ACTIVITY

1. Identify and discuss all corporate social responsibility programs available of the
following corporations:

a. National Book Store

National Book Store owners understand their social responsibility and


established the National Book Store Foundation, Inc. in 2004, intending to give back to
the community. As helping underprivileged children is part of the company’s core
values, this organization is responsible for making its vision a reality. Through various
projects focused on education empowerment, National Book Store Foundation, Inc.
strives to uplift the lives of underprivileged children across the Philippines.

Over the past decade, National Book Store, the Philippines’ largest books and
supplies store, has not only been providing consumers with school supplies, art
materials, office supplies and books, it has also been busy helping the community
through the National Book Store Foundation, which aims to uplift the lives of
underprivileged children through education empowerment.

Therefore, here are some of the projects the organization has completed to
date.

1. Project Aral

It is National Book Store’s annual school supplies drive for kids in public
schools and provinces. Customers can help by purchasing a P25 supplies kit at
any National Book Store branch until June 30. An initiative to distribute school
materials to the country’s most impoverished areas.

Part of its many programs that promote education not only in Metro
Manila but also in the provinces is Project Aral, National Book Store’s annual
back-to-school campaign through which the organization delivers basic school
supplies to students in public schools. The National Book Store encourages
patrons to donate study kits for P25.

The project started in 2009, after a trip to a tribal community in


Antique, where the Foundation has been doing literacy efforts and book grants.
During their stay there, they realized that, while they had all the books they
needed, they didn’t have a single sharpener — and so they began the drive to
send school supplies to the province. “Since a lot of patrons were asking how
they can help, we thought of coming up with a simple, direct way to do it, and
that is through Project Aral,” says Xandra Ramos-Padilla, managing director of
National Book Store.

Project Aral has raised more than a million study kits and they give two
kits per child at the start of the school year. It has helped in getting closer to
National Book Store’s goal of promoting education by motivating children to go
to school — because now they have the supplies they need to accomplish their
tasks.

Hence, Project Aral runs until June 30 of this year and anyone can help
these kids by simply donating a P25 pack.

2. Project Aklat Book Drive

Annual Christmas books drive implemented in all National Book Store


branches. A program where NBS patrons purchase and donate good-quality
reading materials to schools across the nation.The project aims to encourage
NBS patrons to purchase and donate cheap but good quality reading materials
for distribution to schools nationwide.

National Book Store is foregoing its usual Christmas campaigns in favor


of Project Aklat, a book drive that encourages loyal patrons of National Book
Store to buy and donate books for as low as P30. In addition, for the first time in
over 65 years, National Book Store is getting an endorser. Dingdong Dantes will
be the spokesperson for the project which will focus on giving back to the
community, getting damaged libraries rebuilt and giving the Filipino youth a
chance to get an education.

Trina Alindogan, chairman of the National Book Store Foundation,


points out that, “It was really a perfect match between National Book Store and
Dingdong. Both our foundation and Dingdong’s Yes Pinoy Foundation support
education for the youth. And in this case, our working together is really a case of
the sum of the parts creating a bigger whole.”

Hence, National Book Store’s Project Aklat runs until Dec. 31 and books
for as low as P30 may be purchased and donated at all National Book Store
branches nationwide.

3. Dry Library: Mitch Albom- NBSFI Project

A project to construct ten dome libraries for schools affected by


typhoon Yolanda in Tacloban. Also, a partnership project between NBSFI and A
Hole in the Roof presented by bestselling author Mitch Albom to construct ten
dome libraries for the affected schools in Tacloban after typhoon Yolanda.
Popular authors from JK Rowling to Jeff Kinnley donated books with their
signatures. The last of the ten libraries will soon be up by mid 2018.

Albom’s partner in this undertaking is National Book Store Foundation,


Inc. (NBSFI), the retailing giant’s charity arm, which pledged to match Albom’s
raised funds on a per-dollar basis. Together with Albom’s Hole in the Roof
Foundation, NBSFI set out to construct a unique kind of library.

The first of 10 libraries would be built in Palo, to be used by the


students of Pawing Elementary School. To ensure it would not be destroyed by
future storms, radical methods were used in its construction. Because experts
said a dome provided the best protection, the library would boast a unique
twin-dome design, which also maximizes the space inside.

Then, the students walked through the entrance of the DRY Library,
chose books, sat down and began reading. With the first library open, NBSFI
plans to finish building the remaining nine by 2016 in Ormoc, Eastern Samar,
and Iloilo.

