La autora viaja en bicicleta por los templos budistas de Angkor en Cambodia (Susurro en una grieta) y en otro de los relatos, la autora se estremece ante la frágil normalidad de las calles de Sarajevo (A través de un cristal). El relato de Moscú es también un viaje al pasado comunista de la ciudad, y en el último de los relatos, la autora visita Palestina, justo al inicio de la pandemia de coronavirus.

Gunung Gede Panggrango atau yang dikenal juga dengan nama "Taman Nasional Gede Pangrango" merupakan destinasi wisata populer yang berada di kawasan Bogor, Jawa Barat. Tak heran jika waktu libur telah tiba maka kawasan taman nasional ini agar diserbu oleh para wisatawan. Umumnya para wisatawan tersebut datang dari berbagai daerah, tak terkecuali Jakarta. Mungkin karena akses dan rute perjalanannya yang tak terlalu jauh, sehingga membuat antuasiasme para warga ibu kota untuk datang berlibur sangatlah besar. Masuk sebagai salah satu tempat wisata Bogor, sehingga membuat nama gunung gede pangrango kian populer. Meskipun demikian, pada bulan Agustus 2016 pihak Balai Besar Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango menutup akses pendakian selama satu bulan lamanya. Mengapa demikian? ya, memang menurut pengelola mereka mengakui bahwa terdapat dua faktor utama yang diharuskan menutup sementara aktifitas pendakian gunung gede pangrango. Alasan tersebut diantaranya karena pihak pengelola mengakui adanya kekurangan tenaga pengawas untuk mengawasi para wisatawan pada musim tersebut, dimana pada bulan Agustus yang lalu bertepatan dengan libur Hari Raya. Kemudian alasan lainnya ialah pihak pengelola akan melakukan beberapa perbaikan terhadap fungsi ekosistem dari taman nasional ini sebagai mana mestinya. Sehingga kelak akan memudahkan dan memberikan kenyamanan terhadap para wisatawan yang datang. Seperti yang telah banyak diketahui oleh masyarakat Indonesia, bahwasanya gunung gede pangrango memiliki begitu banyak petilasan penginggalan sejarah yang dianggap sakral, oleh karena itulah gunung ini sering juga didatangi oleh banyak peziarah yang bertujuan sebagai napak tilas terhadap beberapa tokoh ataupun kejadian di massa lampau. beberapa petilasan yang sering dikunjungi antara lain seperti petilasan Pangeran Suryakencana, Puteri Jin dan Prabu Siliwangi. Selain hal tersebut, gunung gede memang terkenal pula dengan berbagai cerita mistis yang sangat kental. Beberapa cerita mistis tersebut diantaranya ialah adakalanya para pendaki yang telah sampai di Alun Alun Suryakecana sering mendengar suara dari tapak kuda yang sedang berlari. Konon masyarakat percaya jika kita mendengar suara tersebut, bahwa itulah saat Pengeran Suryakenca datang kembali ke alun-alun dan dikawah oleh para penjaga berkuda. Nama Pangeran Suryakencana dikenal oleh masyarakat sebagai putera dari Pangeran Aria Waratanudatar (pendiri kota Cianjur) yang berasal dari perkawinan dengan puteri jin. Kemudian Pangeran Suryakencana memiliki dua orang putera yaitu Prabu Sakti dan Prabu Siliwangi. Escrito em meados do século XIV o livro Viagens de Jean de Mandeville foi um dos mais difundidos em fins da Idade Média. Existem mais 250 manuscritos diferentes em diversas línguas. Para o desenvolvimento da presente pesquisa utilizamos a edição traduzida por Susani Silveira Lemos França. A obra é dividida em duas partes e narra o deslocamento do suposto cavaleiro, Jean de Mandeville, por terras orientais, mesclando o real e o imaginário. Assim, nesta comunicação, buscamos compreender o maravilhoso presente no livro, possuindo como foco, em especial, os monstros com deformidades físicas. Tais seres possuíam diferentes imperfeições, como, por exemplo, orelhas que chegam até o joelho, cabeça de cachorro, pés de cavalo, pedra no lugar dos olhos, entre outros. Em sua grande maioria essas gentes são descritas como habitantes de ilhas, entretanto, também aparecem no deserto e no continente. Utilizaremos autores entre eles, por exemplo, Jacques Le Goff (1985), Claude Kappler (1986), Ana Teresa Pollo Mendonça(2007), Miguél Ángel Ladero Quesada (2007) e outros.

