CREATIVE WRITING NON-FICTION
MELC: Present a commentary/critique on a chosen creative nonfictional text representing a
particular type or form such as; 1. Biography 2. Journalism 3. Personal Narrative 4.
Travelogue 5. Reflection Essay 6. True Narratives 7. Blogs 8. Testimonies
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Establish basic knowledge about the forms of non-fictional texts.
Explain the significance of learning and applying the writing skills in the course of
Humanities and in general.
Choose four (4) forms of non-fictional texts and craft one sample each.
KEY CONCEPTS: FORMS OF NON-FICTIONAL TEXTS
1.Biography- A biography is a detailed third person account of another person’s life
story. It contains basic information about the subject’s life—like their place of birth,
education, and interests. A biography may also chronicle relationships with family
members, as well as major events in the subject’s childhood and how those influenced
their upbringing. A biography details the various accomplishments and life events of a
real person, but it’s more than facts and figures—it comes to life with great stories told
from beginning to middle to end.
2.Journalism- Journalistic writing is the writing style news organizations use to
assemble a story. A news story has a hierarchy of information, beginning with the main
points at the top of the piece. News articles follow a specific set of guiding principles, like
the Associated Press style (also known as AP style), for grammar and vocabulary. While
newspapers and television were, until recently, the primary outlets for reporting current
events and human interest stories, journalists now write for a variety of online media
outlets and podcasts.
3.Personal Narrative- Personal narratives are written inside and outside of academia. They
can range from personal responses to books or events written by students to bestselling
memoirs. Personal narratives focus on personal growth, reflections, and lessons. They are
popular due to their easy-to-digest format and because humans are empathizing
creatures. It tells a story which is experiential, anecdotal, or personal. It allows the author
to creatively express their thoughts, feelings, ideas, and opinions. Its length can be
anywhere from a few paragraphs to hundreds of pages.
4.Travelogue- A travelogue is a truthful account of an individual’s experiences traveling,
usually told in the past tense and in the first person. The word travelogue supposedly
comes from a combination of the two words travel and monologue. In turn, the
word monologue comes from the Greek words monos (alone) and logos (speech, word). A
travelogue is then, in its most basic form, a spoken or written account of an individual’s
experiences traveling, which usually appears in the past tense, in the first person, and with
some verisimilitude. Because a travelogue aims to be a true account of an individual’s
experiences traveling, descriptions of what the traveler sees, hears, tastes, smells, and feels
in the external world while traveling are essential components. Thoughts, feelings, and
reflections are important parts of our experience of travel. So, descriptions of a traveler’s
inner world are not out-of-place in the travelogue.
5.Reflection Essay- Reflective writing is a form of creative writing where you examine an
experience or situation through self-reflection. Through the course of creating the reflective
paper, you describe insights that you gained or express your views on some experience.
Reflective essays are typically personal writings about an experience, but they can be made
up as well.
6.True Narratives- Narrative nonfiction, also known as narrative nonfiction or literary
nonfiction, is a true story written in the style of a fiction novel. The narrative nonfiction
genre contains factual prose that is written in a compelling way—facts told as a story.
While the emphasis is on the storytelling itself, narrative nonfiction must remain as
accurate to the truth as possible. It tells a real-life story about real people and events
with stylistic elements akin to that seen more in fiction. It often requires more research
than traditional news reportage due to its creative flexibility, as narrative nonfiction
writers must go to greater lengths to accurately express the facts and details of another
person’s life in a literary way.
7.Blogs- A blog is an online diary or journal located on a website. The content of a blog
typically includes text, pictures, videos, animated GIFs and even scans from old physical
offline diaries or journals and other hard copy documents. Since a blog can exist merely for
personal use, sharing information with an exclusive group or to engage the public, a blog
owner can set their blog for private or public access.
8.Testimonies- Testimonial literature is “an authentic narrative, told by a witness who
is moved to narrate by the urgency of a situation (e.g., war, oppression, revolution, etc.).