A light shower fell on the distinctive domes of the first DRY Library,
which would now be open for students of Pawing to discover the stories waiting
on its shelves. At day’s end, the schoolchildren, happily bearing their new bags,
walked off amid the steady drizzle, hopeful and utterly unafraid of a little rain.

4. Read Out Loud Challenge

A social drive to spread the love of reading by participating in the


challenge and helping set up libraries nationwide. part of National Book Store’s
75th Anniversary celebration, NBS is proud to launch the Read Out Loud
Challenge A(ROLC) to further promote the love for reading throughout the
country.

ROLC campaign invites all readers to support the advocacy.To join the
challenge, each participant will be requested to upload their own ROLC video on
their Facebook or Instagram account.

For every 75 videos uploaded, NBS Foundation will set up 1 school


library until we reach 7,500 videos. These libraries can be an instrument in
providing hundreds of opportunities for learning as well as fostering literacy to
Filipino children in various communities nationwide.

By participating, you can help spread the love for reading to everyone
you know, igniting and building a stronger reading culture.

b. Mercury Drug- Mary & Shang


Mercury Drug engages in corporate social responsibility programs, through Mercury
Drug Foundation, as a way of giving back to the people for their loyal support through
the years. At the very core of this effort lies a strong sense of compassion inspired by
the commitment to make a meaningful difference, beyond pharmaceutical retailing, in
the communities where Mercury Drug operates. By undertaking sustainability social
responsibility programs focused on health and education, the company hopes to help
build a healthy, educated and productive nation while remaining true to the spirit of
service that has given birth to Mercury Drug.
Mercury Drug Foundation, Inc. was registered with the SEC as a non-stock, non-profit
corporation on March 25, 1983 by Mr. Mariano Que and the late Mr. Mariano Yu and
the top management personnel of the companies under the Mercury Group. Originally
named Mercury Group Foundation, Inc., it was established to contribute their share in
raising the standard of living of the Filipino people and in enhancing their cultural and
social values. In 1990, the Foundation changed its name to Mercury Drug Foundation,
Inc. It is an operating corporate Foundation. Its main office is located at Mercury
Avenue, Bagumbayan, Quezon City. The foundation has 3 regular staff, 3 part-time
seconded staff, and 9 members of the Board of Trustees.

Its purposes (V-M-G), among others, are “to be a pillar in building a healthy, educated
and productive nation; to contribute to the reduction in the incidence of diseases; to
promote health and well-being of Filipinos; to contribute in building pharmacy
profession and to help in the recovery from calamities”.

In 1983 to 2011, the Foundation focused on programs benefiting Mercury drug


employees and its affiliate companies. It also helped in Mercury Drug’s CSR initiatives
like Operation Bigay Lunas, Potable Water System Program and Disaster Relief
Assistance.

In 2012, The Foundation realigned its programs to provide focus and concentrate its
efforts on national concerns. Projects benefiting employees of Mercury Drug and
affiliate companies were turned over to Mercury Drug and Mercury Group of
Companies.

Mercury Drug gives out free medicines and medical services to underserved barangays
in the Philippines. The program was first conducted in 1999, since then, it has been
done by the company year-round with the help of local government units and other
healthcare volunteers and professionals. They aspire to make healthcare closer and
accessible to needy Filipinopeople. Aside from the free medicines and medical
services,they also establish disease prevalence in the communities and provide them
with actionable healthcare data. The Foundation implements its program nationwide.

The Foundation now focuses on the following programs:

HEALTH

1. Operation Bigay Lunas


Operation Bigay Lunas (OBL) provides free medicines and medical
services to underserved communities throughout the Philippines. Started in
1999, OBL is conducted year-round, in collaboration with local government units
and with the support of volunteer healthcare and other professionals.

The strong support of the pharmaceutical industry, donors, volunteer


healthcare professionals and other volunteers, and their joint aspiration to bring
healthcare closer and more accessible to the people have contributed to the
successful conduct of OBL through the years.

Apart from direct assistance with free medicines and medical


consultations, OBL also helps establish disease prevalence in the communities
served, with actionable healthcare data provided, where applicable, for follow-
thru action.

