Background Choriocarcinoma is an aggressive neoplasm arising in the body of the uterus. The disease normally spreads to lung and brain. Case Report A case of malignant trophoblastic disease with brain metastasis, raised intra cranial pressure and small bowel metastasis presenting with acute abdomen is reported. Conclusions Malignant transformation in a hydatidiform mole is rare event. Involvement of gastrointestinal tract is rarer even in presence of disseminated disease. Surgery is the treatment of choice for gastrointestinal complications.

Using a sample of funding proposals submitted to an American venture capital firm, we assess whether solicitation characteristics predict successful acquisition of venture funding. We improve on prior literature by a) using a large sample (722 proposals) of known representativeness and b) exploring the theoretical link between venture investment decisions and both solicitation characteristics and the contents of associated business planning artifacts. We find that social ties are critical in attaining venture funding. Conditional on their existence, some solicitation and team attributes help cue venture capitalists to valuable opportunities.

Different types of builing stones have been macro-scopically and petrographically characterized at the ancient city of Sagalassos (SW Turkey). The natural building stones include limestone, conglomerate, breccia, marble, travertine, granite and sand-to siltstone of different qualities. The provenance of most of the building stones may be related to local lithological units, both in the immediate area of the city and on its territory. Also, some stone types were clearly imported from considerable distance. Throughout the history of the city, local beige and pink good quality limestone remained the most important building stone. Both the high quality white limestone from the territory of the city and the marbles imported from a distance of 250 km, represent only a small fraction of the total amount of building stones used. While the use of the white limestone can be considered to form a clear but limited trend from the Trajanic period (98–117 AD) onwards, the import of the marbles must be considered as a rare event. The selection of building stone went hand in hand with the appreciation for structural strength and suitability for carving complex architectural decoration, together with the desire to obtain a polychrome architecture.

The somatosensor functions of small-diameter nerve fibres were tested on the lower and upper extremities in nine patients with anorexia nervosa, ten patients with bulimia nervosa and ten control subjects, by analysing warmth, cold, and pain thresholds. To test large-diaeter nerve fibres, the vibration threshold was also measured, Both patient groups had markedly elevated pain thresholds compared with the control subjects. In contrast, warmth and cold thresholds were only suggestively elevated while vibration thresholds were not at all increased in the patients. A distal-proximal pattern of somatosensory deficients, suggestive of peripheral polyneuropathy, was not observed. Hence, a peripheral polyneuropathy affecting small or large afferent fibres as a consequence of an eating disorder seems to be a rare event.
