1.5. Location selection
Select a location for installation that meets the following conditions and get the customer’s permission.
Select the location of the unit in such a way that neither the discharged air nor the sound generated by the unit disturbs
anyone.
In places where air short-circuiting will not happen, it should ensure a sufficient space to prevent short circuiting cycle when
installing several units.
Places where there is no barrier at the air inlet and outlet.
The foundation is strong enough to support the weight of the unit and the floor is flat to prevent vibration and noise
generation.
The piping length between the outside unit and the indoor unit may not exceed the allowable piping length.
Locations where the unit’s suction vent and outlet vent do not generally face the wind. Wind blowing directly into the suction
or outlet vents will interfere with the unit’s operation. If necessary, install some kind of obstruction to block the wind.
The space around the unit is adequate for servicing and the minimum space for air inlet and air outlet is available

6.3. EQUIVALENT PIPE LENGTH
Equivalent pipe length is the converted pipe length after considering the pressure loss caused by elbow etc.
Equivalent pipe length = Actual pipe length + Quantity of elbow x (equivalent length of elbow)
+ Quantity of Oil bending x (equivalent length of Oil bending)
+ Equivalent length of branch.
Each branch junction accounts for 0.5 meter equivalent length, each branch converging pipe accounts for 1.0
meter equivalent length. When the Y-type equivalent pipe length exceeds 90% of maximum permitted pipe
length, the size for gas side main pipe should be increased by 1-size.
Example: For 16kW outdoor unit, when the equivalent pipe length exceeds 65 m, the size for gas pipe should
be changed from 22.23 mm to 25.40 mm. When the size for gas side main pipe is increased by 1-size,
the derating factor for capacity drop will be reduced.

INSTALLATION
When EXV BOX is installed in the liquid pipe of the indoor unit, the length between indoor unit and EXV box , should not
exceed 5m. After the installation finished please connect the EXV control line into the indoor unit PCB. Note that the control
cable connections must be reliable, and the clamp firmly fixed. External EXV box cannot be connected with units supplied
with built-in EXV, otherwise the indoor unit will have no refrigerant flow.
WIRE CONNECTION EXAMPLE:
The EXV Box is supplied with a 3 mm core wire to connect indoor control board and EXV box. If the standard wire is not
long enough, please connect as explained in below pictures.

6.10. OIL TRAP DESIGN
Please use the oil trap design in the piping system as shown below.
5
Pioneer Digital Scroll VRF Systems
Note: While installing ĭ19.05 tube, if it is O style, the min thickness should not be less than 1.2 mm.
The distributor must be installed horizontally or vertically;
The comb type distributor must be installed horizontally;
The comb type distributor is directly connected with the indoor unit, and no branch connection is permitted;
Electronic expansion valve (throttling box) must be installed vertically (as shown in the right figure).
On the air tube, an oil return elbow must be provided for vertical ascending of every 10m.
The Electronic expansion valve (throttling box) should be installed in the place that insensitive to noise and convenient for
maintenance.
Tube connection should comply with the symbol on the box. The box should be in vertical and the hug on top. (It is only for
the unit with exterior EXV)
Refrigerant tube must be fixed in reliable (Indoor refrigerant tube cannot be placed directly on the weak stiffness ceilings)
It is recommended that a service valve should be installed on both main liquid tube and main gas tube for latter air tight test,
vacuuming and refrigerant charging.
Attention:
1. Ensure that there is nitrogen in the pipe during
welding.
2. Nitrogen pressure should not be too high and little
positive pressure is tolerable, or otherwise, the welding
may not be firm enough.
Pioneer Digital Scroll VRF Systems
7.4. REFFER TO THE RIGHT FIGURE FOR EXAMPLES:
After the refrigerant tubes for outdoor unit and indoor unit has been connected, the airtight test must be done for the
connecting tube and the indoor unit, and the test pressure should be 4.15MPa. when the pressure slowly rises to the
specified pressure, it should be maintained for 10min,, and then soapy water or other foaming agent are applied to the
connection positions, such as welding seams, screwed joints and so on for leak detection. After it has been confirmed that
the system does not leak, the dwelling test should be performed for the system. The system is charged with air up to the
pressure of 4.15MPa, which is maintained for 6h and then the manometer readings should be recorded. After 24h, the
manometer readings are recorded again. No pressure drop means that the air tightness is up to grade. If pressure drop
occurs, the leaking source should be found out and mended, and then the airtight test is carried on again until it is up to
grade.
Pioneer Digital Scroll VRF Systems
However, when the temperature at the pressurization is different from the ambient temperature, the pressure change of
0.13kg/cm2 may occur for every 1ć and should be corrected. Corrected value = (temperature at pressurization –
temperature at observation) × 0.13
Note:
Do not connect outdoor with indoor unit during the air tightness test; otherwise, it may result in nitrogen released into the
outdoor unit.
After the indoor unit air tightness test, connect outdoor with indoor unit, and then filled into (not to be higher than the
outdoor unit refrigerant pressure) refrigerant and nitrogen mixture at the pressure around 0.4MPa, and then conduct leak
detection on the outdoor unit connecting pipe ports.
Air tight inspection and related operations for oil balance pipe connection: module unit combination, evacuate the oil
balance pipe between the outdoor unit (open the valve on the outdoor unit to use its filling of refrigerant or with an external
refrigerant to evacuate the air), and then conduct leak detection on the outdoor unit connecting pipe ports using halogen
leak detection instrument, finally, if the air tight sound, then open all of the connected outdoor unit oil stop valve.
Warning:
1. When the pressure is applied for the airtight test, both air and liquid tubes are filled at the same time, for fear of pressure
unbalance at air and liquid sides.
2. Do not connect outdoor with indoor unit during the air tightness test; otherwise, it may result in nitrogen released into the
outdoor unit.
3. Do not check the R410A leakage using halogen detection instrument.
ATTENTION:
1. Vacuum pumping operation is performed from the liquid tube and the air tube at the same time (for various functional
parts are attached inside the indoor unit and may block out halfway). When the vacuum pumping is carried out, the
vacuum pump cannot lose power, otherwise the lubricating oil within the vacuum pump will be sucked into the system.
2. The air displacement of the vacuum pump must not be smaller than 40L/M. before the operation, the vacuum meter must
be checked out to ensure that its measurement range can reach -755mmHg.
3. An electronic check valve is needed for the vacuum pump to avoid oil return to the pump.
6
Pioneer Digital Scroll VRF Systems
7.6. ADDITIOANL REFRIGERANT CHARGING
The amount of the refrigerant supplemented to each system should be calculated while make engineering drawings. The
construction unit should add the refrigerant as per the said amount. When there are several systems, please mark the
individual refrigerant amount of each system, to avoid the confusion of the complemented refrigerant among all systems.
PRECAUTIONS:
1. The calculated results must be recorded (work out a table).
2. When the outdoor unit is delivered from the factory, the filled refrigerant amount should be 10m. When the distance
between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit exceeds 10m, the complementary refrigerant should be filled as per the
diameter and length of the liquid tube.
3. After the drying operation of the liquid tube has been completed, fill the liquid refrigerant from the shutoff valve at the side
of the liquid tube. After the vacuum pumping, the junction valve cannot be changed before the refrigerant is filled, for the
replacement may bring air into the system.
4. When the refrigerant cannot be filled in completely, the operation of the compressor should be used during the trial
operation to charge the liquid refrigerant from the air tube; the air valve and liquid valve should be opened before the
startup.
5. The filling amount of the refrigerant must be measured with an electronic scale and a person should be assigned to
supervise the charging of the refrigerant, for fear of over charging

