1 Overviews
FOSCAM offers the most comprehensive central management software IP Camera Client,
designed for managing all FOSCAM IP surveillance cameras with numerous features.
It supports management or monitoring multiple cameras for monitoring, recording, playback, and
alarm management with efficient control.

1.2 Software Installation

1) Insert the CD in the CD drive of your computer. Open the CD, find the software
"FoscamVMS.exe". Also, you can download Foscam VMS from Foscam official website.
2) Double click the software and follow the setup wizard to install the program.

3) The FoscamVMS icon will appear on the desktop automatically after a successful installation.

Note:
Sometimes the program will be treated as virus, so before installing, please add the software as
trusted program on your computer.

2 Surveillance Software GUI
After finishing software installation, you can take time to learn the operation of the software.

2.1 Login Window

Double click the shortcut icon and it will pop up the login window:

Section1 Username & Password


The default Usename and Password are admin and (blank).
Note:
At your first time logging in the software, choose System Settings on the top of the software
interface and go to the User Management Settings panel, then reset the username or
password to prevent intruders access.

Section2 Language
Supporting multi-language installation package, the system will automatically identify the
language, such as the system is in English, the installation wizard will be in English .
Section3 Save / Auto-Login

Select Save, you don't need to re-enter the username & password when log in next time.
Select Auto-Login, when you log in next time, the login window won't appear, and you can see
the surveillance window directly.
Section4 Login & Cancel
Click Login button to login the software.

2.2 Surveillance Window

Click Login button on the login page and you will enter the surveillance window.

First time you login the software, the whole video window is black, you need to connect the
cameras and add cameras to it.

2.2.1 Section 1 Menu Bar

Click this button to add device.

Click Add Device button, then follow below steps:


Step1 Select the device type from dropdown list, the default type is IPC(IP camera).
Step2 Click Search.
Step3 Click the IP address of the camera on the list, then the name of the camera and the IP
information will be enter automatically.
Step4 Enter the username and password of the camera.
Step5 Click Add.

If your camera supports P2P, you can add the camera use P2P connection also. Click the P2P
Connection first, then follow the step 2 to 5 above.

Click this button to set VMS system, please refer chapter 3.1 for the detail setting.

Click this button to playback the video recording, please refer chapter 3.2 for the detail
setting.

Click this button to check the log in and log out record.

Select the start time and the end time when you need to check the log, then click Enquiry. All the
log will be list in log enquiry table.

Click this button to select the number of split-screen on one page.

The client can monitor many cameras at one page, here you can choose the display number.
The maximum number is 16.

Click this button to view the previous page.

Click this button to view the next page.

Click this button to enter full screen, press Esc to exit the full-screen.

Patrol button. Click this button, it turns to green , then the surveillance window
pages will turn to the next one at the rate of setting time.

Click this button to close all the cameras.

The PC date and time.

The CPU and Disc status of PC.

Lock the current screen, click this button, it turns , the screen is be locked. If you
want to unlock, click this button, then pop up the login window, enter the username and
password to login again, then the screen will be unlocked.

Switch the user

Minimize the program

Close the program. Click close button, the login window will pop up, enter the username
and password to login, then VMS will be closed.

2.2.2 Section 2 Live Window

There are some icons on the right banner.

When you click the icon 3 to icon 6, they will turn the color to indicate effecting.

1----- Recording Indicator When click record icon (icon 3) to record, this icon will turn to green

, it indicates that the camera is recording.


2----- Close Click the icon to close this channel live window.
3----- Record Click it and do manually recording. When recording, icon 1 will turn to green.
Click it again and stop recording. The recording files will be stored to C disk automatically.
Please go to this panel to change the storage path: System Settings > Video Record Settings.

4----- Listen Click the icon then you will hear sound captured by the camera's built-in
microphone. You may need to plug in earphones or enable the computer speakers to hear from
the camera's microphone. Make sure the camera supports audio. Click again and stop audio.

5----- Snapshot Click it to make snapshot. After snapshot, the button banner will prompt
Captured Successfully. And you can find the picture on default path C:\VMS_CAPTURE.

You can change the storage path: Click System Settings > Basic Setting, click Select to
choose the storage path, then click Save.

6----- Talk Click the button, then talk to the microphone that connected with PC, people around
the camera can here your voice. Click the icon again and stop talking.

Onscreen Mouse Control

Right click mouse on the Live Window, you do the setting by click the option on the screen.