OBL also provides medicines to non-profit organizations, educational


institutions, civic-social organizations, professional associations, student
organizations and government organizations that conduct medical or dental
missions to serve marginalized communities or needy groups.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is one of the beneficiaries of


OBL, through OBL’s Libreng Gamot para sa Kawal initiative, in recognition of the
heroic dedication and commitment of military personnel to the country’s safety
and protection. Free medicines and medical supplies are provided to AFP’s
military treatment facilities nationwide to ensure that soldiers get the proper
healthcare assistance wherever they are deployed.

2. Operation Pa-Tubig

Operation Pa-Tubig provides safe and easy access to clean potable


water in waterless communities. Done in partnership with Philippine Business
for Social Progress (PBSP), this program helps improve health and sanitation,
and uplifts living conditions and quality of life in these communities.
With easy access to safe potable water, benefited communities are able
to meet all their water needs for drinking, personal care and household use. The
safety of young children, who are often tasked to do the fetching of water from
distant unsafe sources, is also ensured; while time previously spent for fetching
water is more efficiently used for more important family and education
concerns.

Beneficiary communities are engaged in the management of the


project, by mobilization of a team that will see through the maintenance and
sustainability of the water system. Training of the community organization,
capacitation in the management and maintenance of the water system, and
engagement of all stakeholders is undertaken by PBSP.

Started in 2001, Operation Pa-Tubig has benefited several communities


throughout the country. With continuing efforts to identify and help waterless
communities in the country, Operation Pa-Tubig will see through enabling more
people to have access to safe potable water.

BANTAY KALUSUGAN

This program is a preventive healthcare program, encompassing four signature


activities:

1. Bantay Kalusugan Alamin at Sugpuin

This program promotes the early detection of chronic non-


communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity,and high
cholesterol level through free health screening,medical counseling, and
educational health lectures in urban poor communities.

2. KidSigla
The program aims to reduce the malnutrition cases of children in the
country. Feeding modules dedicated for undernourished children are
distributed and accomplished in selected communities for six months. Parents
are being engaged in food preparation and the children are monitored for their
improved weight changes.

3. Bantay Kalusugan Smart Parenting

This program wants to educate women in marginalized communities


about responsible parenthood, women’s health and hygiene, and children in
order to reduce the cases of childbirth and maternal mortality.

4. Help Stop NCD

This CSR activity promotes walking and running as a preventive


approach to non-communicable diseases. Participants collectively learn and do
exercises.

EDUCATION

A. Scholarship Program
1. MDFI Scholarship
This program awards full scholarships to

a. deserving but financially challenged students of pharmacy. Students of


other selected courses and dependents of soldiers who are in active
service, incapacitated or have died in the line of duty, may be considered.
b. Gawad Talino awardees recognized for their academic excellence in
Mathematics or Science.

By fostering the tertiary education of these students, MDFI hopes


to inspire and encourage them to maximize their potential and aspire to
become leaders in the next generation.

2. Pharmacy Scholarship

This program aims to alleviate the low number of pharmacists in the


country. It helps financially-challenged pharmacy students enrolled in the
member schools of the PhilippineAssociation of Colleges of Pharmacy (PACOP)
by covering their tuition and miscellaneous fees, and food and transportation
expenses.

B. Gawad Talino Program

This program is an academic recognition program – it awards


graduating senior high school students who excel in Mathematics and
Science.

The awards consist of

a. medals and certificates of recognition, given during their graduation from


senior high school
b. scholarship grants to qualified awardees

By honoring these students, the program hopes to inspire and encourage


them to maximize their potential, to pursue higher levels of education, and to
aspire to become leaders in the next generation.

Selection of recipients of Gawad Talino Excellence Award is conducted by


the member schools through an awards committee which will screen candidates
based on academic performance, moral character and integrity.

Schools must register for inclusion in this program. Only those schools
accredited by the Department of Education and have the license to operate as a
senior high school can register.

C. Sagip Talento Program

This supports the biennial search of the Philippine Center for Gifted
Education, Inc. (PCGE) for gifted Filipino children and youth. Named "Mga
Bagong Rizal – Pag-asa ng Bayan" after the Philippines' national hero, Dr. Jose P.
Rizal, the awardees pledge to model their lives after the principles espoused by
Dr. Rizal, namely love for God and country, integrity, valor and excellence in
their respective areas of ability, interest and talent. By identifying these children
and youth and giving them due recognition, MDFI hopes to motivate them to
continuously improve and commit themselves to become the new generation of
country’s leaders in the future.