Today the idea of cosmopolitanism has become widely accepted as an appropriate answer to what we now call globalization. A key reference is Kant who argues for a Recht of the world citizen, and this is normally understood as a cosmopolitan law. Apparently Kant lets the law of the world citizen be limited to a right to visit, but somehow his peace project must imply something more than just this very modest claim. Following a hint from Kant himself I take a closer look at the material aspect of cosmopolitanism, i.e. the economy of travelling, and it appears that cosmopolitanism can function as an ideology for letting possible investors look for business cases, that is, for promising places for capitalist exploitation. As an answer to such strong material processes cosmopolitanism is insufficient, both as a moral imperative and as a stipulated right. What we need is a more comprehensive political and legal perspective and the solutions they indicate. To get inspiration to this, however, we can turn to Kant again, since it turns out that he does not argue for cosmopolitanism at all, neither as a program nor as an ideology. For Kant the overall goal is perpetual peace, and the law of the world citizen only represents one subordinate element. As an answer to globalization we should thus drop the limited ideal of cosmopolitanism and follow Kant in his ambition of a threefold political constitution comprising state law, law of the people and law of the world citizen.

Getting home is a narrative of lived experiences sharing time, space and place with some homeless people in Philadelphia (USA) over three days during the summer of 2013. The story is necessarily reflective and autoethnographic in its conception but also creative and stylised in its presentation and structure. Dialogue becomes the primary vehicle to lead the reader through phases of the journey, connecting episodes and generating a sense of presence with the main characters. Through rich description, it is the actions, beliefs and physical outcomes for these people, which builds the learning messages of this research. In conclusion, whilst the initial motive for writing the narrative was to foster empathy for the homeless, an invitation to see life through their eyes, it is the very opportunity to tell, interpret, report faithfully and vividly James’ experiences that’s affords the educational sense-making and importantly, the communication of these experiences to share and learn from. Through composing and articulating Getting home in his own unique way, James has been analysing facets of social confidence, friendship, overseas travel and a sense of being a foreigner, independence, self-reliance and decision making – all as a genuine man of the Outdoors.

Jan Wampler: The Poet and People’s Architect (the full article in English)

Architects are usually in the back seat of the economic world. Developers tell us to design something we do so without question. Architects or urban designers should be the people looking out for the physical environment. We have a greater responsibility than just the economics, and as such, we should be more out-spoken about what is being built…The new architect of the future has to be a more outspoken and creative leader who is considerably more involved in all decisions that might effect our built environment. Governments should be relying on our collective wisdom as much as builders rely on our technical expertise. We haven’t gotten to that point yet, but it should be our goal

For the past four decades, Jan Wampler’s approach to architecture has inspired generations of architects to think about their role in improving the lives of the true clients – the people – rather than simply fulfilling the capitalistic demand of the real estate developer.  Throughout his professional practice, he has exemplified the way in which architects can and should contribute to positive change not only in terms of physical intervention, but also in the livelihood, health, culture and economic condition of the local people for whom his architecture serves.

His work, words, and ardent activism always express on simple yet powerful message: to make the world a better place, architects should not “be in the back seat of the economic world.”  In his career as an educator at the front line of urban design education, Wampler has advocated humanistic methods in order to achieve a better understanding of cultures and communities caught between an attachment to traditional values and the need to adapt those values to the external forces brought on by an increasingly globalizing world.  For him, the architect should be the link between planners, builders and community leaders; and to that end, the architect’s knowledge should go beyond means and methods of construction to include the community itself, allowing them to advocate for what really matters.