2.2.3 Section 3 Device List

This area show the camera information.


Right click "Video Input Device" , here you can add device, add groups, delete all connected
devices and so on.

Click "Add Device" to add the device, or you can click the Add Device icon on the
menu bar to add.

After adding device to the client, you can see the devices list under Video Input Device.
Right click the device name, you can setting it or delete it from the client.

2.2.4 Section 4 Pan / Tilt Control


Click one connected device video, then click Pan/Tilt Control, if the camera supports PT, here
you can operate the cradle head.

If the camera supports Zoom function, you can press the "zoom in" or "zoom out" button to zoom,
and release the button to stop.

On Pan/Tilt Control section, you can set the preset position and run the cruise.

How to do preset position?


Firstly, move the camera by direction control icons and stop at a desired place where you want to
make preset position.
Secondly, select a number for Preset dropdown list, for example, select 1, then click Setup. Now
this preset position is set up as 1 position.
With this method, you can move the camera by direction control icons and stop at another place,
and set the other preset positions. The camera supports up to 16 preset positions.
Select a number which you have set, click Run button, the camera will move to the preset
position. If you don't need this place anymore, select the number, then click Delete button.

After setting the preset position, go to the Device List, right click the camera name, enter the
camera setting to do cruise setting(refer 4.6.2 Cruise Settings), then you can select the cruise
number from the Cruise dropdown list to run the cruise.

3 Advanced Settings

3.1 System Settings

Click System Settings button , on this section, you can do the basic setting, video
recording setting, action with alarm setting, and so on.

3.1.1 Basic Settings

1--- Capture Path Click Select to choose the storage path, then click Save. You can find the
picture on this setting path after snapshot.
2--- Patrol Time Enter the patrol time you want. When you open the patrol function, the
surveillance window pages will turn to the next one at the rate of setting time.
3--- The stream type of the previewed video
Auto-Adaption: Camera can adapt the stream based on different network environment. It uses
main stream when you access the camera from LAN. When access the camera from Internet, it

will change to sub stream automatically.

Also, you can select the stream manually. Select Main Stream if you want to access the camera
from LAN and Sub Stream will be better if you want to access the camera from Internet.
Note:
Select sub stream to ensure a more fluent video under narrow network bandwidth.

4--- Loop Video Recording Tick this option to open loop video recording.
5--- Other Settings
Automatically return to the last layout: Tick this option, the layout will be same as the last one
when you launch VMS next time.
Automatically star up at boot: Tick this option, VMS will launch automatically when you start up
computer.
Search Automatically: Tick this option, VMS will search the devices in the same LAN
automatically.
Note:
When you tick Search Automatically option, VMS will search the devices in the same LAN
automatically. The camera will appear in the device list even you have deleted it from the list.
You can right click the camera name, select Connection Settings, enter the username and
password of this camera, click Save to add the camera to VMS.

3.1.2 Video Record Settings

The page indicates the gross capacity and the spare one. Select the disk which you want to
storage recording , and the recording will be storage to the path you tick.

3.1.3 Action With Alarm Settings

VMS supports mention detection, please follow below steps to set:


Step1 Select the camera.

Step2 Set the schedule. Click the ALL button, you will see all time range turn green. When
something moving in the detection area at anytime, the camera will alarm. Also, you can set the
time by click the period or day.
Step3 Select the type of alarm. VMS supports three action when alarm.
Alarm Recording: Camera will record when alarm, you can find the recording at the path you
set on Video Recording Settings page.

Sound Detection: You can hear the alarm sound from your computer.
Alarm Snapshot: When alarm, camera will capture the picture, you can fine the snapshot at the
path which set on Capture Path page.
Step4 Click Save button to take effect.
When the alarm triggered, you can see the horn icon on the live window.

Note:
Make sure you have enabled the Motion Detection, set the detection area and the schedule
firstly (refer to 4.5 Detector). On camera Detector setting page, the default setting is enable.The
default detection area is the full live window, and the schedule is all the time.
The VMS Alarm schedule time must be same as the camera's schedule which be set on camera
Detector setting page, or else the alarm won't take effect.

3.1.4 Record Scheme Settings


VMS will record once you add the camera, and the Recording Indicator Icon is green when
schemed record.

The default schemed record time is all. You can set the time by click the period in checkbox.
Select the camera, set the time, then click Save. For example, you set TUE as the schemed
record time, then the camera will record on the whole Tuesday once you connect the camera to
VMS.

