SCHOOL BEHAVIOUR POLICY
Students, parents, teachers, support staff, principal, and school board share responsibility for
creating a school-wide approach to maintaining a positive and inclusive school climate where all
students are supported to develop healthy relationships, make good choices, and achieve success
in their learning.
Good behaviour and discipline are key foundations for good education. Without an orderly
atmosphere, effective teaching and learning cannot take place. We expect and insist on the highest
standards of behaviour throughout our school.
Discipline at Podar’s is associated with positive acts and feats of learning rather than the negative
consequence of punishment.
As a school, we are clear that corporal punishment will never be used to enforce discipline. The
school also undertakes the responsibility to regularly support teachers with respect to classroom
management and handling of challenging behaviours through in-service trainings.
The Principal and the staff are responsible for discipline during school hours. The parents also
play a significant role in maintaining discipline of the students.
Role of Students
• Students are expected to maintain high standard of behavior and manner of speech. Students
must be polite when communicating with fellow students, parents, teachers, office and
auxiliary staff. Foul language and profanities must not be used in the school premises,
playground or bus. Older students must set a good example for younger students.
• Students will be answerable to the school authorities for their conduct in and outside the
school.
• Students must reach the school on time for assembly. Students who disregards this rule
without valid reason will face appropriate action.
• Students must obey Student Council Members to maintain discipline of the school
• Students must not vandalize School Property. Any damage to the school property must be
made good by concerned offender.
• Physical or mental bullying will not be tolerated. If bullying occurs, the teachers and/or
school authorities will take prompt action. Severe cases may result in suspension or
expulsion.

• Students shall be respectful to all staff members or fellow students.
• Forming exclusive groups in classes is discouraged.
• Chewing gum or similar substances must not be brought to school.
• Students must adhere to school directives on the use of school facilities.
• Classroom, school property and premises are to be kept clean at all times.
There must be no graffiti on any walls or property. Students need to take every care to
preserve and protect the classroom and school property. Parent/guardian shall compensate
for any damages/loss caused by their children.
• The use of the office telephone by students is restricted to emergencies and may be used
with the permission of the coordinator. No mobile phones are permitted.
If and when the faculty finds a student adhering to the aforementioned rules consistently,
he/she will be rewarded in a way the faculty deems appropriate.
Academics
• Students are expected to speak in English during school hours in order to ensure proficiency
in English.
• They should participate in class discussion and refrain from chorus answering. Complete
their class and home written-assignments Submissions shall be done in time.
• They shall be maintaining discipline in class and should not indulge in any disruptive
behavior.
• Students shall follow the Class timetable. Extra books not to be carried.
• Students must avoid being absent specially during test and exams, no re-exam or re-test
will be conducted.
• Students must carry school diary daily.
Rules for operating gadgets in classrooms:
• Make sure that the following classroom devices are not misused and/or played around with
under any circumstances. Ensure that it is only used by the faculty, unless stated otherwise.

• Switch off these devices when they are not in use and handle them with utmost care.
• They are valuable assets to you and the school.

Rules for library:
• Move quietly towards the library
• Maintain silence in the library
• Read the book that has been issued.
• Sit comfortably and quietly at the assigned place.
• Seek permission from the librarian for referring to a library book.
• Maintain the books in good condition
• Return the books on time
• Keep the chair back in its place before leaving
• The last person to leave the library, must switch off the lights and fans while exiting.
Rules for Canteen
• Adhere to the time slot of your break
• Eat at a normal pace.
• Respect the food in front of you and the meal brought by your classmate .
• Treat canteen employees with respect
• Clean up after your meal.
Rules for Labs:
• Students should not be allowed to touch any chemicals or lab equipment unless they are
instructed to do so.
• Students must work in the Science Laboratories in the presence of the teacher
• Students must follow all the written and verbal instructions when conducting the science
experiment. In case they do not follow anything, they must clarify it first.
• It is imperative to be alert and cautious in the science laboratory. Eating, drinking, playing
pranks, using mobile phones, or listening to music is strictly prohibited.
• Before using any chemicals, read the label carefully. When mixing chemicals or conducting the
experiment, keep the test tube containing the chemical away from face, mouth, and body.
• Unused chemicals should never be put back in the original bottle. They must be disposed off as
per the guidelines given by the lab assistant or the science teacher.
• Examine glassware before using. Avoid using chipped or cracked test tubes or beakers.
• If any accident takes place, do not panic. Inform your teacher immediately for help.
Rules for maintaining sanitation and hygiene in washrooms:
• It is expected that students keep all areas and fixtures in good condition.
• Students will respect the privacy of others at all times.

