with your friends while your parents are out.
They won’t know”
‘Watch your favourite show now. You’ll enjoy that better than doing homework. What’s one
missed homework when you can enjoy watching TV?”
“that’s Php100 on the floor. No one’s around. Go on, pick it up and buy yourself a great lunch.
It’s the fault of the person who dropped it for not taking care of his money”
Collect the pieces of paper when they’re done. Tell them that after you read a “ temptation”,
they will say together, “No, I worship God alone!” after reading a few, explain to them that
saying NO may be difficult at times. We must always put God at the center of our lives and live
in His grace.
WE CELEBRATE:
Do the activity on page 14
The first commandment tells us to put God first in everything. How do you put God first in your
everyday activities? Draw them below.
Let us also ask for the grace of God to be able to obey the first commandment, not only out of
sense of duty, but because we truly love God and want to thank Him in return for wanting to
give us eternal life.

111. PROCEDURE:
MY STORY:
Start the lesson with a prayer from the book of Psalm 66:1-4. A song of praise and
thanksgiving. Do the activity on page18. They may create a name tag from the cardboard.
Process the activity by asking the following questions .
*Tell them that names are very important. We must take care not to do anything that
will destroy our names. In the same way, let us not do anything that will destroy other
people’s reputation or their name. Let us not spread gossip about others nor tell lies
about them. If there’s nothing good a person can say about people, it is better then not
to say anything.
Ask them, “however, if there’s only one name that we should respect, whose name is
it? Tell them that they’ll find the answer in GOD’S STORY.
GOD’S STORY:
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he had finished, one of his
disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” And
Jesus said to them, “when you pray, say this: Father, may your name be held Holy, may

your kingdom come; Give us this day the kind of bread we need and forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive all who do us wrong and do not bring us to the test. - LUKE 11:1-4
Unlock the words in the passage by going through with them the words in WE
UNDERSTAND THAT...
WE BELIEVE:
Post the second commandment on the board. Have them read allowed the
commandment together. Tell them that Jesus teaches us to praise and respect always
the Father’s name. Tell that putting all our trust and faith in God we are glorifying
God’s name. Let the pupils read the first paragraph of WE BELIEVE:
“Jesus gave us the example of how we can follow the second commandment when He
thought His disciples the Lord’s prayer and call on God as Father. Prayer is the way of
talking to God and believing in His greatness, power and presence, and that He is a
Father who provides and cares for His children. The disciples believed that when they
pray, God is present with them and will provide them with what they need. God’s name
must be used with reverence and respect because He is God. Saying God’s name with
reverence is an expression of our love for Him, in response for His great love for us,
Jesus taught us to say, “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name....” if we
honor and respect the name of our parents and friends who love us, how much more
the name of the one God who loves us more than anyone else?
In the same way it is not only God’s name that we should treat with reverence.
Everything that belongs to God in a special way is sacred and should be treated with
great respect for they remind us of Him.
Check the things associated with God which should also be treated with reverence and
respect.
2
WE LIVE
HOW CAN WE OBEY THE SECOND COMMANDMENT?
We give reverence to the name of God when we give respect to the things that are closely
associated with Him as well as places set aside for worship. So when we go to mass on Sunday,
let us be reverent in the way we dress, in our actions, and in our responses. Let us be
disciplined and quiet, out of respect for the Lord whose house we are visiting.
WE CELEBRATE:
ONE of the ways to respect God’s name is to use it in a prayer. When we pray we recognize
God’s power and presence in our lives. Compose a prayer telling God of your promise to treat
His Holy Name with love and respect.
This may serve as their closing prayers at the end of the class.

