INSTALLATION OF SINGLE-PHASE ENERGY METER(LUKU)

 INTRODUCTION

Single phase energy meter (DDSD101); is the new type of single-phase keypad operated prepayment
energy meter.

 It is the LUKU type meter from which the user purchases energy at the rendering station and get
20digits serial numbers named as “TOKEN”

 The token is entered into meter via the keypad of the meter which acts as a credit and then
transferred to the meter.

 MATERIALS USED IN METER INSTALLATION

 25mm Cable; which makes the current flow from the pole to the bracket

 16mm Cable; take power from 25mm to input of the meter

 4mm Copper wire; for the output from the meter to the load

 Single phase energy meter ODSD101(LUKU)

 PG clamp; used to connect two cables at the taping point

 Tension clamp; used to support the tension force at the bracket or power pole

 D-Iron, LV shackle insulator, coach screw

 Hold hoop; usually used if the meter is mounted at the top of power pole  Tapping screw;
usually used when the meter is mounted at the wall

3. RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSION
3.1 RECOMMENDATIONS

Most of the times during training session, in the sites we were working with foremen’s which could not
answer some of the questions asked due to lack of electrical knowledge although they are good in
practical work. This could take long time to find Engineers for clarification.

Also, some of the company infrastructures are worse, and they are not inspected until they stop
functioning. These affect many users of electric power supplied by the company when some of these
infrastructure stops working. It should be better for the company to arrange regular maintenance of its
infrastructure before they break up to ensure their customer with constantly supply of the service.

Also, I recommend that, IPT money should be increased to one million so that the students can acquire
the training at any place even if the place is far from their homes. This should be accompanied with the
arriving of that money within a right time.

3.2 CONCLUSION

Eight weeks of my Practical training (IPT) at TANESCO in Dodoma Regional Head Office was essential
in my Engineering carrier. During this training session I came to learn many things conducted in the field
of Electrical which are neither taught in classes nor in workshops. Also, the training enabled me to get
experience in some electrical works. For these, the IPT is vital part of the diploma program in any
Engineering course.