• Students will wash and dry their hands with an appropriate amount of hand wash liquid soap
(one pump) and water after using the restroom.
• Students will also enter the washrooms following the left hand rule (walk on your left side
of the corridor) especially during recess.
• Students must not carry any writing material to washrooms. They must not scribble or write
anything on the washroom walls.
• Students are encouraged to use the suggestion boxes placed in the vicinity of every
washroom.
Rules for Dispersal
• Stay seated unless instructed otherwise.
• Follow the instructions of the student council members/teachers during dispersal.
• Keep quiet during the dispersal as it may lead to miscommunication during announcements.
• Keep a good pace that ensures smooth dispersal.
School Uniform
• Students are to wear the prescribed uniform and modification of uniform is not allowed.
Students must wear ID-cards daily to school.
• Uniform must be clean and ironed and shoes must be polished. Black shoes to be worn with
regular uniform and white canvas shoes to be worn preferably with PE uniform. No other
footwear will be allowed.
• In case PE/Yoga is mentioned in the timetable, the PE uniform must be worn on that day. On
the other days, regular uniform must be worn.
• Black sandals/floaters to be worn during rainy season.
• A simple a n a l o g wristwatch with a black, brown or metal strap may be worn. No
watch withadditional gadgets or games are permitted.
• The only jewellery permitted is small loops or studs. No chains, bangles or wristbands
shall be worn. School will not be responsible for any loss of jewellery.
• No toys/gadgets should be brought to school. If found, it will be confiscated and strict
disciplinary action will be taken.
• Hair must be neatly combed back and trimmed and not fall on the face. Coloring, perming or
straightening of hair is not permitted. Girls with long hair to tie two ponytails or two plaits.
Girls with short hair to wear blue colour hair band.
• Nails must be short and clean. No nail polish is to be worn to school.
• For the consideration of every person in the school, students should not smell strongly of
either perfume or body odour.
Punctuality and Attendance Policy
• Students are expected to be on the school premises before 7:00 am every morning for morning
shift and 12:15 pm for afternoon shift.

• If the student is absent for any reason, the class or subject teacher/s cannot be expected to
send catch-up work home or facilitate extra classes. Discretion remains with the individual
teachers and/or coordinators on this matter and shall be considered on a case to case basis.
• If the student is consistently marked late, the school will take appropriate disciplinary
action. The student might be sent home and in that case, will miss the day’s instruction.
• Permission to come late to school may be granted at the discretion of the school.
• Parents must inform the school of any lateness appropriately and in a timely manner.
• If a child is off school for any amount of time exceeding three days for a medical reason,
the school must be provided with a doctor's note from a registered practitioner before the
child attends the school again.
• In case of absence, an email addressed to the Class teacher with a cc to the Principal is
required.
• Students are not permitted to leave the school premises during regular school hours without
prior permission from the Principal.
• A letter stating reasons for any sanction of leave should be addressed to the class teacher
will be considered in consultation with the leadership one week in advance. It is expected
that parents will not have the child take leave on school events and during compulsory
educational trips.
• Parents must not assume that leave is automatically granted because they have submitted an
application.
• No leave may be taken on the last day before the vacation, or on the opening day of school
after the vacation.
• Any other leave that a student takes during the academic period of the school will be entered
in the student's record as an unauthorized leave. During the unauthorized leave, the teacher
is not responsible for helping the student to make up any of the work missed in school. If
there is a graded assignment on this day, the student will not be graded, and the performance
grade will not be adjusted. No retest will be given.
Note- At all times, discretionary powers lie with the school’s administration. Hence transparent,
clear and honest communication by parents will assist the school administration to make fair
and validdecisions to do with leave.
Anti- bullying:
The following constitutes bullying:
Bullying can be:
• -Physical: hitting, pushing and shoving, fighting, tripping someone, yelling at someone, making
rude gestures, taking or breaking another person’s things.
• -Emotional: name calling, making fun of someone, laughing at someone, leaving someone out
on purpose, starting rumors or telling lies about someone, sending mean messages on a
computer or a cell phone, trying to make someone feel bad about who they are.

