III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities Student’s Activities
A. Preparation

1. Prayer

Class, please stand up for our opening

prayer. Phoemela, kindly lead the One of the students will lead the prayer
prayer.
Dear God….. In the name of Jesus Amen.
Thank you, Phoemela.
2. Greetings

Good morning, Class! Good morning, Ma’am!

Kindly pick up the pieces of trash on the

floor and arrange your chairs properly. After that,
you may now take your seats.

3. Checking of attendance

______, may I know who is the absent for today? None, Ma’am.

It’s good to hear that no one is absent for today.

4. Recalling of the Classroom Rules:

 Be prepared (students will read the classroom rules all
 Be respectful together)
 Raise your hand if you want to answer or
ask something
 Do your best

B. Energizer
To keep your body energized, I had prepared a
short dance video for you. We called this
“Mathematic Dance Challenge”, and we are
going to try this today. Are you ready class?
Okay, let’s start! Yes, Ma’am.

Yes, Ma’am.

It’s all about the Measures of Position on

Quartiles.
It determines the position of a single value in
relation to others in a sample.

This is the value that divide a set of data into

four equal parts.
Did you enjoy our Mathematics Dance
Challenge?
(Student’s answers vary)
C. Review
ga Now that you are energized, let us first
have a recap regarding our previous topic.
Hj
What is our topic last meeting?

Thank you! What is a Measure of Position?

Yes, Ma’am.
Very Good! What is Quartile?

Very good! It seems that you do understand our

previous lesson, about the Measures of Position
on Quartile.

D. Motivation
I guess you are now set for our next activity.
Are you familiar with the game called Average!
“Wikarambulan”? It was featured in Sunday
Pinasaya.
So, this is a simple game which challenges
your guessing skill. You are going to guess the
correct word by saying and connecting it. A
sound like game. Remember, you have to raise
your hand if you want to answer.

“Class, are you ready?”

“Let’s Start!”
1.
Ma’am middle.

Okay____, what’s the answer?

Very good!”

Let’s have the next one.

2.

Ma’am, that’s frequency!

Yes, ____.
That is correct! Tendency, Ma’am.
Okay, how about the third one?
3.

Yes,___. Measurement, Ma’am.

Very good!
4.

How about this? Yes,___.

Correct! Okay, next.
5. Central, Ma’am.

(Someone raise their hands)

Ma’am, the words that we’ve unlocked is

average, middle, frequency, tendency
measurement and central.

______, what is the answer?

Very good! How about the last one?

6.
Yes, Ma’am
Research about the measure of central
tendency for ungrouped data.

(Students show up their assignment)

Yes,___. What is the answer?

Again what are the words that we unlocked?

Correct! Those words are connected in our topic

for today which is Measures of Central Tendency
for Ungrouped Data.

E. Lesson Proper

e.1 Checking of the assignment

Yesterday, I gave you an assignment, am I

right?
(The student will read the given definition.)
And what it is?

Okay, that’s right!

Who are those who have their assignment?

Kindly show up your assignment so I can see if
you really did it.
Since we are all following the safety
protocols, you’re not allowed to exchange your
notebook with your seatmates. Instead, I will
collect your notebook after our class so that I
could check your assignment. I’m glad that all of
you do research about the measure of central
tendency.
Now, let us proceed on to our topic for
today.
e.2. Discussion

What is the Measures of Central Tendency? Ma’am the sum is 55.

_____, can you please read the definition?

11, Ma’am.

It is 5, Ma’am.
Okay! Thank you!

There are three Measures of Central Tendency for

ungrouped data. These are mean, median and
mode

I have a set of numbers here;

(The student will read the given definition.)

Using your calculators, I want all of you to add

those numbers.
What is the sum?

Very Good! What is the total number of data?

Correct!

Next, I want you to divide 55 to 11 since 11 is

the total number of data.
What is the quotient?

Now we can say that 5 is called the mean of

the ungrouped data.

_____, can you read the definition of the mean in

the slides?

18.5, Ma’am.

Thank you! _____.

So, this is the formula on how to find the mean of

ungrouped data.

Let’s try this

The ages of one.
five contestants in a Statistics Quiz (The student will read the given definition.)
Bee are the following: 18,17,18,19 and 20.
Find their average age.
On your white board, I want you to calculate
what is asked in the problem.

So, what is the answer?

Correct! Because when we add those ages of five
contestants, the answer is 92 and then will divide
into 5, that is equal to 18.5.

Now, let’s go to another measures of central

tendency, that’s median.

So___ kindly read the definition of median in our Arranged the numbers in ascending order.
slides.

116,119, 121, 121, 130, 131, 135, Ma’am.

Yes, Ma’am.

Let us try this formula in finding the median of 121, Ma’am.

this example.

What is the first step you must do to find the

median?

