Q1 Read the following passage and answer the given questions in your notebooks.
Once upon a time, there lived an old man and his wife. One day they were very hungry, so they decided to
walk down the river to look for something to eat. As they were walking, they noticed an enormous peach
floating down a stream. They grabbed the peach and took it home to eat. When they cut into the peach they
found a sweet little boy inside. He got scared and thought they would hurt him as he came out of the peach,
but to his surprise he found them kind and caring. They comforted him and told him that there was no need
to be afraid of them. The woman said, ‘We will call you Ben.’ Ben grew big and strong. He was kind and
helpful.
There was an island near Ben’s village. On this island lived a giant who would often frighten the villagers
and take away their treasures. He decided to stop him from troubling the villagers. His father gave him a
sword and his mother gave him some spinach rolls to eat on his journey. On the way to the island, Ben met a
dog, a bird, a monkey and an elephant. But he only asked the dog, bird and a monkey to help him fight the
giant. They agreed, on condition that Ben would give them some of his spinach rolls. The rolls gave them
the strength of a thousand people.
After rowing to the island, they went in search of the giant. After a long tiring day, they found the giant
sleeping in his huge and dark cave. Ben’s animal friends came into action. The monkey scratched him, the
bird pecked him, the dog bit him and Ben attacked him with his sword. Ben and his friends told the giant to
return the stolen treasure to the villagers. The giant felt defeated and returned all the treasure.
