Chiller/Heat Pump
Modular CXAU VFD
Junio de 2023
Que es un sistema modular?
Módulo Segmento individual de
refrigeración y sus accesorios.
Capacidad de operar con otros
como una sola entidad.
Banco Uno o más módulos.
Modular
Posibilidad de configuración en
campo.
Un solo control.

Why Modular?
Redundancy
Installation Accessibility
Future Add On Capability
Serviceability
Application Flexibility
4
Redundancy
Eliminating Single Points of Failure
Chiller Redundancy
• Multiple Circuits
• CBs/Transducers/Sensors
System Redundancy
• Flow Switches per Module
• Strainers per Module
5
Installation
Accessibility
Replacement Markets
• Fits Through Doorway
• Elevators
• No Crane Needed
• No Street Shutdowns
• Historical Buildings
• Meet ASHRAE 15 Code
Unique Install Challenges
• Beams in Mech Rooms
• Limited Roof Space
6
Future Add On Capability
HVAC Systems are notoriously oversized. Only sell what is needed
now with the flexibility to add on in the future!
• Budgetary planning
• Meet Building Stages
• Change of Building Use/Capacity
• Guarantees you a future sale
7
Serviceability
• Serviceability in Design
• Cleanable Filters per Module STANDARD
• Easy Maintenance
• Small parts are easier for service
personnel
• Schedule service – not an emergency
• Spare Parts
• Stockable Sizes
• Affordable to Stock

STRAINER CLEANING
What is it? Trane Strainer Cleaning
• Method of removing debris from
the fluid loop to protect the heat
exchanger
Trane Advantage
• Modules can be shut down and
serviced while the chiller system
continues to operate. Competitor – Strainer Cleaning
• Independent service isolation
valves from the headers
• No system down time.
9
Variable Flow with Modular Chillers
• All Modules are in
Parallel
• Equal pressure drop
distributes water
evenly across modules
• Chiller output is a
mixed water result of
the cooling done by
each individual module
10
Variable Flow with Modular Chillers
Motorized Valves are required
on a variable flow system to
prevent bypassed flow through
an off module. These are
actuated butterfly valves
installed on the heat exchanger
of each module.
Flow changes by output and/or
dp across the chiller bank.
11
Variable Flow with Modular Chillers
Pump Control for Modular
Chillers is extremely important.
What is ensuring the chiller gets
the correct amount of flow?
- Operating output from chiller controller
- Control to DP across the chiller
- Implement BAS logic to control to the larger
of the two

Installation - Variable Water Flow Control
• If variable water pump is equipped, needs to control the variable water flow rate.
• install the water solenoid valve only for the slave units and connect it to the SV2
point in OUT6. No water 2-way valve is needed for the host unit.
• A differential pressure bypass valve should be installed in the main water pipeline
• The frequency could be controlled according to the number of units, water
pressure drop, etc. And the switch of the variable water pump needs to be
connected to the MP point in OUT1 of the host unit control board (passive).
26
Installation - Filters
• CXAU130 equipped with stainless steel • CXAU065 equipped drum-type Y filter
filter. • Filter should be installed according to the
• Disassembly the panel label indicting inlet and outlet.
• Disassembly the panel
