Drug Study Tramadol

Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic opioid agonist used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the central nervous system. Common adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness and sedation. Special precautions are needed in patients with a history of seizures, hepatic or renal impairment, and the elderly. Nursing considerations include monitoring for signs of excessive sedation or respiratory depression and notifying the physician of any changes in the patient's condition.