Throughout his forty-year career as an architect, educator, poet, philosopher, and activist, Jan Wampler has received numerous awards.  Needless to say, his 1968 Progressive Architecture (P/A) Award, conceived long before the famous Pritzker Prize, is the seminal benchmark of his career as a pioneer in architecture and urban design.  The P/A Award – an annual award that recognizes exciting architects furthering the progress of the discipline – reconfirmed his reputation again in 1972 for the sophisticated design of 110 Monticello Avenue.  Wampler has also received a nomination for the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion, considered the most prestigious award bestowed on an architect, and was also honored as the 1999 recipient of the ACSA’s highly esteemed Distinguished Professor Award, which recognizes supreme excellence in architectural education.  Wampler’s own architectural education began at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his architecture degree in 1963, followed by a graduate degree in urban design from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, under the auspices of such modernist legends as Sert, Soltan, Tyrwhitt, Maki, Sekler, Gideon, and most importantly Aldo van Eyck, whose ideas on an architect’s social responsibility have had a lasting impact.  Wamler has lectured extensively, holding honorary and visiting professorial positions at institutions all over the world, including the University of Hong Kong, the University of Sydney, Tsingua University, and the University of California, Berkeley to name a few.

Jan Wampler has been a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since the late 1970’s, and it was here that I met him as a student over a decade ago.  Today, as colleague, continuing mentee, and friend, I sincerely cannot find the words to describe the honor of writing this essay on his behalf.  Jan’s work and writings have inspired me and many of my colleagues to think about architecture critically with the goal of not only maintaining its respect among other disciplines in today’s highly capitalistic system, but also to enhance its often-forgotten ability to contribute to society as a whole.  Jan has always reminded me that we have only have ourselves to blame if others do not take our profession seriously.  “The medical profession was built upon a history of knowledge over a period of time, but it has always maintained the goal of helping people.  We don’t have a goal like that, and that is where we’ve gone wrong,” says Jan.

When I first started learning about architecture, I too naively thought that excellence was equated with distinctiveness – and to be distinctive and architect would have to invent something from scratch.  Unfortunately, as I have also learned through personal experience that when distinctiveness is created for its own sake, the excitement often dies quickly, giving way to architecture that is soon looked upon as hackneyed, mundane, and obsolete.  As an advocate for architecture based on local knowledge, many of Jan Wampler’s works might first appear to be “conventional,” particularly at a point in time where the discipline is dominated by computerized form-creating tools.  Yet, in the past four decades, Jan’s work has not only stood the test of time, but has become a teaching tool for how architecture can achieve transcendence through its use by the community rather than though its imagery alone.  Personally, I credit my architecture education under Jan’s mentorship with my current academic career studying history and anthropology.  While Jan would probably never admit that he is as much an anthropologist as he is an architect, I am always reminded by his teaching that regardless of what I do for a living, I will always be an architect – not because I was trained as one, but because like him I hold paramount the goal of making a better living environment for all.

Joannes Leo Africanus, (c. 1494 – c. 1554?) (or al-Hasan ibn Muhammad al-Wazzan al-Fasi, Arabic:حسن ابن محمد الوزان الفاسي) was an Andalusian Amazigh Moorish diplomat and author who is best known for his book Descrittione dell’Africa (Description of Africa) describing the geography of North Africa.

Women used to take
photographs from the birth of the medium, and travel was one point of
interest. During the sixties –when only a few women actually travelled–
some of them used photographic portraits (made by professionals) to make pictorial compositions
of imaginary journeys, joined in albums. Some women travelled as professional photographers
to work in far places. At the turn of the century some amateur photographers –middle
or high class– took pictures on their journeys to Venice or Florence, but they were also attracted
by the life around home, and they captured traditions and customs vanishing in front of their

