Public education in the U.S. is now facing increasing competition from private educational initiatives especially in the virtual domain. In Pennsylvania public education is partially funded by the State, based upon student enrollment and attendance. The increasing numbers of two groups of students, those who are homebound and those who are homeschooled, are adversely affecting the monetary resources available to districts . Homebound students fall into two subsets. The larger is composed of students who have been expelled for disciplinary reasons or inappropriate social behavior and are not permitted to be in school. Districts must provide them with a free education until the age of 17. The second subset consists of stude nts that are homebound due to medical reasons. There is an overriding need to develop systems which prevent system failures and reduce the effects of system breakdowns. To achieve this the maintenance system needs to be constructed around process control and monitoring systems which are supported by both enabling technologies and methodologies. This paper adopts the TRIZ methodology to derive solutions based on the 40 inventive principles for a problem relating to a yoghurt bottle filling process.

Abstract: Lean Thinking is a highly evolved method of managing an organization to improve the productivity, efficiency and quality of its products or services. The core principle it uses is that no work should be done unless it is going to create customer value.

This paper presents a basic process for solving business and management problems using a combination of classical TRIZ and additional techniques to organize a systematic approach to all phases of the problem solving process: from problem documentation to idea evaluation and assessment. We specifically focus on extending TRIZ with Root Conflict Analysis, which allows us to extract and map the contradictions arising in business systems and their environment that are the root cause of certain problems. To illustrate the successful application of TRIZ for Business a case study is included.

The paper focuses on the TRIZ community, formed around a shared interest in the “Theory of Inventive Problem Solving” as developed by Genrich S. Altshuller during the 1960s and’70s in the Sviet Union. As a theory, TRIZ reached its popularity peak in the 1970s and ’80s, when many local TRIZ communities had been formed in different corners of the Soviet Union. These communities, consisting of both professional engineers and amateurs of inventorism, shared not only a rational algorithm-based approach toward innovation, but also a particular type of socialist morality. For many TRIZ adherents, this theory became not only a professional tool but rather a philosophy of life.
During the Perestroika period and the early 1990s, the increased level of outmigration from the (former) USSR helped to spread the TRIZ approach to innovation far beyond the confines of the Soviet Union. The author places particular emphasis on the tension between the philosophical logic underlying TRIZ and the work ethic characteristic of the community members and demonstrates how moral implications of the theory became a ground for internal conflicts within the community under conditions of capitalist economy. The article is based on ethnographic data collected in 2010 in St.Petersburg.

Bu çalısmada, dokuma makinelerindeki hali hazırda kullanılan atkı atma sistemleri incelenmis ve atkı atma sistemi üzerinde öngörü de bulunulmustur. Öngörü için yaratıcı problem yada sorun çözme teorisinin araçları kullanılmıstır. “Yenilikçi/Yaratıcı Problem Çözme Teorisi” yeni kusak ürün ve ürün yöntemlerinin gelistirilmesi için güçlü ve yapısal yöntemler sunmaktadır. Bu yöntemlerden “Teknik Sistemleri Gelisim Egilimi” gelecek teknolojilerinin sistematik olarak yaratılmasını/bulunmasını saglamaktadır. Sözü edilen yöntemin atkı atma sistemine uygulanmasıyla elde edilen çarpıcı sonuçlar verilmis ve tartısılmıstır.

Patentler, yenilikçiliği ve kolay erişebilirliği nedeniyle endüstriyel araştırma ve ürün geliştirme için önemli bir bilgi kaynağıdır. Bu bilgi kaynağının yenilikçi/yenileşim tasarımlarda nasıl kullanılabilineceğini bilmek çok daha önemlidir. Bu çalışmada kısaca TRIZ olarak isimlendirilen yaratıcı/yenilikçi
problem çözme yöntemi araçlarından bazılarının kullanımıyla bir patentin kapsamını aşma tasarımının elde edilmesine yönelik olarak bir problemin çözümünde izlenen işlemler dizisinden bahsedilecektir. Hatta TRIZ’de kendi yenilikçi problem çözme yöntemi araçlarını belirlemek için dünyanın en yaratıcı patentlerini içeren geniş bir çalışmaya dayanmaktadır. Patent kapsamını aşma ile yapılacak olan tasarım, özgün patentteki tasarımdan farklı olması gerektiğinden işlev ve yapı grafiğinin değiştirilmesi demektir. Etkili bir biçimde patent kapsamını aşma tasarımı için tek başına ilgili teknoloji konusunda uzman olmak yeterli değildir. Bununla birlikte patent konusunda, patent kanunları konusunda ve yenilikçi problem çözme konusunda bilgi sahibi olmak gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada da, sistematik ve bütünleşmiş bir patent kapsamını aşma tasarım yaklaşımının uygulanabilirliğini ve etkinliğini göstermek için, var olan bir patent, patent etrafında dolanma tasarımına bir örnek olarak seçilmiş ve daha sonra yenilikçi tasarım TRIZ ile patent kapsamını aşma tasarımı ve patent ihlali kararlarının kuralları dikkate alınarak elde edilmiştir