3.1.5 User Management Settings
Here you can create users and set permission levels for admin, operator or guest.
Admin has the top permission level to administer the VMS.

Operate doesn't have permissions to add device, do VMS system setting or do camera setting.
Guest can view the surveillance window, can't do any setting of VMS and camera.

Create User
Click Add, enter the new username and password, select the level for the user group, then click
Save to take effect.

Modify the user
Select one existent account, select Modify, you can change the username, password and the
user group,then click Save to take effect.

Delete one existent account
Select the account you want to delete, click Delete.

Then pop up the dialog box, click "Yes" to delete the existent account.

3.2 Video Playback

Click Video Playback button , on this section, you can search and playback the record
files of the client or play other videos.

Step 1: Select the device in Video Input Device list.

Step 2: Select the searched types of recording files.

Here supports four types of record files:


Plan: The plan record files.
Manual: The manually record files.
Alarm: The alarm record files.
Motion Detection: The motion detection record fills.

Step 3: Select the date: year-month-date.

Step 4: Click Search, VMS will search the record files which satisfy the corresponding
conditions, You will see the record files which mark orange in the time box.

Step 5: Select the camera name and the file, then then click Play button to play the record.

There is a button bar blow the playback window, you can click the button to operate the
recording.

Play next frame

Stop playing

Play with slow speed

Play with fast speed

Open the recording file

When playing, you can select the time to position the recording. Select the hour, then click the up

side button or the down side button. With the method to position the minute and the second.

Next one

Last one

After setting the position time, click Position, then the recording will be position to the setting
time.

4 Camera Settings
Select the camera in Device list, then right click the camera name, select "Camera Settings".
Here you can find the information and do the setting for camera.

4.1 Status

Status contains four columns: Device Information, Device Status, Session Status and Log, it will
show you various information about your camera.

4.1.1 Device Information


On this page you can see device information such as camera model, name, ID, firmware version
and so on.

4.1.2 Device Status

On this page you can see device status such as Alarm status, Record Status ,DDNS status ,WIFI
status and so on.

4.1.3 Session Status

Session status will display who and which IP is visiting the camera now.

4.1.4 Log
The log record shows who and which IP address accessed or logout the camera.

4.2 Basic Settings

This section allows you to configure your camera's Name, Time.

4.2.1 Camera Name

The Device Name is a unique name that you can give to your device to help identify it.You can
define a name for your camera here such as apple. Click Save to save your changes.

4.2.2 Camera Time

This section allows you to configure the settings of the internal system clocks for your camera.

Time Zone: Select the time zone for your region from the dropdown list.
Sync with NTP server: Network Time Protocol will synchronize your camera with an Internet

time server. Choose the one that is closest to your camera.
Sync with PC/Terminal: Select this option to synchronize the date and time of the Network
Camera with your computer.
Device Time: The administrator can enter the date and time manually. Select the date and time
format from the dropdown list, then set the time you need.
Use DST: Select the daylight saving time and enter the minutes to Ahead Of Time box.
Click Save button and submit your settings.

Note:
If the power supply of camera is disconnect, you need set the camera's time again.

4.3 Network

4.3.1 IP Configuration

On the page, you can set a static IP for the camera. Keep the camera in the same subnet of your
router or computer.

It is recommended that you use the subnet mask, gateway and DNS server from your locally
attached PC. If you don't know the subnet mask, gateway and DNS server, you can check your
computer's local area connection as follows:
Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connections > Choose Support >

If you don't know the DNS server, you can use the same settings as the Default Gateway.

4.3.2 Port

HTTP Port is used to access the camera remotely. If you want to access the camera and view
the video, the HTTP Port must both be configured correctly.

HTTP port: The default HTTP port is set to 88. Also, they can be assigned with another port
number between 1 and 65535. But make sure they can not be conflict with other existing ports
like 25, 21.

HTTPS port: The default HTTPS port is 443. You can use the url to access the camera: https://
IP + HTTPS port.
ONVIF port: The default ONVIF port is 888. Also, they can be assigned with another port
number between 1 and 65535(except 0 and 65534). But make sure they can not be conflict with
other existing ports.

4.3.3 Mail Settings

If you want the camera to send emails when motion has been detected, here Mail will need to be
configured.
Enable the Mail settings.