This article offers the first analysis of the Rolin Madonna (ca. 1435) in relation to Jan van Eyck’s trip to Castile and Granada (1429). The space and the architectural typology in the painting reveal Hispanic influences which are only explicable through first-hand experience by the artist. These elements were not fully understood by his Flemish peers, who adapted them to local use. This study allows us to re-position Van Eyck and Chancellor Rolin’s interests in line with the plurality of artistic models and the tensions between the existing hegemonies and the multiculturalism of the major global powers during the Early Modern period. //
Este artículo analiza por primera vez la Madonna Rolin (ca. 1435) en relación con el viaje de Jan van Eyck a Castilla y Granada (1429). El espacio y la tipología arquitectónica del cuadro denotan influencias hispanas explicables únicamente a través de la experiencia in situ del artista, elementos que sus colegas flamencos no comprendieron y readaptaron a sus usos locales. Como consecuencia, esta investigación permite resituar los intereses de Van Eyck y del canciller Rolin en línea con la pluralidad de modelos y con las tensiones entre hegemonías y multiculturalidad de las grandes potencias europeas en la temprana Edad Moderna.

Kemudian pada Oktober-November 2015, puncak gunung merbabu sempat terbakar. Kabarnya kerusakan diakibatkan oleh kebakaran tersebut cukup luas, namun setelah kerja keras para relawan akhirnya api bisa dipadamkan. Sebagai gunung populer yang berada di pulau Jawa, khususnya di daerah Jawa Tengah, maka tak diherankan jika wisata gunung merbabu selalu ramai diserbu oleh para pendaki, terlebih kala waktu libur tiba. Bagi para pendaki pemula seperti saya, rasanya untuk mencoba menaklukkan gunung merbabu sangat direkomendasikan. Memiliki ketinggian puncak sekitar 3.142 mdpl dengan kontur jalur pendakian yang beragam, akan tetapi terbilang tidaklah cukup extream. Di tambah dengan panorama alam yang sangat menakjubkan, seperti sabana, hutan homogen dan bukit-bukit yang memiliki hamparan rumput yang luas. Ada sedikit mitos yang terdapat pada gunung merbabu, para masyarakat sekitar meyakini bahwa terdapat sebuah kerajaan yang terkubur didalam perut gunung merbabu dan juga gunung merapi. Kerajaan tersebut memiliki ikatan dengan kerajaan mataram kuno. Selain itu, masih terdapat mitos lainnya yang menyelimuti gunung merbabu, yaitu terdapat sebuah pasar mahkluk halus yang sangat ramai, jika diperupamakan layaknya pasar pada umumnya. Namun yang menjadi pembedanya ialah mahkluk halus atau jin dan sebangsanya yang melakukan proses jual-beli. Akan tetapi tak perlu dirisaukan, terlepas dari mitos-mitos tersebut jikalau kamu ataupun para pendaki

Las instituciones con que la plutocracia domina economía, política e ideología de la  humanidad, se derrumban, al inicio del siglo XXI.  Caen, bajo su propio peso.  Ante ello, los pueblos del mundo se unifican en torno al propósito común de diseñar el futuro próspero, cooperativo y solidario que se merecen.  Diseñan la sociedad deseable, con un escenario ubicado a mil años de distancia, en el futuro.  Transitan, del 2008 al 2019, un proceso acelerado de transición.

Το βιβλίο αυτό είναι το πιο αγνοημένο και ίσως το πιο παραγκωνισμένο βιβλίο του συγγραφέα. Συγκρινόμενο με τον όγκο και την ευρύτητα του ιστορικού του έργου, δεν αποτελεί παρά σημειώσεις πάνω σε συμβάντα της περιπετειώδους ζωής του. Δεν προσθέτει τίποτε στο επιστημονικό πεδίο του συγγραφέα που είναι η Ιστορία και η ιστορική έρευνα. Παρόλο που αποτελείται από μικρές ιστορίες τύπου αφηγήσεων, δεν συνιστά τον καμβά μιας συγκεκριμένης ιστορικής έρευνας σαν αυτές που διεξήγαγε επί μακρόν ο συγγραφέας. 
Το βιβλίο αυτό παραμένει λοιπόν άγνωστο και όσες προσπάθειες κι αν έκανα για να πείσω κάποιον έλληνα εκδότη να κυκλοφορήσει μία μετάφρασή του στα ελληνικά, πήγαν εις μάτην. Δεν δέχθηκε κανείς λέγοντας ότι δεν επρόκειτο να πουληθεί: και με το δίκαιο τους. Δυσκολεύτηκα να βρω ακόμη και το πρωτότυπο επειδή υπήρχε μία και μοναδική έκδοση από την οποία και μετέφρασα.

