4. Procedure
   s
Class, let’s have a review of your past lesson. What are the approaches to Waste Management?
Now, let’s have a game. I have here a jigsaw puzzle in the box. All you need to do is put the
pieces of the puzzle in order.
I need five volunteers who will play the game. The first five students who will raise their right
Introductory hand will be given a chance to complete the puzzle. At my signal the students will start the game
Activity and they need to finish it in two minutes. Is that clear class?
    5 minutes
Now class, what have you noticed about the picture in the jigsaw puzzle? Very good!
What do you call the conversion of old and used materials into new products? Excellent!
Can you cite some materials that can be recycled or turned into new products? Yes correct,
                 good job!
Class, I will group you into three. Each group will choose a leader.
The teacher will distribute the Manila paper and marker to each group.
Activity I will show you a video presentation about recycling. After watching the video, each group will
10 minutes write at least five benefits of recycling. A volunteer from the group will discuss the output in front
of the class. Do you have any questions before we proceed? None.
Let’s proceed with the video presentation.
Now class, the volunteers of the group had already discussed the different benefits of recycling
to us and to the environment. But we need to remember that old materials can also be used as
Analysis raw materials for manufacturing. Is that clear class?
    5 minutes
Class in recycling we need to consider the process of collecting the materials. How do we collect
the materials that can be recycled? Excellent! You are really paying attention!
Abstraction If you really understand our lesson today, what do you mean by recycling? Precisely! And what
10 minutes are the benefits of recycling? Excellent!
If you were given a chance to create something different from old materials, what could it be and
what is your purpose for making it?
Class, I have here three (3) boxes of old and used materials. Each group will choose their own
boxes. All you need to do is to turn the materials into valuable resources.
                 Box A
Shirt buttons of different colors, felt paper of various colors, specialty papers, glue, yarn, scissors
   Application Box B
   15 minutes
Old newspaper, wiggle eyes from stuffed toy, glue, yarn, scissors
                 Box C
Embroidery floss, fine-flip marker, glue, scissors, old cd, empty bottles
Any questions class? The teacher will give the boxes to the leader of each group.
TRUE or FALSE. Write “OLD” if the statement is true and “USED” if the statement is false.
_____ 1. One of the best ways to manage our trash is to recycle them.
_____ 2. Andrea applies recycling when she used the old materials as raw materials for
  Assessment manufacturing.
10 minutes _____ 3. Not all things are natural resources and can be returned to nature.
_____ 4. Recycling helps save energy by increasing the use of fuel in manufacturing products.
_____ 5. Being an example in your neighborhood can make a difference on how to protect and
                 preserve the environment.
  Assessment Tests
     Method
Students create bar graphs based on estimations and data collected about their own use of
disposable beverage containers for one week.
The bar graph should demonstrate how many containers they use in one week. Have them do a
projection of how many containers they will use in one month, 6 months, and one year. Have
Assignment students compare their totals with statistics to see if their consumption is above or below the
   2 minutes average.
Ask the students to draw conclusion about their own consumption. Do they feel it is important
that they recycle the containers they are using? Do they think they could use fewer containers
per week? What are some ways they could use fewer disposable beverage containers?