SMTP Server/ Port /Transport Layer Security Enter SMTP server for sender. SMTP port is
usually set as 25. Some SMTP servers have their own port, such as 587 or 465, and Transport
Layer Security usually is None. If you use Gmail, Transport Layer Security must be set to TLS or
STARTTLS and SMTP Port must be set to 465 or 25 or 587, which port you choose should be
decided by which Transport Layer Security you select.
SMTP Username/ password ID account and password of the sender email address.
Sender Mailbox for sender must support SMTP.
Receiver Mailbox for receiver need not support SMTP, you can set 4 receivers.
Test Click Test to see if Mail has been successfully configured.

If the test success, you can see Success above the Save button, at the same time the receivers
will receive a test mail.
If the test failed, you will see Failed above the Save button. Please verify that the information
you entered is correct and again select Test .

Save After test success, click Save to take effect.

4.3.4 FTP Settings

If you want to upload record files and images to your FTP server, you can set FTP Settings.

FTP Server: After you build up your FTP server , enter the address.
Port: Default is port 21. If changed, external FTP client program must change the server
connection port accordingly.
FTP Mode: Here supports two modes: PORT and PASV.
Username/Password: The FTP account and password.
Click Test to see if FTP has been successfully configured.
Click Save to take effect.

4.3.5 P2P

Enable P2P port, then enter the P2P port of camera.

4.4 Video

4.4.1 Video Settings

There are two ways to set the stream video settings. They are main stream video settings and
sub stream video settings.

Stream type: There are four types to identify different streams you have set.

Resolution: The camera supports multiple types. The higher the resolution is the clearer video
will become. But the code flux will become larger too, and it will take up more bandwidth. (The
maximum frame rate for each model is different. )

Bit Rate: Generally speaking, the larger the bit rate is, the clearer video will become. But the bit
rate configuration should combine well with the network bandwidth. When the bandwidth is very
narrow, and bit rate is large, that will lead to video can not play well.

Frame rate:Note that a larger frame size takes up more bandwidth. You should lower frame rate when the
bandwidth is limited. Normally, when the frame rate above 15, you can achieve fluently video.The maximum

frame rate for each model is different.

Key Frame Interval: The time between last key frame and next key frame. The shorter the
duration, the more likely you will get a better video quality, but at the cost of higher network
bandwidth consumption.

Variable Bitrate: The two options are Yes and NO. Select Yes the bit rate is variable, and the
highest value isn't higher than Bit Rate Value (2Mbps). Select NO and the bit rate is constant with
Bit Rate Value (2Mbps).

4.4.2 On Screen Display


You can set the screen display on this page.

Display Timestamp: Tick this option, then the time won't display on the video.
Display Camera Name: Tick this option, then the camera name won't display on the video.

4.4.3 IR LED Schedule

You can set three different periods on IR LED Schedule page. The IR LED will be turned off
during the setting periods.
Note:
You must set the IR LED light(next page) to schedule mode first, then the IR LED Schedule can
take effect.

4.4.4 IR LED Lights


There are three modes to set the IR LED lights.
Auto: The default mode is auto. On this mode, IR LED lights will be switched automatically
depended on the brightness of enviroment.
Manual: On this mode, you can click On option to turn on the IR LED lights, and click Off option
to turn off the IR LED lights.
Schedule: On this mode, IR LED lights will be turned off during the setting schedule.

4.4.5 Snapshot Settings

On this page you can set the snapshot pictures' image quality and the storage path.

Manual snap Quality: Low, Middle and High. The higher the quality, the picture will be clearer.
Pictures Save To: FTP or SD card. If you have done FTP and Alarm settings, when alarming,
the camera will snap pictures to the FTP or SD card automatically. If select SD Card as the save
path, make sure the camera has inserted in the SD card.

Enable timing to capture


To enable capture interval, follow the steps below:
1 Tick Enable timing to capture.
2 Capture interval:The interval time between two captures.
3 Select the capture time
1)Capture anytime
Click the black button ALL, you will see all time range turn green. When something moving
in the detection area at anytime, the camera will capture.
2)Specify capture schedule

Click the day, the corresponding column will be selected. For example, click TUE, the all
column of TUE turns to green, that means during Tuesday whole day, the camera will
capture.
3)Also, you can select the serial area by click the area on the time boxes.
4 Click Save button to take effect.

4.4.6 Color Adjustment Settings


On this page, you can tune Hue, Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness to get higher
quality.

