Yes, I have. It’s a bit challenging din kasi diba we speak English here sa bahay but then sa
school naman some of his classmates would use Ilonggo talaga, so its hard for him to express
and communicate with peers, other would not understand him, vice versa. Especially nung ano
quarantine so its modular diba last year when he was in grade 3 palang so mother tongue yung
subject Ilonggo gid tapos may mga words nga dalom gid even I di ko bal an some of the words
since we are bisaya so I would ask my husband or sometimes google pa so we can teach him. Its
confusing kasi mother tongue as a medium of instruction when he was in grade 3 tapos now na
grade 4 they would use English na. so the switching of language, English to Ilonggo is difficult
talaga. And the attention span of the child, when he was younger pa budlay gid mamaintain yung
attention nang bata so we would opt to give him say 1 hour to watch and play and then after that
study and do his homeworks.
3. How do you deal with such a difficult situation in order to keep your child's learning
I deal with difficult situation by ano lang gid, I would research it first just to make sure if I was
teaching the right thing. Kasi nahirapan din ako sa mother tongue magteach kasi were not
Ilonggo gid, I would ano rin ask my husband whats the meaning of this, that. For now naman na
grade 4 na siya, I would somehow speak in bisaya or sometimes tagalog so he could understand
also especially when he wants to converse with his peers. Practice and daily conversation. I
guess yun talaga nakapagdeal. For his short attention span din we will allow him to play din kasi
bata. Watch whatever he wants for an hour, after that we will do his homework na agad.
Negotiate gid. But now na medyo makaintindi na its easier for us to talk.
4. Do you have techniques that you employ when teaching English to your child?
Techniques hmmm everytime he comes home from school, I let him rest say for 1 hour ganon,
and we would converse in English about how is he, his day ganun so that makaconverse talaga
using English. That’s why sa subject nila na English especially grade 4 english na kasi wala na
mother tongue, mas nagging fluent sya and easy niya ma ahh understand yung instruction, yung
lesson ganun. So we would sit and have a conversation lang to recall and retain.
5. What are the other approach you used in facilitating your children acquisition of English
Yes, yung wall sa kwarto niya ginalagyan naming nang posters, instructional materials,
ginabilhan din books so that he could read anytime he wants to, every week end nagapabasa din
ako nang mga stories. Ahhh Giving foods as a reward if matapos naming yung pagturo. I guess
yun lang.

1. What are your experience with teaching English language?
To my eldest child, ang experiences ko when teaching language its challenging. Kasi he was
exposed to technology so he would always watch English videos, cartoons especially science
videos sa youtube. He was exposed as a child, until he adopt and learn the language, we also use
it at home din kasi, we speak English and Bisaya as a medium I thinks that’s also one of the
reason why he is exposed to it.