Part 11. Simple Centralized Controller
11.1. OUTLINE
11.1.1. MAIN FUNCTIONS
The main function of the centralized controller is to control
all indoor units in the system by dividing the system into
several zones. It can manually or automatically on/off indoor
units respectively according to each zone setting or
schedule, also can inquire system running status, fault
records and so on.
1. System Definition: The system here means one refrigeration system, including a number of indoor units and outdoor
units, which were connected by piping system. One system can only connect up to 3 outdoor units in parallel, and each
outdoor unit can only connect up to 16 indoor units. So that, the whole system can totally connects up to 48 indoor units.
2. Wire controller can connect one indoor unit or connect up to 4 indoor units. In other words, one wire controller can control
one or several indoor units, but at most 4 indoor units.
3. One system can only connect one centralized controller. The centralized controller is not allowed to connect with different
system.
4. Zone Definition: The centralized controller can at most divide into 4 zones for easy control.
5. Group definition: The zone is formed by the Groups. One Group could be one indoor unit which is connected by one wire
controller or have not connected by any wire controller. In this situation, the Group No. is the indoor address assigned by
the outdoor. Also, one Group could be one wire controller connect more than one indoor unit (max.4), the group No. is
the minimum address of these indoor units.
6. Relationship between Group and Zone, One centralized controller can connect up to 48 groups at most, and 48 groups
can divide into 1, 2, 3 or 4 zones according to user demand.
7. Indoor Address: When all indoor and outdoor units are right connected, and passed the address assignment process. All
indoor units will have an address No. assigned by outdoor control board automatically.
• Wiring connection: As showed in above network figure, Centralized Controller should be connected with communication
network between the outdoor units.

No. Guidelines
Must reset the zone and timed setting before using when the centralized controller fist time connected to the
1
system or once replacement
2 The underlying level operation of the centralized controller is zone operation, and it can be dived into 4 zones.
3 The control rule among the centralized controller and local wire controllers is: the last command is effective
If the current zone controller is on setting mode, the confirmed setting will be carried out to all indoor units in
4
current zone immediately
If the current setting zone is in off mode, all settings (expect ALL ON/OFF button, RUNNING button, stop button)
5 will only be saved in the centralized controller, will not be carried out, but it will be performed when starting next
time.
The system can only run in one mode at the same time, heating and cooling (include dry) can be set in same time.
The first setting mode will be locked in the outdoor unit, when other mode is set, the system cannot accept and
6 conflict error will be displayed on the wire controller screen. When all indoor unit modes are changed, the system
mode will switch into the new setting mode. But fan mode will not be involved in the mode conflict; it can be set in
any time.