D. Share Joy Program

MDFI helps enrich the lives of underprivileged and orphaned children


through this program by providing opportunities for them to experience
educational entertainment in play cities, museums and theme parks.
Beneficiaries are selected from public schools, orphanages and temporary
shelters.

E. School Assistance Program

MDFI assists public schools with quick response kits, personal hygiene or
protective items to help ensure the safety and immediate care of children, as
well as teaching and non-teaching staff in schools. This initiative supports the
Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program of preparing school
facilities for the opening of classes.

DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

MDFI provides immediate disaster relief, in the form of medicines, personal protective
or hygiene items, or food packs, to help victims of calamities or conflicts in their
recovery and to reduce the risk of diseases. By actively supporting government
rehabilitation programs in critical areas, MDFI helps rebuild lives and assists in the
much-needed recovery of affected families.

OTHERS:
1. Nutrisyon at Kalinisan para sa Maayos na Kinabukasan
In partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter and
Department ofEducation Division of Laguna, advocates to educate children on
healthy eating habits and proper way of handwashing. This year, the CSR activity
was conducted at San PedroCentral School.

2. Annual Tree Planting


Fifty Gardenia employees helped in planting 2,000 guyabano and narra
tree seedlings inBrgy. Cansuso, Cavinti, Laguna. This is the company’s way to
give back to the community and the environment. Aside from the annual tree
planting, Gardenia has been also active in tree-caring programs.

3. Nutrition Assistance Program


This CSR program aims to reduce the problems of elementary school
children who come to school without having breakfast. They conduct lectures
on the importance of eating a well-balanced meal. The program includes
feeding programs and a three-month breadsupply to selected pupils.

c. Guess Philippines (California Clothing, Inc.)

The business has grown over the years by using its solid core principles to introduce
fresh concepts and brands. As an illustration, the Marciano brand for fashion-forward
men and women was introduced in 2004. After that decade, GUESS introduced several
labels, including GUESS Originals and GUESS GUESS Vintage and Jeans USA are brands
that draw inspiration from the brand's history but update it for today's youth. Most
recently, GUESS in 2020 GUESS Activewear was released, featuring a high-performance,
comfortable, and trendy athleisure look.

Their sustainability strategy was developed by taking into account the concerns of our
many stakeholders, the elements promoting our company's sustainable growth, and a
number of sustainability reporting and disclosure platforms. The Global Reporting
Initiative (GRI) Standards, SASB Apparel, Accessories & Footwear Sustainability
Accounting Standard, and SASB Multiline and Specialty Retailers & Distributors
Sustainability Accounting Standard are a few examples of these. In creating our
sustainability plan, we also took into account the UN Sustainable Development Goals
(UN SDGs), which are mentioned in this report. Their environmental, social, and
governance disclosures are guided by these platforms in the same way that their overall
sustainability strategy is.

VISION GUESS – The New Sustainability Plan

Vision Guess will advance its journey over the next ten years with even more
ambitious commitments and objectives in order to become a company and brand that
integrates sustainability into its operations and value chain, promotes diversity and
inclusivity as a value and culture within its global workforce and supply chain, and
produces

clothing that supports a climate-positive, circular economy. This will give an overview of
how the company's current sustainability efforts will be continued under the new
strategy throughout this report in Operating with Integrity, Empowering Our People,
and Protecting Our Environment. By building on our successes from the previous five
years, we hope to create a better future for their stakeholders, their business, and the
apparel industry.

Community Giving: An Overview

The GUESS Foundation has been working to promote social, health, and educational
possibilities that advance the welfare of men, women, and children in our common
global environment for almost 27 years. The Foundation is strongly ingrained in their
business and culture because we support organizations and initiatives that promote
equality, opportunity, and constructive social change. The GUESS Foundation gave more
than $1.5 million to more than 15 non-profit organizations in North America and Europe
during FY2020–2021. Among them are UNICEF, DirectRelief, Carousel of Hope, The
World Stage, and the LA Regional Foodbank, to name just a few. The Foundation assists
organizations in Europe. Organizations that support women who have experienced
domestic violence, including Fundación Ana Bella in Spain and D.i.Re in Italy.

