UNE INSCRIPTION INEDITE CONCERNANT LES DESCENDANTS DE MAREȘ BAJESCU DECOUVERTE A LA SUITE D’UNE PERIEGESE DANS LE POINT «BARDICEA», QUARTIERRACOVITA, VILLE DE MIOVENI, DEPARTEMENT D'ARGEȘ

Le 13 septembre 2020, suite à une périégèse réalisée à Conțești, commune de Davidești, département d’Argeș, dans le point «Bârdicea», appartenant administrativement au quartier Racovița, ville de Mioveni, périmètre divisé administrativement aussi avec le village Valea Stânii, commune Țițești, département d’Argeș, a été découverte une inscription exécuté sur de la pierre d'Albești. Très probablement, le bloc de pierre contenant l'inscript ion a été encastré dans un mur de l'une fontaines, qui indique qu'il y avait une cour aristocratique (de boyard) à proximité.
L’inscription sur pierre (Pisania) a été incluse dans le Lapidarium
Du Musée du Département d'Argeș. D'après le contenu du texte corroboré pard'autres sources, il apparaît qu'elle a eu comme commanditaire le sénéchal (postelnic) Constantin Băjescu, l'arrière - petit - fils du grand ban Mareș Băjescu et qu'elle a été écrite lors de la construction d'un édifice (probablement une fontaine), pendant l'une des deux règnes valaques de Nicolae Mavrocordat, entre1715 dec. 25/1716 jan. 5 – 1716 nov. 3/14; 1719 mars 1/12 ‒ 1728 a. nov. 4. D'un point de vue généalogique, on apprend que le sénéchal (postelnic) Constantin Băjescu a été marié avec Smaranda, la fille du chancelier (logofăt) Neagu, personnages sur lesquels nous n'avons pas encore d'autres informations. La découverte confirme l'existence d’une cour aristocratique (de boyard) dans la zone, qui devrait être confirmée aussi archéologiquement et incluse dans le Répertoire Archéologique National.

20th International Symposium, Medieval and Early Modern Studies: Globalism and Meeting Foreign Worlds in the Pre-Modern Era, 2022

The 2022 symposium at the University of Arizona will focus on Globalism and Meeting the Foreign World in the Pre-Modern World. This is a broad topic, but it suggests many new reflections. We would become myopic once again if we demanded of all pre-modern scholars suddenly to think about connections between Africa and Europe or Asia when they did not exist. Global can mean many things. I just read a fascinating vol. on falconry, primarily in the Middle East, and learned that the Mamluks imported heavily gyrfalcons from Iceland and Sweden to Egypt. That's global! This symposium will simply widen our perspectives beyond traditional medieval and early modern Christian Europe and explore the wider connectivity across languages, religion, culture, and economics. Globalism is here to be understood as a broader perspective toward the foreign world, but not in the traditional approach pertaining to medieval and early modern travel literature. Instead, the question will focus on the encounter of the foreign through literary, artistic, economic, religious, or musical contacts or studies. States have always relied on their subjects' or citizens' mandatory contributions to cover the costs of public expenditures. Besides warlike occupation and exploitation, such duties, fees or taxes were often regulated by law, similar forms of binding norms and rules, or social pressure. At the same time, tacit refusal or open resistance to paying public charges can be observed in different periods of history, types of societies, political formations and places, sometimes even leading to revolutionary transformation. The aim of our cross-epochal and interdisciplinary workshop is not, however, a history of revolutions starting from tax revolts. Rather, we want to examine the different practices and forms of withholding and avoiding personal and financial duties, fees and taxes over time and among different social, professional and other groups. This includes, on the one hand, open and organized tax resistance on moral, economic and political grounds, challenging the existing legal or political order and claiming more or a different form of tax justice and redistribution, or a modification of how taxes are collected. In these cases, personal or financial duties were often seen as a form of humiliation and a marker of subordinated status. On the other hand, taxes and duties were often not resisted publically but rather avoided or evaded in secret. These terms refer to notions that distinguish between legal practices of lowering the intended burden and thus saving taxes or fees, and maneuvers that were classified as illegal or criminal. Such categorizations, though, depend on changing moral and legal perceptions and/or on class-related negotiating power.
