About this audiobook
A NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLER
“Hypnotic and scary.” —Stephen King
“I am riveted, aghast, aroused, you name it. The rare instance when prose and plot are equally delicious.” —Lena Dunham
From bestselling author Caroline Kepnes comes a brilliant and terrifying psychological thriller that blurs the line between love and obsession in the age of social media.
When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.
There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.
As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.
A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, debut author Caroline Kepnes delivers a razor-sharp novel for our hyper-connected digital age. You is a compulsively readable page-turner that’s being compared to Gone Girl, American Psycho, and Stephen King’s Misery.
Editor's Note
Stalking you…
“Gone Girl” meets “Gossip Girl” in this extremely unnerving novel about how easy it is to become prey to stalking (or, to become a stalker yourself) in this hyper-connected digital age. It’s now a hit TV series starring Penn Badgley in a role that’s essentially an adult, much-creepier Dan Humphrey.

The narration in the audiobook is highly praised, with the voice actor bringing the character to life. While some readers prefer the show adaptation, many appreciate the detailed and raw nature of the book. It delves into themes of obsession and paranoia, leaving readers wanting more. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sep 5, 2024 Great book. Didn't even realize the show was based on a book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 7, 2023 very good . gave me the wierds a few times . the way he justifies his actions and blames the victim blew my mind. makes you think.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Wow, this is soo much more detailed than the show. I like how the show went in a different direction as a lot of what happens in the book wouldn’t translate well into a show. This was a well written story that shows Joe for what he is; a whiny, self entitled and judgemental prick! It’s amazing to me how delusional he is and how he speaks to himself about his world. I recommend you listen to or read this book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 After watching the Netflix version I was surprised at how very well written the book is.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 7, 2023 Not to be all the show is better, but the show is better ? pretty violent concepts and much more sexist and crass than the show. But still a pretty good read!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nov 7, 2023 I was very hesitant towards this book.
Don't care much for The profound language used at some points in the book. But ut does contribute to paint a picture of the main character.
Got drawn into it and when finished it did leave me feeling that I need to watch over my shoulder and get away from social media...
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 The book is better than the series definitely recommend ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Captivating. Couldn’t stop listening. True definition of glass lighting. It was disturbing but so good. Highly recommend
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Thrilled, wonder if there are men out there like Joe
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 This book caught me off guard. The raw internal monologue of Joe was thrilling but also frightening. It really made you wonder about coincidence versus planning. It made you rethink all those chance run ins with a old lover or seeing the same person at multiple places. Turn your paranoia radar way up after this read. It was a fast paced and I was left wanting more. What happens next?!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Joe and Beck have a crazy relationship that no one could see coming. The reading is well done and keeps you interested. The book has twists and turns that make you want more.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Nov 7, 2023 I loved the audio reader, the voices we done very well. The book was good, coming from someone who watched the show first, I think I enjoyed the book better. It's not to graphic, but it's got some parts that made me cringe lol
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Just different enough from the series on Netflix. Very enjoyable.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 I read this as sort of a pregame before I watch the series on Netflix. I love thrillers and this was something new to me. It was the first time I read a thriller novel with 2nd person POV. And Joe's narration, just wow. His character was so complex that it made me question myself whether it was sane or not to kind of root for him. He has that effect, I guess.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 Amazing !!! I had seen the series on Netflix and enjoyed it ! The boy was 10 times better !
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 The narrator had the perfect voice for fo tell this story!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Nov 7, 2023 A friend loaned me this book with the disclaimer that she bought it based on the back cover blurb alone. As soon as you start reading, the language is pretty brutal and it’s VERY creepy. Overall I couldn't put it down and have already sought out the follow-up, so what does that say about me? Ha. It was very twisted but I think a lot of the language was over-the-top, and while it didn’t seem out of character for Joe, it could have been taken out and he would come off just as creepy and horrible.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Nov 7, 2023 Pretty trashy and beck is a major twit and joe is beyond creepy
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Nov 7, 2023 loved it! just like the show! ive been waiting for season 2 i cant wait to start hidden bodies!
