Fluid Mechanics MN141232

This document provides an overview of a Fluid Mechanics course. The objectives are for students to understand fluid properties, concepts in hydrostatics, fluid kinematics, and fluid dynamics. Students will learn about viscosity, pressure, buoyancy forces, flow visualization, and equations like Euler's and Bernoulli's. Evaluation includes homework, quizzes, midterm and final exams. The course covers topics over 16 weeks, with lectures on fluid statics, stability, the continuity equation, and an introduction to Navier-Stokes equations. References include several fluid mechanics textbooks.

FLUID MECHANICS

MN141232

Credit (SKS): 3

Semester: III

Lecturers: Dr. Ir. I Ketut Suastika, M.Sc.

Teguh Putranto, ST., MT.

Objectives: • Students understand fluid properties, the difference between fluids and solids,
concept of viscosity, classification of fluid flows;

• Students understand the concept of hydrostatics and are able to apply it to

calculate forces working on submerged surfaces;

• Students understand basic concepts of fluid kinematics: acceleration in fluid

flows, stream function, continuity equation;
• Students understand basic concepts of fluid dynamics: forces working on fluid
flows, Euler's equation, Bernoulli's equation and are able to apply them to solve
practical problems; Introduction to Navier-Stokes equation.

• Students understand the concept of dimensional analysis and similitude and are
able to apply it to solve practical problems (laboratory experiments: towing test).
Evaluations: Home work, Quis, Mid semester test (UTS), End semester test (UAS)