Abstract: In this research, a specific category of construction technologies, e.g., formwork, is selected for case study. 40 invention principles and 39 engineering parameters were applied with contradiction matrix to find out the “improving ” and “deteriorating ” parameters for a design case. By consulting the contradiction matrix, innovative principles can be found. It is concluded that TRIZ provides an effective approach for improvement of construction problem solving in terms of time and cost. Moreover, the principles identified by TRIZ also assist the construction technology researchers in searching direction for technology advancement. Forty innovative principles of TRIZ are used in this article to analyze the patents of formwork engineering in the construction industry in Taiwan and to investigate current innovative trend, besides, contradiction matrix is used to investigate the innovative concept of operability and automation demand of formwork.

W artykule przedstawiono problematykę zarządzania wiedzą w procesie pracy, a więc pozyskiwania, selekcji i wykorzystywania informacji w praktyce zawodowej, w celu generowania nowych rozwiązań i pomysłów – innowacji. Jako jedną z metod wspomagającą skuteczne wykorzystywanie wiedzy w procesie generowania innowacji opisano metodologię TRIZ, nazywaną Teorią Rozwiązywania Innowacyjnych Zadań. Metoda TRIZ najczęściej wykorzystywana jest przez duże firmy komercyjne, może jednak stosowana być również w sektorze niekomercyjnym, np. przez uczelnie wyższe – uniwersytety i politechniki, a także biblioteki.

The purpose of the research carried out was to identify ways in which tools and methodologies from Theory of Inventive Problem-Solving (TRIZ) to solving gaps within the Design-To-Cost (DTC) strategy in product concept development. The aim was to develop an implementation framework for DTC improving product cost and at the same time increase the product innovation. The research paper review the TRIZ methodology that have the potential for cost reduction, followed by a discussion of the DTC strategies that commonly practice in the various industries. The proposed new DTC implementation framework with TRIZ tools is establish and the research paper concludes with a case study using the new framework.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore that cost reduction in the product system
does not support the development of innovation. This contradiction becomes a great challenge for
any type of industry in order to improve the competitive level. This research focused on the
mechanism of cost reduction using Design to Cost (DTC) strategy to achieve cost improvement and
innovation. The contradiction was solved using the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ)
that was integrated into the Design to Cost Innovation framework. Two types of cases were
introduced in this research that highlighted the application and the outcome of TRIZ in DTC
framework. From the case studies, the results show that the magnitude of cost improvement and
innovation achieved is more than the application of conventional tools in the DTC strategy. These
change the limitation of mindset in cost reduction without compromise or trade-off, and open up
new possibility of research for reducing cost in processes and services for various industries.

There are different methods for evaluation of architectural design. Novelty, utility and
contribution to the society are relevant concerns to be considered in such methods.
Most of methods, do not address novelty sufficiently.
In TRIZ theory (Theory of inventive problem solving) in order to describe novelty, five
levels of innovation have been defined. These levels have been recognized by
investigation on thousands of registered patents. Levels have been defined based on
the quantity and quality of contradictions that have been solved in patents. Also the
theory has considered required domains of technology and knowledge and required
number of trial and error for solving problems in each level.
This study aims to investigate about adaptability of these five l
architectural design projects. Several aspects and approaches including FPM
(function/principle/market) model, level model for art, system changes, solved
contradiction and required knowledge were compared.
In conclusion a formula for calculating levels of innovation in architectural projects
was proposed. The proposed formula comprehensively measures the innovation levels
of building system and subsystems.

Laser sail propulsion is considered as one of the most promising methods for interstellar flight. It uses a powerful laser system positioned within the solar system and a spacecraft with a large ultra thin laser sail, which is propelled by the photon pressure of the laser. Robert Forward proposed a staged-sail concept, in principle making a deceleration at the target star system and even a roundtrip possible. However, Forwards concept has two significant drawbacks. First, the required laser power levels are extremely high and second, the pointing requirements for an eventual deceleration at the target star system are prohibitive. This paper presents approaches how novel concepts for overcoming these two drawbacks can be created. This is either done by categorizing existing concepts from the literature in order to find optimal combinations or by the adoption of existing concepts to a new context. We use TRIZ, which provides a set of tools that are well-fitted to solve this type of problem. Furthermore, patterns are used to instantiate the rather abstract TRIZ principles by adding context information. As a result, attractive possibilities to remedy the laser sail propulsion concept are identified, e.g. the use of the gravitational lens of Jupiter, the fractionated spacecraft concept and the separation of cargo and crew. Our aim is to investigate these concepts in further detail in the future.