Very good! Now, on your white board I want you

to arrange those numbers.

Who can give me the proper arrangement of the

number?
Yes, _____.
Ma’am, 2,15,15,20,25,40,47 and 98.
Do you agree with his/her answer?

So, what is our median?

Correct! Our median is 121.

Okay, next example.

22.5
If the given elements are even, there will be two
middle terms.
To get the median you must simply add those The lowest value is 3.
two middle terms and divide by 2.
The number 6 appears twice in the set.
First, I want you to arrange the data in ascending
order. What is the proper arrangement of data?

Will you ____, can give the ascending order of

the data?

Correct! On your white board I want you to

compute the median on the given example.

______, what is our median?

Very good! Because when we add the two

middle term which are 20 and 25 that is equal to
45 and when we divide it by 2 the answer will be
22.5. (The student will read the given definition.)
Let us examine this set of data:

What can you say about the number?

Yes, What else?

Exactly! Now, we can say that number 6 is

considered as the mode in the set. Mode is the
third measures in the central tendency. 90and 70

There are 4 kinds of mode. ____, will you please

read what are those. Bimodal, Ma’am.

Because 90 and 70 appears twice in the set.

None, Ma’am.
Yes, Ma’am.

Okay! Thank you!

Let us try another!

Yes, Ma’am.

What is the mode in the set?

Very Good! What type of mode do we have?

(Students will do the designated tasks to
them.)
Why it is bimodal?

That’s correct!

Now we’re done to our discussion, is there any (Students will do the designated tasks to
question regarding to our topic? them.)

Are you sure?

F. Application
Now, if you don’t have any questions, let us do
an activity.
Ma’am the answer 14.4
First, look at the two cartolina that I posted in the
board. I posted pink and blue colors of cartolina
written with different problems. The pink
cartolina will be answered by the girls and boys
will answer the problem written on the blue
cartolina. You will answer the questions being
asked on your white board, and after that I
randomly choose 1 girl and 1 boy to show their The median is 18. The mode is 17 and the
answer.

in Junior High type of mode is unimodal.

below. Now, I want you to find the mean
of their ages.
Alright, the timer starts now. You may now
13, 14,
begin 14, 16, 17, 15,16, 13, 14, 12
answering.
Yes, Ma’am.

(students will get their emojis and show it

up)

The timer stops!

____, show your answer using your show me

board. What is the answer?

Very good! The average or the mean on the

problem in the pink is 14.4. Because when we
add those ages it is equal to 144 6, Ma’am.
then divided by 2 the answer is 14.4.
Ma’am the median is 5.
Now _____, it’s your turn to show the answer in
the problem. So, what is the answer in the 5, Ma’am.
problem?

Correct! The median is 18 because when we

arranged the numbers in ascending order the
middle term is 18. Also, the mode is 17 and it’s
unimodal because 1 value is occurred in the data Mean, Median and Mode
set.
Let us have the last problem.
We can get the mean by adding all the values
in the set, then dividing the sum by the
number of values.
For those who get the sad emoji you will not be
called to answer the problem. And for those who The midpoint of the data array.
get the smile emoji you’ll be the one to answer
that are asked in the problem.
Okay class, look at the back of your armchairs. It is a piece of data that occurs most
You see an emoji, right? frequently in the data set.
So, kindly show up your emojis.

(Students answer vary)

I’ll give you 2 minutes to answer.

Time stops!

Okay ,_____ what is the mean in the problem?

Correct! How about the median? Yes,___.

Very good! And what is the mode?

That’s right!

G. Generalization
If you really understand our lesson, can anyone
give me the three most important measures of
central tendency?

Good! What is the definition of Mean?

That’s Right! How about the Median?

Very good. What is the Mode?

For summarization, Mean is the average of the set

of data. Median is the middle element of the set
of data. Mode is the value that occurs most often.

What do you think is the importance of measures

of central tendency in real life?

Now, that I know that you really understand the

lesson let us have a short quiz.
IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Write your answers in a ¼ sheet of paper.
1. This is a piece of data that occurs most frequently in the data set.
a. Mean b. Mode c. Median
2. It is found by adding all the values in the set, then dividing the sum by the number of values.
a. Mean b. Mode c. Median
3. The midpoint of the data array.
a. Mean b. Mode c. Median
4-5. Give any two kinds of mode.

V. ASSIGNMENT
Make a research about “Measures of Central Tendency for Grouped Data”. Write it on your
notebook.

VI. CLOSING PRAYER

If you don’t have any questions, let us end our class with a closing prayer. So, may I request all
of you again to stand up.

We thank You, Lord, for the knowledge we learned today. Please help us to become your worthy
children to glorify you. To serve our country and our people honestly and honor our parents who
dream a good future for us. In the name of Jesus, AMEN!