GUESS Cares is the organizing platform for their associate volunteer program. The
platform was established in 1996 in the United States and Canada to give their
employees a chance to give back, GUESS Cares coordinates volunteering activities in the
local communities where they live and work, usually one activity each month, including
hands-on volunteering, fundraising, and collecting and distributing goods to people in
need. Volunteering activities vary by location, but always reflect the diversity of
important issues our team members care about and give them a chance to build
stronger connections with each other and with the greater community.

Under this section, the brand anticipates utilizing GUESS Cares to offer more volunteer
support that aids in the recovery and rebuilding of communities and businesses. This
will probably involve community outreach to help those in the area who have been
severely affected by the epidemic with housing, food, childcare, and other necessities.

FY2020 – 2021 Achievements

$1.5M+ donated by GUESS Foundation 20 volunteering events, drives, and fundraisers.


Over 3,000 items (backpacks, care packages, diapers, toys, and socks) were donated by
GUESS Cares employees and corporate giving programs.

Pandemic Relief Donations

GUESS and the GUESS Foundation started a number of pandemic relief initiatives in
2020. They collaborated with groups to provide money, clothing, and personal
protective equipment, including 150,000 masks in Italy and Spain, which were
particularly hard-hit in the early months of the pandemic. This comprised a donation of
more than $1.3 million, 45,000 items of clothing, blankets, and coloring books, in
addition to other items. Additionally, during the COVID-19 crisis, they inspired the public
to take significant action by hosting a blood drive at our Los Angeles campus and
promoting blood donation through our communications channels. Moreover, they also
gave clothing contributions and collaborated with the University of California, Los
Angeles on blood drive education and awareness campaigns at our global offices during
2020.

Highlights from FY2020 – 2021 includes:

● Basket Brigade

Conducted yearly all across the U.S. Thanksgiving is a time when Guess U.S. employees
support the Violence Intervention Program for vulnerable families and kids. At our Los
Angeles headquarters, employees shop for a family's groceries before using their artistic
skills to make lovely gift baskets for clients. The families who received the top three
baskets received prizes and Thanksgiving feasts complete with all the fixings.

● Little Miss Flint

GUESS Cares gave Flint, Michigan access to safe drinking water in honor of World
Water Day. Reusable water bottle sales and a raffle were used to earn money. All money
raised went to Little Miss Flint and Pack Your Back, two organizations that help teachers
and students in need by giving them materials.

● Toy Drive

Each year, Guess U.S. employees donate gifts and gift cards to brighten the holidays
for the foster children serviced by the Los Angeles Children's Bureau.

● Pride Bingo

This extravagant event, which was started in 2020 to help the Trevor Project, uses
bingo to collect money, with prizes sponsored by Guess U.S. The Trevor Project, whose
goal is to prevent young people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender,
queer, or questioning from taking their own lives, receives 100% of the funds raised.

● Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation Competition

During the summer internship program at Guess U.S., interns engage in friendly
competition as they bake and sell inventive treats to our coworkers on campus, with all
revenues going to Alex's Lemonade. The group wants to improve the lives of kids who
have cancer.

Toward Circular Fashion


A product is frequently thrown away when it is no longer wanted or functional. The
commercial case for circularity is also evident within their own company, as the
materials utilized in their supply chain account for the majority of their environmental
impact. The company’s carbon footprint is decreased by using a circular strategy that
maintains resources in use and sourcing more environmentally friendly materials. They
can assist their our sector in moving away from the present linear model and toward a
circular one where value is maximized throughout the apparel lifespan by investing in,
implementing, sharing, and scaling circular business concepts. Through its cooperation
with a textile recycling and reuse company and its customer take-back program, GUESS
rescued 31,374 and 27,670 kgs from landfill in FY2020 and FY2021, respectively.

The Growing Take-Back Program, RESOURCED

Their program encourages customers to bring in their unwanted clothing and shoes—
from any brand—to any GUESS store in the U.S. for recycling. Their signature take-back
program, known as RESOURCED, allows for garment and shoe recycling through our
continued partnership with I:Collect (I:CO®). They can efficiently sort, reuse, and recycle
the clothing and footwear they gather thanks to this creative cooperation, which
supports their commitment to circular fashion. The program is currently accessible at all
retailers in the United States. The epidemic has caused them to postpone plans to
introduce RESOURCED to their European outlets in 2020. One way we support the 2020
Circular Fashion System Commitment of our Global Fashion Agenda is by sustaining and
growing our product take-back program.

d. Cebu Pacific- Richelle

As CEB continues to grow with more aircraft in its fleet, and more destinations and
routes in its network, it is imperative to integrate sustainable business practices in core
operations, keeping in mind the welfare and well-being of staff, the environment and
the communities served.

