Comelec junks last DQ case vs Marcos
MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has junked the last disqualification case filed against President Marcos as it affirmed its First Division’s decision to deny the disqualification petition filed by the group Pudno Nga Ilocano against him.
In a 13-page decision promulgated on Oct. 7 but released only on Monday night, the Comelec stated that the partial motion for reconsideration filed by Pudno Nga Ilocano was denied as it did not raise new matters or issues that would convince the poll body to reconsider its decision.

Vhong refuses to enter plea in rape case
MANILA, Philippines — Host-comedian Vhong Navarro refused to enter a plea during his arraignment for rape yesterday.
Navarro is on trial for rape before the Taguig City Regional Trial Court Branch 69 after model Deniece Cornejo accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2014.

10K cops to be deployed for Undas
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office will field at least 10,000 police officers to secure public and private cemeteries during the observance of All Saints’ Day or “Undas,” the NCRPO said yesterday.
“This does not include force multipliers like tanods, security guards and civic volunteer organizations,” NCRPO spokesperson Lt. Col. Dexter Verzola said in a message on Viber.

First minors sentenced under Hong Kong security law
HONG KONG, China — The first minors convicted under Hong Kong's national security law were Saturday sentenced to detention in a training center by a judge who said their calls to overthrow China's government must be met with deterrence.
A 16-year-old girl and three 17-year-olds were members of a little-known pro-independence
group that called itself "Returning Valiant" and promoted a violent uprising against China at street booths and on social media last year, the court heard.
They were charged with "conspiracy to incite subversion" under a sweeping national security law that Beijing imposed on the city to stamp out dissent after huge and sometimes violent democracy protests three years ago.

SC suspends court stenographer for cheating on wife
MANILA, Philippines — A court stenographer has been suspended after the Supreme Court dismissed his family’s appeal to overturn his punishment for cheating on his wife.
In a resolution promulgated on Oct. 6, the SC found a stenographer of the Taguig Regional
Trial Court guilty of gross immorality.
He was suspended for six months, with a stern warning that a “commission of similar acts will be dealt with severely.”

80 Bulacan centenarians receive cash aid
MALOLOS, Philippines — The provincial government of Bulacan recently honored 80 centenarians as part of the observance of the Elderly Filipino Week. The recognition was conducted last Thursday through a zoom teleconference themed “Older Persons: Resilience in Nation-Building (Katatagan ng Nakatatanda, Magtataguyod ng Kaunlaran).”
The recognition was in line with a provincial ordinance that mandates the local government to grant P10,000 cash incentives and plaques of recognition to Bulakenyo centenarians.

28 Manila families get land titles
MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-eight landless families were given land titles in Manila last week, according to Mayor Honey Lacuna.
Lacuna, Vice Mayor Yul Servo and the city government’s Urban Settlements Office chief Cris Tenorio led the distribution to qualified beneficiaries from Districts 2, 3 and 4.
The land titles were distributed to the beneficiaries in a ceremony at city hall on Friday.
