Format For Lab Report

This document outlines the format for partial and full lab reports. A partial report includes the title, objectives, observations/results as a table or graph, and conclusion. A full report also requires the apparatus, experimental setup, theory, procedures, calculations including things like the graph's centroid, gradient, and percentage error, as well as a discussion section to summarize the experiment, explain results and physics principles, present findings with uncertainties, analyze how variables affected each other, identify sources of error, and suggest improvements.

9. Discussion
Briefly summarize the basic idea of the experiment / introduce what had been
done (emphasize on the measurements you made) in 3 sentences (DO NOT rewrite
the procedures)

A brief explanation of the physics principle used in the experiment and later
explains how the result demonstrated a physics principle.

Provide the important results / final findings with an estimate of uncertainty (eg.
The average spring constant is 2.940.01 N/m). You may include the percentage
error as well. Then explain why the percentage error is low/high.

Explain how the independent variables affected the dependent variables, you
may use equations provided and show the dependent/independent variables.

Analysis of graph: shape of curve, for a straight line, the meaning of slope
(gradient) and intercept for the graph. You do not have to explain how they agree
if you show the numbers or refer to a Table; but do not write that values agree
without some reference.

Sources of error are offered that are consistent with the experimental results. List
at least 3 sources of errors.

You may offer suggestions for improving the experiment and be consistent with
the sources of errors. Provide at least 3 suggestions.