Mirror: Click this button, then the live window will be turn to mirror mode.
Flip: Click this button, then the live window will be flip.

Power frequency
There are three frequency for power, you can select it based on the region and the place where
the camera located.
1) 50HZ ---------Indoor surveillance (Region: Europe, China)
2) 60HZ ---------Indoor surveillance (Region: USA, Canada)
3) Outdoor------Outdoor surveillance

4.5 Detector

IP Camera supports Motion Detection, when the motion has been detected, the IP Camera will
make an alarm.
Note:
The Motion Detection page could be a little different between different cameras.

To enable motion detection, please follow the steps below:


Step1 Enable Motion detection.
Step2 Enter Trigger Interval. Trigger Interval is the interval time between two motion detection.
Step3 Set the detection area.

Click Set Detection Area to pop up the window, left-click and drag to draw the detection area.
You can set three zones on live window. Enable the zone, select the sensitivity level.It supports
five modes: Lowest, Lower, Low, Medium and High. The higher the sensitivity, the camera will be
more easily alarmed. Click OK to take effect.
Step4 Set the action when the motion has been detected.
There are some alarm indicators:
A Camera Sound
When the camera has connected with a speaker or other audio output device, if you select Camera Sound,

the people around the camera will hear beep alarm sound when the motion has been detected.

B Send E-mail
If you want to receive alarm emails when motion is detected, you must select Send E-mail and
set Mail Settings first.
C Take Snapshot
If you select Take Snapshot, when the motion has been detected, the camera will snap the live
view window as a still picture and storage it to the path you set at Capture Path.

Capture Interval: The interval time between two pictures.
D Recording
If you select this checkbox, when the motion has been detected, the camera will record
automatically and store the record files to the path you set at Video Record Settings.

E Push message to the phone


If you select this checkbox, when the motion has been detected, the camera will push the
message to the phone which has been connected the camera.
Step5 Set the alarm schedule.
Please select ALL if you want the camera alarm at any time when motion is detected. Of course,
you can select the alarm scheduler by day or click the period manually.
Step6 Click Save to take effect.

4.6 PTZ

If you camera has connected with cradle head, here you can use PTZ (pan / tilt / Zoom).

4.6.1 Pan & Tilt Speed

There are five PTZ speed types: very fast, fast, normal, slow and very slowly. Select the desired
PTZ speed type and click Save button.

4.6.2 Cruise Settings

Setting the Cruise Mode


There are two cruise mode: Cruise time and Cruise Loops.
Cruise time: Select Cruise time from Cruise Mode drop-down, then you can set the Cruise
time of the camera.

Cruise Loops: Select Cruise Loops from Cruise Mode drop-down, you can set the Cruise
Loops of the camera.

Click Save to take effect.

Manage the Cruise Track
Note:
You need to set the preset position before setting the cruise track. Please refer 2.2.4 Section4
Pan/Tilt Control to set.

Please follow the steps below to add cruise track after setting preset position.

Step1 Select the number from Cruise Tracks dropdown list to identify the cruise track.
Step2 Click the preset point number which you have set on the surveillance window. For
example, select preset position number 3.
Step3 Click the add button to add the preset position.

Now you can see preset position number 3 has been added to Cruise Track box on the right
page.
Step4 Click the added preset point, then double click the Residence time to enter the stay time.
You need to add two or more preset points to make cruise track.
Step5 Click Save to take effect.
After setting, you can go to Pan/Tilt Control on surveillance window, then select the cruise
number from the Cruise dropdown list to run the cruise.

With the method, you can add other cruise tracks. If you want to delete the cruise track, select
the cruise track number, then click Delete.

Attention:
Considering the life time and thermal issue of the motor, it's not recommend to do long-time
cruise.

4.6.3 Start-Up Options


This page will allow you to set the stop position after the camera reboots.

It supports three modes: Disable Start-Up,Go To Home Position,Go To Preset Position.

Disable Start-Up: When rebooting, the camera will not pan / tilt.
Go To Home Position: When rebooting, the camera will pan / tilt and stops at center.
Go To Preset Position: Select one preset position and save it. When rebooting, the camera will
pan/ tilt and stops at the preset position you have set.

4.7 System

4.7.1 Factory Reset


Click Factory Reset to reset the camera and all parameters will return to factory default
settings .This is similar to press the Reset button on the camera.

Click Reboot to reboot the camera. This is similar to unplugging the power to the camera.