1. Juan Effect
Cebu Pacific teams up with the Philippine Department of Tourism to launch Juan
Effect, a sustainable tourism program, aimed at engaging travelers and local
stakeholders alike, to mitigate the impact of tourist arrivals on the environment.

On a national level, Juan Effect aims to encourage responsible travel among


passengers, and empower everyone to change at least one everyday habit. On a
local level, Juan Effect will collaborate with island stakeholders to concerted
action for the conservation of the environment.

"As Cebu Pacific aims to fly 22 million passengers in 2018, we recognize


sustainable tourism as a key priority for the airline. The Juan Effect program is a
call for all stakeholders to come together, collaborate and cooperate towards
concerted efforts, to ensure that the tourism industry progresses sustainably,"
said Lance Gokongwei, President and CEO of Cebu Pacific. During the Juan Effect
launch, Gokongwei also announced Cebu Pacific will replace non-recyclable
plastic spoons, forks, stirrers and cups with sustainable alternatives on all its
domestic and international flights starting October 1, 2018.

The shift to eco-friendly utensils for inflight meals and refreshments is part of
initiatives by the airline to push for sustainability and reduction of inflight waste.
It will also cover flights mounted by subsidiary Cebgo.On the average, the Cebu
Pacific group mounts about 400 flights daily across 37 domestic and 26
international destinations. Those flights use approximately 18,500 pieces of
plastic spoons and forks, plastic cups, and plastic stirrers daily. The change to
eco-friendly utensils for inflight catering is just the latest in environmental
initiatives that Cebu Pacific is integrating into its operations and core strategy.

2. Bright Skies for Every Juan


The widespread effects of climate change are already being felt, and nowhere
are these more evident than in countries such as the Philippines with its many
coastal areas. Responding to the environmental needs of such places is the
Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF-Philippines). But such groups, big as they are,
still need much help not just from corporate supporters, but from concerned
individuals as well.

The Bright Skies for Every Juan program encourages travelers to help fund
climate change solutions through donations they can make while booking their
flights online. Through this, the program also helps educate travelers about
their individual responsibility for their own carbon emissions. All donations
made to Bright Skies currently go to the Climate Change Adaptation Program in
the Sablayan community in Occidental Mindoro and to the nearby Apo Reef
Natural Park, the world’s largest atoll reef after the Great Barrier Reef. In
general, these funds help protect dive and fishing spots, promote sustainable
fish production, and educate residents about climate change and its effects.
With more donations, the project in Sablayan can expand to help other
communities.

3. BayaniJUAN: Cebu Pacific airlift support for Covid-10 Response Support

Over the past several years, the need for humanitarian aid has dramatically
increased on the back of major natural disasters, conflict or biohazards such as
the spread of the Novel Coronavirus. Aviation plays a critical role in the fast and
reliable movement of humanitarian assistance such as food and medical
supplies, especially when time is of the essence.

Amidst travel restrictions that came with the imposition of Community


Quarantine across Luzon and many other provinces across the Philippines, Cebu
Pacific (CEB) has continued to operate all-cargo flights to ensure that food,
medicines and vital supplies are transported from one island to another across
the archipelago. Throughout the quarantine period, Cebu Pacific has been in
constant coordination with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and other
government agencies for cargo transport—especially those that are intended
for humanitarian aid.

So far, CEB has operated almost 170 cargo flights between Manila, Bacolod,
Cebu, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Iloilo, Tuguegarao, and Davao
using its fleet of Airbus jets and ATR turbo-prop aircraft. It is the only carrier in
the Philippines with a dedicated ATR Freighter, capable of carrying as much as
seven tons of cargo in one uplift.

CEB’s cargo services include airlift support for local governments, humanitarian
and aid organizations as well as other entities who are sending much-needed
Personal Protective Equipment and medical supplies to help health workers and
front liners in the provinces.

As of end-April 2020, CEB has carried 34 tons of humanitarian aid, amounting to


P1.9 million. To date, CEB has provided airlift support for humanitarian aid sent
through Vice President Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay Program, the Department of
Health, the Philippine Red Cross, the Philippine Army and the TOWNS
Foundation, among others.

