EFFICIENT MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT
1. PURPOSE
To ensure safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of equipment.
2. SCOPE
This procedure covers preventive, predictive maintenance & attending breakdown of all the station
equipment under GSPL. (Electrical)
3. DESCRIPTION
For carrying out safe, reliable and efficient maintenance of any equipment the following maintenance
practices shall be adopted.

EFFICIENT MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT
10. As far as it is practicable, work on or close to machinery only when they are stopped. If this
is not possible, keep tools, test equipment and all parts of body well away from the
moving parts of the machinery.
11. Many liquids used in machinery are harmful if swallowed or splashed into the eyes. In the
event of accidentally swallowing a potentially dangerous fluid, Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) shall be referred and/or obtain medical assistance.
12. Follow work permit system during maintenance and the permit shall be available at site.
13. All tools viz; punches, chisels, wrenches and drills must be kept free of burred heads
securely fitted.
14. File handles must be used at all times while filing.
15. Never allow tools to be left on top of motors, pumps, crane beams, air tanks, or any high
place where vibration would cause them to fall on passers-by.
16. Do not allow chain hoist hooks, blocks or chain to hang in passageway.
17. All guards over moving machinery must be kept in place.
18. Steps and platforms must be kept free of grease, oil or greasy rags.
19. Keep all oily or greasy rags in metal container.
20. Caution Boards shall be displayed at the appropriate location
21. For carrying out maintenances of equipment, activities of both manufacturer’s manual
and formats of respective equipment should be covered.
22. During the entire maintenance period, a display board is to be tagged on the equipment
indicating “Equipment Under maintenance" which is to be removed just before handing
over the equipment to operations Department.
23. Electrical de-energisatin/energisation, log out & tag out shall be done by the authorized
person as per system requirement.
24. Never enter which have housed petroleum product until such spaces have been tested
and declared safe for human being.
25. For maintenance of tanks/confined spaces, make the tanks/ storage/ confined space free
of hazardous gas using special equipment and then only enter the tank
26. The dyke (wherever provided) shall be cut for entry/exist of various materials for
maintenance of tank
27. Clean the sludge as per the recommended procedure.
28. Contact of sludge to the skin may be irritating. The supervisor of the work should ensure
that all the workers use skin ointment/ coconut oil.
29. The workers should be advised about the slippery surface of the tank bottom and should
work carefully to avoid falling
30. While working in sump tank, safety belt and breathing apparatus set (as the case may be)
shall be used
31. The supervisor shall always be present at the work site as curious onlookers

32. After completion of days work, head count of the entire contractor’s worker should be
tallied with the worker’s entry gate pass.
33. Sufficient light shall be provided inside the tank to avoid any accident.
34. It must be ensured that electrical supply of Sump tank motor etc along with control power
supply of safety control circuit (Tank. Level indicator/ Switch etc) is kept in off condition
during the entire work.
35. Prior to commencement of the work on HT equipment/cables, it be ensured the
equipment isolated from AC and DC power supplies. HT cables be earthed and discharged
using a discharge rod before commencement of work.

Electrical Signature Analysis.

same filed away using soft files/emery paper.
7 The pressure gel of arrangement in the panel tested and spring
tension is ensured.
8 Closing of the switch tried with the handle and found
satisfactory.
9 H.T. fuses and the fuse bases checked and found satisfactory.
10 Interlocks (electrical/Mechanical) are in place and working.