UNLOCKING OF WORDS:
Pharisees - a Jewish religious group known for its strict obedience to the law
given to Moses.
Link the activities that families do together and gathering together as one family
of God. Then, show to them the vedio clip of “Jesus healing on the Sabbath”
On another Sabbath, Jesus entered the synagogue and begun teaching. There
was a man with a paralyzed right hand, and the teacher of the law and the
Pharisees watched Him: Would Jesus heal the man on the Sabbath? If he did,
they could accuse Him. But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to the man, “get
up, and stand in the middle.” Then He spoke to them, “I want to ask: what is
allowed by the law on a Sabbath? To do good or to do harm, to save life or to
destroy it?” and Jesus looked around at them all. Then He said to the man,
“stretch out your hand”. He stretched it out, and his hand was restored,
becoming as healthy as the other. But they were furious, and begun to discuss
with one another how they could deal with Jesus.
_____________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________
3. What does the Bible passage tell you about the Sabbath day?
_____________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________.
WE BELIEVE:
According to the church, resting on the seventh day means that there should be no unnecessary
work on this day. However, these does not only mean that work should not be done on a
Sabbath day. Rather, it also means that man should dedicate this day to God. It means enjoying
the opportunity and the blessing to be close to God, to His people and to the rest of His
creation. The Lord’s day should be a day for Him, for peace, and rest without the worries
resulting from man’s daily work.
“The Third Commandment enjoins us to keep holy the day set aside
for the worship of God and for recreation” --- CFC 903
The Pharisees and the teachers of the law observe the law strictly. This is why they watch
Jesus’ every move so that they can accuse him of violating the law. But Jesus is the Lord of the
Sabbath. He perfected the law about the Sabbath when He cured the man with a withered
hand. He did it because that was the right thing to do. He emphasized that life and human
beings are more important than the law. This means that doing good things on the Lord’s day is
not a violation of the third commandment, as long as it is done for the love of God and others
and not for our interest and profit.
Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath and life and human beings are more important than the law.
We live
For us Catholics, Sunday is the Lord’s day. The Apostles wanted the disciples to come together
for worship on the first day of the week – Sunday (see Acts 20:7) God wants us to spend it
worship of Him and in doing good to others for his greater glory, as Jesus did. God wants us to
rest from our daily work and to have time with the whole family to worship Him every Sunday in
the Mass with the other members of the Church. Also, He wants us to have time to share
ourselves in the service of others.
We keep the Lord’s Day holy by resting from heavy work or what we normally do during the
week, and by coming together as God’s family during Holy Mass. The Mass is the highest form
of prayer we can offer to God. It is in the mass that we find the goals of true prayer:
thanksgiving, praise, adoration and petition. It is a special time for remembering and sharing
the wonderful things Jesus has done for us. When we go to Mass on Sundays, we express our
gratitude and thanksgiving to God.
Aside from participating actively in the Mass, we can also make the Lord’s Day Holy by giving our
service to people who are in need, and by being at peace and joyful with one another.
However, the Church teaches us that doing good deeds alone on Sundays does not take the
2
place of attending Mass. We are still obliged to go to Sunday Mass even if we do good deeds to
our neighbour on that day.
To sum up the learning of the pupils, let them DO THE ONE SENTENCE SUMMARY on w hat they
learn from the lesson on the third commandment.
WE CELEBRATE
I CELEBRATE MY FAITH
It is in the Holy Mass that we remember and make present Christ saving act for us. Let us always
try to participate actively in the Mass and live out the final blessing to go in peace, to love and
serve the Lord.

MY STORY:
Start the lesson with the song “In Him Alone”. Let them tell the message of the song. Do the

