Centrifuge Calibration

The document provides instructions for adjusting the top speed of a Model 755 centrifuge. It describes using a potentiometer located under the centrifuge to increase or decrease the maximum RPM from the factory calibrated speed of 115 volts. Turning the potentiometer clockwise increases the speed while counterclockwise decreases it. The adjustment should not exceed 3,150 RPM or it will void the manufacturer's warranty.

Top-Speed Adjustment—Model 755 Centrifuge

Your Model 755 centrifuge is calibrated at the factory with a line voltage of 115 volts. This speed is
recorded on a calibration sticker on the rear of the centrifuge. Use the following procedure to perform
additional calibration when necessary.

The top speed may be altered by adjusting the ‘Max Speed Adjustment’ potentiometer on the underside
of the centrifuge (shown in Figure 1). The access point for this adjustment is located on the base near
the front of the centrifuge (below the control panel) marked with a sticker reading ‘Max Speed
Adjustment’.

1. Position the centrifuge so that the ‘Max Speed Adjustment’ point can be safely accessed while the
centrifuge is running.
2. Plug the centrifuge into an approved 115 Volt electrical outlet.
3. Press the open button to unlock the lid. The lid is unlocked when the red ’UNLOCKED’ indicator light
is illuminated
4. Open the lid.
5. Check to make sure that the rotor is properly installed and that the thumb screw is secure.
6. Check to make sure that all six tube carriers are present and installed properly.
7. Note the position of the reflective calibration tape on the rotor. If no tape is present, place a 1/4”
square piece on the outer edge of the rotor.
8. Close and latch the lid. The lid is properly latched when the yellow ‘LATCH’ indicator light is
illuminated.
9. Press the ‘START’ button to begin a run.
10. Use a photo-tachometer to measure the top running speed.
The manufacturer recommends the Drucker Photo-tachometer, p/n 7717050. Contact The Drucker
Company for more information at 814-342-6205.
MAX. SPEED
11. Use a small flat-headed screwdriver ADJUSTMENT
Figure 1
to turn the potentiometer at the ‘Max ACCESS
Speed Adjustment’ access until the de- HOLE
sired speed is attained. Turn the shaft
clockwise to increase speed, counter-
clockwise to decrease speed.
12. Setting the speed above 3,150 RPM
is not recommended by the manufacturer
and voids the manufacturer’s warranty.