El diseño es una actividad comprehensiva, y a menudo surgen cuestionamientos respecto a la posibilidad de enseñarlo. Metodologías específicas que aplican a etapas determinadas o casos particulares han sido desarrolladas con éxito, pero un problema importante surge cuando se trata de un problema abierto que requiere análisis y juicio comprehensivo. Este trabajo presenta  una visión general del proceso de diseño. Las metodologías más ampliamente utilizadas como guía a través de las diferentes etapas del proceso se analizan sucintamente, y se hacen notar sus principales ventajas y limitaciones. Se enfatiza el hecho de que todas estas metodologías contienen huecos que pasan, a menudo, desapercibidos. Este hecho, a veces inducido por los mismos profetas de las metodologías, puede ser causa de fallas críticas en su aplicación, principalmente en países en desarrollo con limitada experiencia colectiva en el campo. Otra causa común de falla en el proceso de diseño y en la materialización de sus productos, es el hecho de que en países con economías en transición existe poco soporte de organizaciones industriales, tecnológicas y científicas a lo largo del proceso. En estas circunstancias, los huecos en las metodologías se vuelven, a veces, muy difíciles de cubrir. El artículo aborda estos problemas para clarificarlos, y presenta algunas propuestas de solución.  Se considera que esta visión holística podría ser útil para mejorar el entrenamiento en esta compleja, pero fascinante disciplina.

While several studies have developed theories and models to manage branding activities, the potential contribution of the TRIZ theory to develop a comprehensive brand evaluation system has not been explored yet. The purpose of this paper is to fill this gap, by combining the main contents from well-established brand-related models (Keller's brand building stages, brand equity pyramid, brand report card and balanced scorecard) together with the TRIZ principles. The development of this new brand evaluation system is conceptually illustrated, with the support of one example.

This research considers the approach and development made in a proposal of innovation software that integrates synergistically a virtual generator system. It is an instrument of design, analysis, simulation and interfaces of manufacture, relies on with the functions SIM and the TRIZ methodology tools. The function of the software uses libraries, an extensive base of knowledge, developed and verified previous cases. The reuse of existing design elements is a set of reusable knowledge that have proven their effectiveness if appropriate inventive principles are used. The TRIZ methodology is a very propitious tool to invent innovative and functional products, it has several tools to assist in the innovation process.

One of the most important tasks in robust design is to select an appropriate system output response in the study. The quality of this selection will greatly affect the effectiveness of the robust design project. Currently, this selection process is more like art than science. By using TRIZ and Axiomatic Design principle, several new approaches to enhance robust design are developed. These approaches enable us to select the appropriate system output response in a systematic fashion. The approach described in this paper was successfully applied and verified in a case study in a large automotive company. Adopting complexity concept in product design provides ability to manage existing
resources and to meet the rapid development of market demand from existing and future markets.
Currently, the best approach in managing product complexity is through optimization and trade-off.
Both methods are considered as a constraint to product development and innovation that evolves
alongside with new market trend. Complexity Planning is proposed, with the integration of strategic
tools of TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving). Through a case study, the guideline helps the
designer to develop a design concept that considers commonality and trend of system evolution as a
preventive initiative to enhance better complexity management within the product life cycle.

The design of innovative products is an important topic in both the design and management fields. Firms are faced with the challenge of designing innovative products that have high quality and short product life cycle in the same time, while also addressing the needs of end users and create value for them in the context of functionality, economics, ergonomics, aesthetics, among other factors. Researchers developed many creative approaches to design innovative products with these requirements. Such methods start with demand and well-organized problem definition [1–4].

Lean Thinking is widely accepted as a philosophy or technique to eliminate waste from processes and thereby deliver exactly what the customer wants, as quickly as possible. The “value and waste” perspective is created through a value stream mapping exercise, predominantly focused on quicker value generation through waste elimination. There is however, scope to enhance value stream mapping such that the focus on value enhancement is increased. In this context, there are several techniques associated with TRIZ that can be beneficial. Function-based thinking and Ideality can help in creating an improved understanding of value (and thereby waste). The food processing industry has been an innovation intensive domain for a long time. However,
when analyzing the nature of the industrial organization of this industry we surprisingly noticed that
there was an important gap between R&D and marketing activities, on one side and industrial
developments activities on the other side particularly in the SMEs. We believe that the latest
developments in engineering design research may bring some benefits to the food processing industry.
TRIZ and C-K are two very different approaches that have already been successfully used in the food
industry. In this paper we present an attempt to combine the two methods in order to provide a
methodological framework that allows a more efficient use of the two methods. We propose a
theoretical reflection on the use of these two very different approaches and propose an original
interpretation of TRIZ within the paradigm of the C-K theory

—In industrial projects, various techniques and methodologies are employed to improve the productivity by implementing better design and alternatives before the starting of the project. This study proposes a methodology which is an integration of enhanced FAST (combination of FAST-Function Analysis System Technique & TRIZ-Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) and 40 inventive principles with brainstorming.