In un duplice gioco di rispecchiamenti e sovrapposizioni, da un lato le voci dei viaggiatori si coagulano in forme stereotipe che fanno da presupposto nel giudizio e nei comportamenti della diplomazia di Londra, dall’altro la visione del Mezzogiorno si fissa non tanto per ciò che essa effettivamente è, ma per ciò che risulta funzionale sia agli orizzonti di immaginario della società anglosassone sia alle strategie internazionali della politica inglese.

Setelah sekian lama merencanakan untuk menulis pengalamam kami (saya dan istri)
melakukan perjalanan ke Bangkok, akhirnya pada tahun 2009 selesailah buku panduan
perjalanan singkat Kota Bangkok ini. Proses penulisan buku ini memakan waktu lebih dari
12 bulan. Dimulai pada Bulan Oktober 2007, sekembali kami dari perjalanan ke Thailand
yang pertama. Alasan kami untuk menuangkan pengalaman perjalanan ini di antaranya
adalah karena minimnya buku panduan yang tersedia dalam Bahasa Indonesia, khususny
mengenai Thailand dan Bangkok. Kadang pada saat mengunjungi toko-toko buku kami
sengaja mencari buku yang membahas mengenai tempat-tempat wisata dalam Bahasa
Indonesia, dan ternyata masih sangat kurang. Buku berbahasa Indonesia mengenai tempattempat
wisata di dalam negeri pun masih kurang. Rasanya ini menjadi tantangan bagi para
pengemar hobi jalan-jalan untuk menuangkan pengalamannya dalam bentuk panduan.
Buku ini kami susun setelah 4 kali melakukan kunjungan ke Bangkok. Kunjungan pertama
kami ke Bangkok, kami rasa belum cukup sebagai bahan penulisan panduan ini. Untuk itu,
sebagai salah satu alternatuif untuk melengkapi buku panduan ini dan juga menyakurkan
hobi maka saya dan istri sepakat untuk kembali mengunjungi Kota Malaikat ini untuk
kedua kalinya. Dalam kunjungan kedua ini kami benar-benar memperhatikan secara detail
aspek yang akan kami jadikan sumber penulisan. Beberapa foto juga kami siapkan untuk
memudahkan pembaca mengenali tempat yang kami maksudkan. Meski demikian, masih
ada saja yang terlewatkan dan membutuhkan tambahan informasi. Untunglah, kantor
dimana pekerjaan saya bekerja, mengirimkan saya dan beberapa rekan untuk melakukan
studi banding. Pada saat kunjungan tersebutlah, saya sempatkan meliput beberapa hal yang
masih dibutuhkan untuk melengkapi buku ini.
Semua pengalaman itu ditambah dengan informasi dari berbagai sumber, baik di internet
maupun terbitan-terbitan lokal di Bangkok, kami susun menjadi satu panduan untuk
memperkaya pengetahuan anda. Kami menyadari pentingnya hal ini, karena kami sendiri
merasakan betapa perlunya panduan yang jelas dan detail. Khususnya bagi para penggemar
wisata mandiri. Bagi anda yang senang melakukan perjalanan wisata bersama kelompok
tur, buku ini juga tidak ada salahnya anda koleksi sebagai bahan referensi. Sudah tidak
menjadi rahasia lagi, bahwa operator tur terkadang menyarankan atau membawa peserta tur
mengunjungi toko-toko tertentu yang memberikan komisi. Dengan buku ini setidaknya

anda bisa mendapatkan gambaran layak atau tidaknya anda membeli barang di toko
tersebut.
Bagi penggemar wisata mandiri, buku ini kami harapkan bisa memenuhi keinginan anda
akan informasi yang detail mengenai Bangkok. Rute perjalanan mandiri, hotel kelas
menengah, jenis transportasi umum yang digunakan, dan lokasi wisata yang unik dapat
anda pilih sendiri dengan disesuaikan anggaran yang tersedia.

