LAB REPORT BIO460

NAME : Siti Nur Aqilah Binti Asrul

MATRIX NO. : 2020963825
CLASS : AS2011A

PRACTICAL 1: Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells

Objectives:

1. Define prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

2. Describe the similarities and differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic
cells.

Result:

a. Bacteria cell in live culture yogurt.

b. Algae cell – Anabaena

c. Cheek epithelium cell

d. Plant cell – Elodea

Post-Lab Questions:

1. List TWO (2) general similarities and differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic
cells as seen during the experiment.

Similarities Differences

Both have genetic material which is DNA DNA in prokaryotes floats freely in the cell
while eukaryotes DNA is inside nucleus.

Contain ribosome Eukaryotes cells are on average ten

times larger than prokaryotic cells

2. List TWO (2) general similarities and differences between animal and plant cells as
seen during the experiment.

Similarities Differences

1. Contains nucleus 1. Plant cell have cell walls but animal

cell does not have.

2. Have mitochondria 2. Plant cells contain chloroplast, while

animal cells have no chloroplast

PRACTICAL 2: Animalia

Objectives:

1. To recognize representatives of invertebrates, chordates and vertebrates

2. To explain the basic body plan of invertebrates, chordates and vertebrates
3. To identify the structures found in the animal groups and their functions

Result

a. Squid
b. Fish
c. Mussel/cockles

d. Earthworm
e. Grasshopper

Post-Lab Questions:
1. Describe the adaptation of bivalves to seawater.
The adaptations of bivalves to seawater is by having gills. Mussels breathe
exclusively through gills. The gills not only serve for respiration, but also for
feeding. Other than that, bivalves have chemosensory cells at the edge of the
mantle that are used to detect chemical signals in the water.

2. Externally, arthropods have specialized parts compared to annelids. Explain.

Arthropods body segment are specialized into various body parts, with the
appendages of each segment specialized for specific functions.