Refrain from such behavior and if a student sees something similar to any of the aforementioned
things, report to the nearest staff member.
See something, say something!
School Transport
• The students availing the school transport must wear Transport ID-cards daily to school.
• Any communication with the school about not using the school bus on a certain day must
reach the school through an email to Principal that is sent before 9:00 am on that day.
• Please do not call individuals in the admin department to pass on requests for bus travel – it
is difficult at dispersal time to ensure that these are followed.
• Students must remain seated in the school bus for their own safety. They are not allowed to
go out of bus for any reasons.
• They must comply with the instructions given by the bus attendants and treat them with
respect.
• Any reported instance of rudeness with the bus attendants, or misbehaviour such as use of
bad language, fights, bullying .etc on the bus or at bus stops will be dealt with firmly by the
school.
• If an incident occurs, an investigation using the CCTV camera footage that is recorded on
the buses may take place. Parents should report any incidents to the school without delay.
• If the student misses the school bus, parents are responsible for making sure that the
student reaches school on time.
Rules for Riding the Bus Safely:
• Take your seat promptly and sit properly, facing forward at all times.
• Place bags and parcels under your seat or on your lap.
• Keep the aisle of the bus clear at all times.
• Always keep your head, hands and arms inside the bus.
• Keep the bus clean. Littering is prohibited.
• Avoid conversation with the driver at all times.
• Fighting, shouting, or use of obscene language is not permitted.
• Be absolutely quiet when approaching a railroad crossing.
• Participate in all bus evacuation procedures.
• Dangerous, disturbing, or annoying objects are not permitted on the bus.
• Eating and drinking (this includes chewing gum) is not allowed on school buses at
any time. This rule protects students/drivers, who have food allergies and anaphylaxis,
prevents choking, and maintains bus cleanliness.
• Be aware that other students, including the bus driver, may have allergies to scents such as
perfume, etc. Act accordingly.

Role of Parents
• Parents should insist on good conduct and discipline from children at all times.
• Parents should check their ward’s diary daily and sign the remarks in case given by the
teacher. The three personal memo pages in the diary are to be filled in and signed by the
parents.
• Parents must discourage criticism of the school and the teachers.
• They must have trust and confidence in the school leadership team and teachers. The school
does welcome constructive feedback. However, please use appropriate channels and polite
means of communication, both verbal and written in case you have a matter that needs to be
addressed.
• The students must not to be used to ferry matters of complaint from home to school.
• Parents are required to meet the teachers by prior appointment only. If the outcome of a
teacher-parent meeting is not satisfactory, they are advised to mail or seek an appointment
with the Principal and coordinators for further discussion on the matter.
• Parents should not call the admin staff or teachers to pass on messages, except during
emergencies.
• The school takes a very serious view on any issues of bullying, kindly bring these to the
notice of the teachers.
• Refrain from tackling or resolving issues at school by approaching students directly.
• Teachers or school staff are not required to answer or respond to any communication, both
formal and informal outside of school hours. The decision to do so is at the discretion of
the teacher or staff member only.
• It is the sole responsibility of the parents to ensure that the student attends school in a
presentable and hygienic manner.
• The School takes any offensive or aggressive behaviour by parents (or associates) against
any member of the teaching or administrative staff seriously.
• Parents or guardians are expected to cooperate with the school authorities in enforcing
discipline, seeing to it that their children prepare their work and take a keen interest in the
activities of the School.
• Parents shall be appropriately dressed when they visit the school.
• Parents shall park their vehicles away from the school while they come to pick/drop their
ward. In any case, the vehicle should not be parked near the school gate.
• Parents or guardians must ensure that children attend, without fail, activities that take place
during or after school hours if their names are given or chosen for student School events,
Annual concert and other activities.
• Parents or guardians are requested to mention the nature of business when making an
appointment with the Principal or the teaching staff.
• Parents are requested not to disturb the teachers during class time or have interviews and
meetings with them during class hours.

• In emergencies, parents may contact the office during school hours. The child will be
informed accordingly with the permission of the Principal.
• Parents are advised not to allow their children to bring any valuables to school. School will
not be responsible for their belongings.
• The management reserves the right to dismiss students who make no progress in their
studies or whose conduct is detrimental to the orderly life of the school
• Irregular attendance, insubordination to teachers, habitual inattention to school work,
obscenity in words or actions, repeated damage to school property are sufficient reasons for
dismissal of a student.
• Parents must immediately notify in writing to school of any change of address, telephone
number and emergency contact details.
• It is expected that all stakeholders respect the authority of the school to act in the interest
of the larger community to maintain an environment that is nurturing, inclusive, fair to all
and harmonious.
Parents/guardians are expected to co-operate with the school authorities by enforcing
regularity and discipline.