GUIDE QUESTIONS:
GOD’S STORY
WE UNDERSTAND THAT....
THE Lord said to Abram, “ leave your country , your family and your father’s house, for the land I
will show you. I will make you a great nation. I will bless you and make you and make your
name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses
you, I will curse, and in you all peoples of the earth will be blessed.” So Abram went as the Lord
had told him, and Lot went with him, Abram was seventy five years old when he left Haran.
When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty. Walk in
my presence and be without blame. I will make a covenant between myself and you, and I will
multiply your race.”Abram fell face down and God said to him, “this is my covenant with you;
you will be the father of a multitude of nations. No longer will you be called Abram, but
Abraham. because I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. I will give to you and
your descendants after you the land you are living in, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting
possession and I will be the God of your race.” God said to Abraham, “as for your wife Sarai, no
longer are you to call her Sarai, but Sarah. I will bless her, and I will give you a son by her. I will
bless her will come nations; kings and peoples shall come from her.
---GENESIS 12:1-4; 17:1-5, 8, 15-
16
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
WE BELIEVE
Deepen the biblical text by explaining the message. Tell the pupils that God was very pleased
with Abraham because he was faithful and obedient to Him and lived his life worthily. Abraham
glorified God by the way he lived his life. And God rewarded him generously for it. Explain to
them that Abraham and Sarah were childless. Thus, Abraham’s joy was so great when God
promised him, “I will multiply your race” and “you will be the father of a multitude of nations”
In another passage, he was promised descendants “more numerous than the stars.”
When God told Abraham to leave his own land and go with his family to a land unknown to him,
he packed his belongings and obeyed the Lord. Abraham readily obeyed God because he knew
who God was and ha believe that he would not ask him do things which would put him in
danger. It was his great faith, his complete trust in God, that made him obey. Because of his
great faith, he was blessed by God with descendants “more numerous than the stars in the sky.”
God made him the father of all nations.
Faith is our positive, total and personal response to God’s act of revealing himself. It is our “yes”
to Jesus’ call to follow him. Faith is the establishment of a personal relationship with Jesus and
through Him with the Father in the Holy Spirit. Through Christ we come to know who God is in
his teachings, preaching and miracles especially in his passion, death and resurrection. Through
this we come to believe that Christ was sent to be our Savior by the Father in the Holy Spirit.
(Catechism of the Filipino Catholics 124) .
Abraham did not only have great faith in God, he followed this through by doing God’s will. In
doing so, he glorified God. He was a true witness of God’s love because he led a life pleasing to
Him, accompanying his faith with actions.
We too could be pleasing to God when we put our trust and faith in Him, be obedient and live
our lives according to his will. This is easier done if we come to know more about God in the
teachings of Christ.
WE LIVE
As descendants of Abraham, our father in faith, we are called to show our faith and trust in God.
By putting by putting him first in our lives, loving and serving him through others. He would like
us to make him known to others by being true witnesses, and be his instruments who keep far
from him. We can do this by glorifying Him through our words and deeds. We give God glory
when we participate well in the Holy Mass and when we help those in need.
WE CELEBRATE
There’s another story in the Bible that shows Abraham’s great faith in God. God asked Abraham
to sacrifice his Son, Isaac. You can imagine how Abraham felt about this, but still he went to do
it as told. The Lord was happy with Abraham. He told him that since Abraham had shown great
faith, He spared the life of the boy. Do you have a personal story of faith? Do you know anyone
who has? Do some research and write the story here. You may even post pictures about it,

DISCUSSION/SUMMARY
Every year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover, as was
customary. And when Jesus was twelve years old, he went up with them, according to the
custom of the feast. After the festival was over, they returned, but the boy Jesus remained in
Jerusalem, and his parents did not know it. They assumed that he was in their group of
travellers, and after walking the whole day, they looked for him among their relatives and
friends. As they didn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem searching for Him, and on the
third day, they found him in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking
questions. And all the people were amazed at his understanding and his answer. His parents
were very surprised when they saw him, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done
this to us? Your father and I were very worried while searching for you.” Then he said to them,
“why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my father’s house?” but they
did not understand this answer. Jesus went down with them, returning to Nazareth, and he
continued to be obedient to them. As for his mother, she kept all these things in her heart. And
Jesus increased in wisdom and age, and in Divine and human favour.
WE REMEMBER
-The fourth commandment commands us to love and respect our parents because they are the
