PRODUCT KEY FEATURES (Technical Considerations)
1 FINE CLOSED CELL STRUCTURE
NBR foam from Insulflex are characterised by fine cell structure. Due to the closed cell structure,
it minimises moisture permeation to ensure steady and long-term thermal performance.

2 ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Insulflex NBR foam with a low thermal conductivity value (λ) of ≤ 0.034 W/(m·k) at 20°c to minimises
energy loses in order to give long-term energy savings.

3 LOW WATER PERMEABILITY

The cell structure and material of Insulflex offer a low water permeability and moisture resistance
factor of µ ≥ 10,000. Unlike other products, Insulflex NBR foam does not require additional vapour
barrier.

4 LOW WATER ABSORPTION

Low water absorption to ensures long-term thermal performance and prevent condensation.

5 SUPERIOR FIRE RESISTANCE

Insulflex NBR foam is certified with to conform to the safety, reliability and performance standard
of various local fire safety bodies such as British Standard, ASTM and FM Approved.

6 EASY-TO-INSTALL
Insulflex material is highly flexible to be fabricate and install in to odd shapes.

and excellent moisture resistance, and etc. It is specially
engineered to control and prevent condensation.
Insulflex products are made with a blend of NBR
(Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) that makes it uniquely
durable when exposed to moisture and water vapour.

Insulflex elastomeric nitrile foam insulation broadly

applicable for pipes (e.g copper, metal, pvc), air ducts,
vessels (including elbows, fittings and flanges) in
air-conditioning, refrigeration and process equipment
to prevent condensation and reduce energy loss.

Insulflex tube and sheet are dust and fibre free. Dust
and fibre flowing in air ducts may lead to discomfort
during breathing and may be harmful to health. In term • Insulflex Tube
of environmental protection, Insulflex tube and sheet
also produced with formaldehyde free, CFCs and
HCFCs free, and low volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) that are considered to be sustainable to our
environment and can be used in any kind of public,
commercial or industrial application without impacting
on health or air quality.

Insulflex tube and sheet are formulated to meet and

exceed international fire standards such as BS 476
Part 6 and 7, UL 94, ASTM E84, AS/NZS 1530.3 and
other standards. Moreover, Insulflex also offer FM

FM APPROVED

FM Approvals is a third-party testing and certification

service that was founded by FM Global, a mutual
insurance company that specialises in loss prevention.

The FM Approvals or the FM 4924 standard is an

approval requirement for insulation material used on
the exterior of non-combustible pipes or ducts. This
standard uses a full-scale pipe chase test for tube
insulation and a full-scale room test for duct insulation
(sheets). Tests in this standard are different from the
BS 476 standard where small samples are exposed to
heat or flame.

Products that bare the FM APPROVED certification

mark have undergone and passed rigorous testing,
ensuring that they can withstand the elements and
effectively limit the spread of fire.

At Insulflex, we ensure all our products are manufactured

in top-notch standard. FM approved products are
well known for their quality, technical integrity and
performance in stringent conditions. Having FM
approved mark assures you that the product of
choice will uphold the safety standards of your
project.

INSULFLEX TIPS FOR INSTALLATION

1 2 3 4

Seal all the joints with Insulflex Adhesive. Allow 3-5 minutes for the adhesive to get tacky and then apply pressure to
the area, maintaining a tight seal at the joints.

Once dry, apply Insulflex foam tape to the joint area. Do not stretch insulation when sealing joints. Ensure all air gaps
are sealed securely to enhance the insulation performance.

Improving insulation lifespan and performance by using:

• Correct insulation thickness.
• Install the insulation material by the recommended
installation guide.

Good installation:
• Seal the connection area with Insulflex foam tape to the
joint area to provide additional protection and avoid
condensation gaps.

Before commencement of any installation work, the correct

minimum insulation thickness must be determined for
condensation control purpose by taking into consideration of
the environment factors: -

• Maximum Humidity (%)

• Ambient Temperature (°C)
• Line Temperature (°C)
• Pipe Size (mm)

We have developed our mobile application to calculate

insulation thickness required and heat loss calculation for
Insulflex product range. Proper selection of insulation and
correct thickness can enhance the lifetime of heating,
plumbing, air-conditioning and cooling systems, energy
saving and minimise the loss of thermal load during the
transportation of cold or hot water use. Most importantly,
the correct selection of thickness insulation can avoid or
prevent condensation.

INSULFLEX RECOMMENDATION
Double/Multiple Layer Insulation Pipework

1 2 3 4

Generally, the butt joints and the longitudinal seams of the second layer should be staggered to those of the first layer.

In the case of multi-layer insulation, the first layer should be applied by using all-over Insulflex adhesive coverage.
The second layer should be adhered to first layer of the insulation.

Insulflex Cutting Template

1 2

The fabrication of bends and tees using Insulflex tube material requires tubes to be cut to different angles. In order to
make this process easier and quicker, the Insulflex cutting template is provided on every box of Insulflex.

1 . Place a copy of the Insulflex cutting template face up on a table or worktop.

2. Align an Insulflex tube across the template parallel to the horizontal base line.
3. Select the required angle cut from the template and cut along this line.