Dos suizos, dos libros, una única obsesión: la explotación del “oro negro” de la selva amazónica, en la época del auge cauchero en el Oriente de Bolivia. Con apenas unos meses de diferencia, Franz Ritz y Ernst Leutenegger trabajaron en la misma barraca gomera durante la primera década del siglo XX, y ambos publicaron luego sus recuerdos en su país natal. Son estos relatos que, traducidos por primera vez al español, nos propone descubrir aquí Lorena Córdoba. La mirada más entusiasta de Ritz y la visión más melancólica de Leutenegger evocan ambas tópicos de la fiebre cauchera en la selva boliviana: la dura vida en las barracas; la ley del más fuerte en un mundo donde el Estado está ausente; los enganches tramposos, las deudas hereditarias, la explotación de los indígenas. Sin embargo, estos relatos permiten ir más allá de los clichés y matizar en gran parte las visiones en blanco y negro sobre esta época crucial para la economía boliviana, la paulatina incorporación del Oriente al país y el destino también de los pueblos indígenas amazónicos. Con su lectura, la Historia gana en humanidad, en matices enriquecedores, en profundidad y credibilidad.

El viaje, en sus múltiples formas y concepciones, ha atravesado todas las sociedades, occidentales y no-occidentales, y todos los grupos humanos desde lo colectivo y lo individual. En la sociedad contemporánea factores como la globalización, el capitalismo, la urbanización, el desarrollo de tecnologías de comunicación y la relativa facilidad en el acceso a medios de transporte hacen que los movimientos poblacionales se tornen más frecuentes, con diversad de motivos y objetivos. A su vez, en este marco, emerge en los sujetos la necesidad de generar una identidad propia y de individualizarse mediante la elección de modos de vida específicos.
Algunos individuos eligen el viaje como su modo de vida, se desarraigan de un territorio fijo para desplazarse de forma semi o no estructurada por tiempo indefinido, financiándose mientras viajan y sin otra proyección a futuro más que la de seguir viajando. Su elección es considerada un proyecto de vida individual que integra prácticas, disposiciones, apariencias y discursos específicos.
El siguiente trabajo busca entender cuáles son los discursos y prácticas asociados a este tipo de viajeros. Se abordan tres ejes en particular: los elementos subjetivos que configuran sus elecciones, las prácticas y representaciones respecto al espacio y el tiempo, y las vivencias y representaciones del trabajo y la subsistencia. La investigación realizada es de carácter etnográfico, lo cual implicó trabajo de campo con los viajeros en los lugares que ellos frecuentan, tanto en Uruguay como en otros países.

Gunung Slamet seperti yang telah banyak diketahui, bahwasanya merupakan sebuah gunung dengan memiliki puncak tetinggi di Jawa Tengah. Bahkan puncak slamet tercatat pula menduduki posisi ke-2 setelah puncak Semeru, sebagai gunung tertinggi di Pulau Jawa.

Grounded in scholarly analysis and personal reflection, and drawing on a multi-sited and multi-method research design, Momentous Mobilities disentangles the meanings attached to temporary travels and stays abroad and offers empirical evidence as well as novel theoretical arguments to develop an anthropology of mobility. Both focusing specifically on how various societies and cultures imagine and value boundary-crossing mobilities “elsewhere” and drawing heavily on his own European lifeworld, the author examines momentous travels abroad in the context of education, work, and spiritual quests and the search for a better quality of life.

The article retraces the locations of E. M. Forster's novels (Italy, England, India) and seeks to establish their role in the context of conventional geography of homosexual desire at the turn of the 19th and the 20th century. Published in the collection "New Aspects of E. M. Forster."