Emphasizing popular oral discourse, the witness portrays his or her own experience as
a representative of a collective memory and identity. Truth is summoned in the cause
of denouncing a present situation of exploitation and oppression or exorcising and setting
aright official history” (Yúdice 1985). This literature emerged as a backlash to the
mainstream Latin American literature, it was a way to write back and correct the
mainstream literature. These narratives dipher from a biography or autobiography, because
in most cases the author interviews an individual from a subaltern group, transcribing it to
tell the accounts in a first person format, giving the reader the sense the individual is
recounting the story orally. In some ways this form of narrative is similar to an
ethnographic work, but it emerges from a need to create social awareness and
consciousness to marginalized groups and the exploitations they face. This narrative is an
attempt to create a “global reordering of a social and economic context of power/differences
within which “literature” is produced and consumed.

BLOG (EXAMPLE)
Born in a poor family but i am happy with it, i was raised by my mother and My
name is Fonzy Rone, I was born in 13th of February 2002, in order to graduate in
Senior high school and to continue my studies, i need to do double-jobs, I am now
working in the Department of social welfare and development office as the Local
project development officer and also I have my sidelines which is my weekend radio
show, and hosting events.
REFFLECTIVE ESSAY
I was watching a Netflix series last week and was reminded once again that
Hollywood is more than just glamour and glitter, and that the greater picture is what
counts. The craft of filmmaking that elicits one of humanity's most fundamental instincts,
to feel. And that's something I can connect to in real life because, people see your nice
meals and socials, your clothing, make-up, and vacations, but what does it all mean?
That's when we realize we've lost track of what's really essential. It's the art you create out
of your wounded heart, as Carrie Fisher said.
2021 was not kind to me, or so I pretended. I began letting go of something really
significant at the beginning of the year. It had been a year of difficulty. Some of my closest
friends died. I lost faith in the institution I considered my second home. Not to mention the
fact that I had to work to support my studies. I felt like I was just bursting at the seams
with rage and resentment. It's like a stale revolt that isn't making a good difference any
more. It's so strong that it's nearly repulsive. Random jejemons on Facebook, friends and
teachers, churchmates, and even family members are all sources of negativity. They were
plentiful in my life. Those that continuously humiliate you are also the ones who have told
you that you're not pretty, that you're behind the times, that you're not normal, that you're
not mature enough, that you won't make it. And I was thinking that if I keep absorbing
everything, I'll run out of things to give back. Do whatever it takes to keep the poison that
these individuals bring with them out of your life. Although I have lost confidence in
people, I have never, ever lost confidence in God.
I don't want to be one of those individuals that lives a flimsy existence. If I wanted to share
a happy or negative recollection, I would do so because it is real. You will feel it if you
make me uncomfortable. I'll write you a letter if I feel more expressive in writing. If I
wanted to express gratitude to someone, I would do it in person rather than via a blog
post. When I say, "I'll pray for you," I mean it. You'll be included in my prayers before I go
to bed. I won't praise God on Facebook since He doesn't have one, but I will gladly express
that I do. If I want to filter my photo, I'll do it since it makes it seem better. Most
importantly, I don't want to spend my life in the virtual world and restrict myself since it is
miserable. I make the decision to live a happy, healthy, and balanced life.
I think you actually grow up when you bring out the kid in you and enjoy the beauty
around you. It's not your graduation, passport stamps, lipkits, or even your swear words
that will identify you, but it's how you create your character in kindness and pleasure that
will. It is, after all, the most beautiful thing. This year, I pledge to focus on healing and
forgiveness, as well as excellent health, a more disciplined lifestyle, compassion, giving
back, and fresh beginnings.
TRAVELOUGE
My Adventure Baculin Adventure
We all know that Baculin is one of the fresh and newly discovered places here
in the Philippines, specially here in Mindanao because of its lovely scenery and a
“Maldive” vibes. Last April I was given the opportunity to visit one of the ravishing
places here in Mindanao.
As imposible as I thought it would be, I was still shivering under the countless
number of layers I had on, as the icy, cruel wind blew onto my already frozen face.
Yes! Baculin Amazing Sand is cold! Before leaving for the trip, my colleagues and I
made sure that I had more clothes than I’d ever wear, so as to keep warm. Hours
had passed we arrived to Baculin Amazing Sand, the excitement flow to every part of
my body as I stepped out of the boat and savor the fresh air that touches my skin.
We stayed on the Camp, I was amaze by the place because of the white sand,
different kinds of beautiful and handsome people surrounded in it.
The most awaited day had come, we decided to roam around the island to see the
beautiful tourist attraction. We also did island hoping. Those were the tourist
attraction we visited.
