I. OBJECTIVES:

III. PROCEDURES:

A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting new lesson.

SAY: Today, we will be able to:


 Detect biases and propaganda devices used by speakers.

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson.

ASK: Have you seen or heard an advertisement?


Where have you seen or heard it?
What are the advertisement that you’ve seen on TV? On Social Media
Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, tiktok, YouTube, etc.)? on magazines?
What are the advertisement that you’ve heard on radio?

(Play a sample video of ponds advertisement)

ASK: What is the advertisement all about?


What is the purpose of this advertisement?
Is it important to advertise a product or service?
Why?

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson.

SAY: I have here another example of advertisement. (Let the learner read it properly)

ASK: Is there a statement that shows a strong feeling for something without enough reason?

SAY: The Statement, “real woman have smooth skin” shows a strong feeling for something without enough
reason. This kind of statement is called BIAS. It is seen as one-sided perfective.

ASK: Are there also statement that spread ideas for the purpose of helping buys the product?

SAY: There are statement that will help a person buys this product. These are the following.
1. It is 100% organic.
2. More people use it.
3. Julia Montes endorses it.
These statements that aim to influence the attitude of a community towards something is called
PROPAGANDA. It promotes some causes to person who reads/hear it.

Here are some example of bias and propaganda statements.

BIAS: “Delicious burgers are offered only from well-known restaurants!”


PROPAGANDA: “It just taste better! Try it now!”

BIAS: “Trust your wife! They know better!”


PROPAGANDA: “Women are equally strong as men.”

SAY: Remember that bias is being prejudice while propaganda is spreading ideas that will help or injure a
person.

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1.

SAY: Identify the following statements, whether it is a PROPAGANDA or BIAS.

1. Don’t be fool! Alcohol is not cool!


2. All men like playing basketball.
3. Dogs are better than cats.
4. During the pandemic, LGU Presentacion donate food packages to its employees.
5. Show Your Care to Children. Be One of Us.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2

SAY: Now, I want you to go to your groupmates. Each group will receive an envelope. Inside your envelope
are the materials and the worksheet that you will used. You will be rated using this rubrics:

Finishess the activity on time: 10%


Work cooperatively: 10%
Identified the statement correctly: 70%
Presentation: 10%

Total: 100%

Group 1: CLASSIFY ME! (Read the statements inside the box. Classify them as bias or propaganda. Write
your answer in the table.
Group 2: PICTURE TALK! (Identify the statements shown in each picture. Write BIAS or PROPAGANDA.
Group 3: CRAFT-A-THING! (Make at least three bias and propaganda statements out of the picture given

ASK: Is it important to determine which is a propaganda statement and which is a bias statement? Why?

Yes, because nowadays, a lot of people were being fooled by what we see especially on social media.
fake news is everywhere. Knowing what is propaganda and what is bias, will help us decide better,
evaluate the result and be more responsible for all our choices.

H. Making Generalization of concepts and skills in daily living.

ASK: How are we going to identify a propaganda statement?

It is Propaganda Statement If it seeks to control what people believe that is the ideas they consider to be
true. If it promotes ideas as being the only real truth and denigrates other beliefs as plain wrong.

ASK: How about a bias statement?

If is convey strong feeling for or against something without enough reason. If it claims to be half-truth
baseless.

I. Evaluating learning.

Identify the following statements. Write BIAS or PROPAGANDA before each number.
