Annex Iii: Harmful Substances in Packaged Form

Annex III of the regulations outlines requirements for carrying harmful substances in packaged form. It requires that packages be durably marked with the correct technical name and a marine pollutant indication. It also mandates documentation including the technical name and words "marine pollutant" as well as declarations from shippers. Substances must be properly stowed and secured to minimize hazards to the marine environment without compromising ship safety. Certain harmful substances may need to be prohibited or limited based on scientific reasons. Exceptions can be made to regulate washings overboard if ship safety is not impaired.