Even though the time we spend there was limited, we still enjoyed. I hope I could
visit Baculin again.
BIOGRAPHY

(Written Task 2)
Directions: Explain the importance of learning and applying the skills and
knowledge in writing throughout your academic experience and life in general. Write in the
space provided.
Learning is necessary in our lives. Information and continual learning nurture our
brains in the same way that food feeds our bodies. Every job and organization has to invest
in lifelong learning. Continuous learning is now an important aspect of developing critical
thinking abilities and exploring new methods to interact with individuals from other
cultures. It's impossible to imagine a life without constant learning. Learning is important
because it helps me as a student to acquire the necessary skills through learning and
knowledge so that I can achieve my set goals. An important fact about learning is that it is
a means to improve knowledge and gain skills that will help in reaching specific goals it also
helps me to think creatively or to think outside the box. It keeps me from becoming narrow.
Rather than relying on teachers and classroom time for instruction and guidance, I became
more independent and self-directed learner. “The only thing that is constant is change,”
Heraclitus famously said; Change in your work, your personal life, your community, and
your organizations. Lifelong learning is one of the most effective methods to cope with
change.

General Title: LIFE AMIDST COVID-19
LIFE AMIDST COVID-19
The COVID-19 epidemic has undoubtedly jolted our society, particularly in our country,
Philippines. The country's and government's reaction to the rapid spike of cases in the
Philippines was, to put it lightly, poor. Furthermore, the provision of supplies and food products
to both regular residents and front liners remains ineffective. The news that lawmakers chose to
give relief products for their supporters with their names indicated, the time was spent rather
than just distributing the relief supplies as quickly as possible.
More than being disappointed by the cancellation of classes and other activities in our
school, I know that there are many other issues in our nation that deserve our attention. The
closure of firms has had a significant impact on our nation as a whole. It disproportionately
affects blue collar workers and people who live paycheck to paycheck. It is really disheartening
that the government continues to be slow to react to the demands of the people at this difficult
time. In my situation, I am very thankful that my family is not adversely impacted by the
closure of non-essential enterprises during the quarantine.
I can't even imagine what the frontliners at our hospitals around the nation are going
through right now. I am grateful that I am secure at home and that all I need to do to keep safe
is follow the community quarantine regulations. The present scenario has had a huge impact on
my everyday life. I used to be able to visit my family and play games with my cousins
throughout the summer. Every Friday, my family would travel to our cousin`s houses to meet
up with them. Instead, we now video call using Messenger. This is to ensure the safety of our
relatives.
Aside from being at home, I need to prioritize my health and well-being. I've started
washing my hands more often, every other hour.
Being confined to our homes implies that we must all adapt to a new way of life. All of the
structure that we had before is now gone. This has been a godsend to me since I can now devote
my time to focus on my online classes and reviewing for the college entrance exams. I am lucky
that time was given to me to reflect on my life and where I want to go.
Despite all of the horrible consequences of this epidemic, there have been little acts of
goodwill by people that have made the headlines. People demonstrating that, regardless of what
is going on in the globe right now, we must remain grateful and offer each other a helping hand
during this crisis. I see Jesus in our frontline health workers who risk their health to assist
individuals in recovering from the infection.
When I think about the future, I am overcome with feelings such as relief, anxiousness,
and hopefulness. I am glad to learn that the Philippines is beginning to eradicate the COVID-19
virus, it will be like seeing the light at the end of a long tunnel. I'll be thrilled to hear that we
may be able to leave our homes again and resume our lives as they were before the outbreak.
However, this sensation of relief may be accompanied by a feeling of fear; places such as
Singapore have had second and third waves of the virus, and the Philippines may face the same.
Finally, the future gives me optimism that we will learn to be better prepared as a result
of this epidemic. Hopefully, plans will be put in place to assist those in need during the next
epidemic. In a moment of crisis, our society should learn to wrap its arms around one another.
The habit of hoarding items such as alcohol and masks should be abandoned the next time a
virus like this emerges. Instead, we must assist our neighbors and learn to watch out for one
another, which will help you defend yourself from the virus indirectly. God is calling on us to
practice the Filipino characteristic of “bayanihan” so that we can face this epidemic together as
a nation, and I hope that we can Heal as one.
Note: Write neatly and legibly. NO ERASURES.
