-Classification of Catering
- It is defined as the business of providing food and drink,
typically at social events and in a professional capacity either
on-site or at a remote site.
- Derived from Old English word “catour” which means to
provide food.
DEFINITION
OF BANQUET
-It is a formal large meal or feast where a number of people & CATERING
consume food together. It can also be referred as a place
which can use for having food & beverage with pre-arranged
number of peoples on prefixed date & time agreed menu &
price.
- Derived from Old French “banquet” means feast, and old
Italian “banchetto” meaning bench (eating on a bench/table)
HISTORY OF CATERING
4th millennium BC in China- During trading

Grand feasting of Old Egypt- Served by slaves

Ancient Greeks & Roman Empire- Catering as trade


by offering free services at their inns and hostels that
primary intent was to serve soldiers

Europe Middle ages- Monasteries cater for Christian


pilgrimage travelers
Late middle ages- Bourgeoises (upper class families) and a
monetary economy helped the popularity of catering to flourish
like during parties/social gatherings

14th and 15th century- Wide array of food and beer regulations HISTORY OF
began to take form; feasts and celebrations for kings and other CATERING
noblemen

French revolution 18th century- Catering guilds were forced to


find new ways to sell their talents and the first French restaurants
were started

prepares food for others.
Caterer could be an

and small gatherings.

However, for larger events, people must


seek help from a catering company or
restaurant. They can do home-service,
in banquet halls or outside venues.

meet directly with event planners to develop the menu
for a particular event

event and may also need to prepare and transport food
prior to an off-site event.

TYPES OF CATERING

This type of catering takes place in the caterer’s place. All the
functions and services will be held at the organizer’s exclusive facility
Example: inside the hotel, restaurants, banquet hall or private clubs
TYPES OF CATERING

This type of catering is when the prepared food in a kitchen and


transported to the location where it will be served to a group of
people (outside caterer’s place)
Example: private homes, office, church, village clubhouse, resort,
beach, etc.
1. Business or Corporate
Corporate catering refers to the provision of food and drinks to business and corporate
functions such as conference or conventions. The functions may range from onsite,
small office gatherings to offsite, upscale dinners. The cost of a corporate catering event
will also depend on the size and level of the function being hosted.
2. Social or Family
Social event functions are more intimate affairs and require greater attention to detail
by the caterer. The category encompasses special events such as birthday parties,
retirement celebrations, grand openings, housewarming parties, and bridal and baby
showers.