4. Cebu Pacific and UNICEF renew Change for Good Partnership

Cebu Pacific (PSE:CEB), the Philippines' leading airline, and the United Nations
Children's Fund (UNICEF) renewed their partnership for the Change for Good
program. CEB is the first airline partner of UNICEF for Change for Good in
Southeast Asia and the only partner in the Philippines. To date, CEB is also the
only local airline partner who raises funds to benefit children in its home
country.

To signify the partnership renewal, UNICEF Advocate for Children Anne Curtis
surprised passengers on a Cebu Pacific flight from Cagayan de Oro to Manila
when she collected donations for UNICEF's Change for Good program.

Launched in 2016 with Cebu Pacific, the Change for Good program is an
innovative global partnership between UNICEF and the international airline
industry. The alliance is designed to collect spare currency from passengers and
convert these into life-saving materials and services for vulnerable children
around the world. Since its launch in 1987, it has generated over US$160 Million
for children in need.

5. Lakbay Aral

On March 23, 2019, 75 grade school students from the Numancia Central
Elementary School took part in a “Lakbay Aral” activity, a field trip to the Sayak
Airport in Siargao, where they boarded a Cebu Pacific plane and learned about
the basics of flying, flight safety, and possible careers in the airline industry.

As children from underprivileged backgrounds, it was the first time they had set
foot inside an airplane. Onboard the aircraft, the children were guided by the
Cebu Pacific crew composed of Capt. Abraham Bernal, First Officer Yvan Mikael
Salazar, and flight attendants Sunshine Escat and Kiel Vitasa. Besides learning
about the airline industry, the children were also taught about Cebu Pacific’s
award-winning Juan Effect campaign. The long-term CSR project focusing on
sustainable and environment-friendly tourism is a multi-sectoral advocacy in
partnership with the Philippine Department of Tourism, supported by the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources and Department of Interior
and Local Government.

6. Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan

In line with its commitment to serve every Juan, Cebu Pacific has partnered with
GMA Kapuso Foundation’s Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (UHSK) for the third
consecutive year. GMA Kapuso Foundation’s UHSK project provides backpacks
with a complete set of school supplies to incoming Grade 1 pupils in remote and
far-flung areas all over the Philippines, just in time for the start of the school
year. GMA Kapuso Foundation continues its mission, this time with a
partnership with Cebu Pacific (CEB).

Since 2010, Cebu Pacific has been assisting the Kapuso Foundation in reaching
out to thousands of underprivileged school children by providing free cargo
service to transport school supplies nationwide.

This year, Cebu Pacific has transported over 8,000 kilos worth of school supplies
from Manila to Tacloban and Zamboanga. The airline also provided tickets for
the GMA Kapuso Foundation teams to reach places like Surigao del Sur,
Cotabato, General Santos, Samar, Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga del
Norte and Tawi-Tawi.

Aside from Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan, Cebu Pacific has been GMA Kapuso
Foundation’s partner in fulfilling its advocacy of reaching out to Filipino
communities. The airline provides free cargo services for the foundation’s
projects including Give-A-Gift during Christmas, medical missions and relief
operations in times of natural calamities.

HEALTH

1. Medical-Surgical Outreach Program (MSOP)


From 1992 to 2016, TMPF was able to provide medical assistance to the residents from the cities of
Paranaque, Taguig and Santa Rosa through the Medical-Dental Outreach Program (MDOP). In 2018,
having observed that the local government units (LGUs) are already capable in providing medical and
dental healthcare to its constituents, TMPF, in partnership with Makati Medical Center (MMC), changed
its focus from providing medical to surgical services. Hence, the Medical-Surgical Outreach Program or
MSOP was launched. Under the MSOP, free and immediate relief for urgent health concerns which
require surgery are provided. Cases with fast recovery time such as (but not limited to)
Cholecystolithiasis, Hernia and Goiter are evaluated before the procedures are done.

scholarship programs and engine simulator donations.

thermal scanners, face shields, alcohol, antibacterial and germicidal soaps, disinfectant sprays, bleach

Despite the economic challenges brought about by the pandemic, which forced many organizations to
refocus their strategies toward survival, TMP continued with its CSR initiatives for the environment. TMP
partnered with the University of the Philippines (UPMSI) and the Department of Environment and
Natural Resources (DENR) to create an educational exhibit and training center for the Verde Island
Passage. Based on their 2022 Report, TMPF donated Php100,000 to UPMSI as part of its Php2.9 Million
commitment for the construction of the Educational Exhibit Training Center at UP Puerto Galera
Biodiversity and Environmental Research and Outreach Center in Oriental Mindoro. TMPF signed the
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UPMSI in 2020.

They also made an agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and
the local government of Lian, Batangas to clean-up, rehabilitate, and preserve a ten-hectare mangrove
plantation area. The nationwide project was entitled “Start Your Impossible: National Mangrove-
Planting and Coastal Clean-Up Activity,” to promote environmental awareness and plant 200 seedlings
at the Toyota Forest. As well as other extra- curricular events supporting environmental courses.

During the first month of the year 2020, the country witnessed the eruption of Taal Volcano, which not
only caused the closure of businesses in the vicinity, but also forced hundreds of families to evacuate to
safer grounds. As a Disaster Response, TMP swiftly took action and pledged Php2 million as aid for
evacuees in regional relief centers in Batangas and Laguna. The company announced the donation
during its annual media thanksgiving event, which was scaled down to allow TMP to reallocate resources
for the victims of the eruption.

As well as during the Covid- 19 pandemic, TMPF provided also humanitarian assistance to its nearby
communities through the provision of rice and groceries during the Modified Enhanced Community
Quarantine (MECQ) in 2021.
Furthermore, as a result of the pandemic, TMP focused its community service initiatives on how to
make the health and economic situation more tolerable for the communities it serves. “Libreng Sakay
para sa mga Healthworkers at Kaagapay” initiative was formed to help health care workers travel to and
from their places of work, TMP mobilized company-owned vehicles and lent some units to volunteer
groups. It donated 30 Vios units to public hospitals and 43,000 face masks to supported communities.
TMP also updated its digital platforms to make information readily available online. As well as, it
partnered with the Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF) to provide sanitized, just-in-time transportation
services for the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). TMPF also provided in-kind donations to health care
workers and families that needed support. Toyota Financial Services Philippines (TFS) extended payment
terms, extended expiring insurance policies, and provided a 30-day grace period for Toyota vehicles.
Also, at the Toyota- City of Santa Rosa- Gawad Kalinga Village, residents are continuously supported by
TMPF through livelihood and value formation activities.

Moreover, with the continuous CSR initiatives or humanitarian efforts of the TMP to achieve a better
world and a better future for Filipino people, it bagged awards. In 2020, TMP received awards for their
outstanding CSR programs from the Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists during the 4th Driven to
Serve Awards ceremony. At the virtual event, TMP garnered two Gold Awards, one for its Vegetable
Garden Project at PSCES, and another for the nationwide Start Your Impossible: National Mangrove-
Planting and Coastal Clean-Up Activity, which engaged TMP employees and Toyota dealers across the
country. The automaker also received a Silver Award for its Breast Cancer Awareness Project for the
female faculty and staff of its adopted school.

In addition, according to their 2022 Report, TMPF received a Plaque of Appreciation from the DepEd
during the Virtual Partners’ Appreciation program via Facebook Live. The award was given to TMPF for
its continued support to basic education, especially the implementation of the Basic Learning Continuity
Plan (BE-LCP). And the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), a network of operating and grant-
making corporate foundations and corporations that promotes and enhances the strategic practice of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) among its members, awarded a plaque of appreciation to TMPF
for its 25 years of committed service and notable contribution to the practice and advancement of
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the country.

These corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs have made a considerable contribution to
different stakeholders, including the community, direct beneficiaries, government, and global
community.

These programs have positively impacted diverse stakeholders in manifold ways. Such
initiatives have bolstered access to critical resources, for instance, education, healthcare, and
hygienic water, among others. Moreover, they have generated jobs, spurred economic
growth, and augmented the comprehensive welfare of communities. Direct beneficiaries,
comprising employees and customers, have enjoyed enhanced working conditions, employee
coaching, and merchandise safety measures.

Governments have leveraged CSR programs to improve social and ecological circumstances,
lower poverty rates, and augment tax revenue. Furthermore, such programs have supported
the governments in realizing their policy goals, such as curbing greenhouse gas emissions or
upgrading public health.

The global community has benefited significantly from CSR programs. These programs have
assisted in tackling global quandaries, such as climate change, poverty, and inequality.
Additionally, they have helped promote sustainable development by inculcating responsible
corporate conduct and minimizing adverse environmental impacts.
