Polovtsians, Kumans, Kypchaks

After establishment of the Grand Mongol Empire by Genghis Khan at the beginning of the thirteen century, one of the targets
of the Mongol army under the command of Jebe and Subutai became the Desht-i Qipchaq. When the Mongol army came to
this wide area, extending from Irtysh River to the Carpathian Mountains, they encountered the Cuman-Kipchaks. As a result
of the Battle Of Kalka in 1223, the Cuman-Kipchaks took the heaviest blow from the Mongols in the region they have been
ruling since one hundred and fifty years. After the victory of the Mongols in the territory of Cuman-Kipchaks, some groups
were submitted to the Golden Horde and some groups had to migrate to the lands of the Balkans and the Volga Bulgarians.
Cuman-Kipchaks who took important missions in the Golden Horde, also played an important role in the Turkification of this
state. Some group of Cuman-Kipchaks which had to migrate to the Balkans after the defeat they had suffered as the result of
the second Kipchak campaign have played an important role in the Bulgarian and Romanian states established in the region by
providing the Turkification of the Balkans before the Ottoman Empire. After establishment of the Golden Horde, the name of
region was also known as Desht-i Qipchaq and those who came from Batu Khan’s dynasty were named Khan of Kipchak. In
this article the relation of the Mongols and Cuman-Kipchaks will be dealt during domination of Mongol armies Desht-i Qipchaq
region and during the domination struggles.

Import of weapons came to the steppes in various ways. One of them was to pass on as diplomatic gifts that testified about the concluded covenants and emphasized the status and prestige of the donors and the donees. Such a ceremonial weapon was made to order at the rulers' court, often taking into account nomads’ sense of aesthetic. Another way of transfer was the purchase. Therefore, in border areas and near riverbanks, craft settlements were created. They often specialized in the production of weapons preferred by nomads. In addition, part of the collected weapons was undoubtedly the spoil of war.
The main centers of production and delivery of weapons for nomads were Ruthenia, Volga  Bulgaria, Caucasus, Byzantine, Central and Western Asia. Weapons from the Baltics and Western Europe territories were less likely to reach the Black Sea steppes.
A ceremonial weapon, buried in the grave, was not only meant to testify to the bravery and prestige of its owner but also indicated a warrior's social position and military rank. Also, funeral rites, related to the preparation of the deceased for the journey into the afterlife, in community awareness were to emphasize the ethos of the horse warrior.

Kuman/Kıpçakların tarihteki önemleri göz önünde bulundurulduğunda birçok özellik dikkat çekmektedir. Her şeyden önce kaynaklar bu Türk boyu kadar geniş bir sahada hâkimiyet kuran başka bir Türk boyu olmadığını belirtmektedir. Sahip oldukları konargöçer kültür ile yerleşiklerin hayatla-rına önemli dokunuşlarda bulunmuşlardır. Askeri yetenekleri, komşuları tarafından sürekli ücretli asker olarak davet edilmelerini, farklı milletlerin ordularında ağırlıklı kısmı oluşturmalarını sağlamıştır. Kuman/Kıpçaklar yaşadıkları coğrafyanın kendi adları ile anılmasına vesile olan ve söz ko-nusu sahanın dört bir yanına âdeta damga niteliğinde taş heykeller bırakan bir Türk boyudur. Bu çalışma savaşlar, antlaşmalar, siyasi münasebetlerden mümkün olduğunca arındırılmış bir şekilde Kuman/Kıpçakların kültürel hayatlarına, başka bir ifade ile gündelik yaşamlarına odaklanmıştır. Yazılı kaynaklardaki bilgiler, arkeolojik buluntular ve taş heykellerin sunduğu ve-riler ile zenginleştirilmiştir.

The Cumans came to Europe as a result of a number of migrations of peoples, which began with the arrival of the Kuns (Qūn) from China, expelled from their lands by the people of Kay (Qāy). This forced them to the territory of  Šārī (Sīrī) and cause a number of migrations (so acc. to Marwazi and Aufi). According to the chronicle of Matthew of Edessa, the initial impulse was given by the “Snake people” who attacked the “Pale” ones. In the case of the “Pales”, they can be compared with Šārī / Sīrī (“the yellow, pale, light” ones) and identified with the Kipchaks or the Kuns (both names can be etymologize from the root *qu[b] in the meaning of “pale, light, yellowish”). More problematic is to determine “the people of the Serpent”, which with equal success could be connected with the Kay or with the Khitan people. But because the Armenian historian wrote that the “Snakes” attacked and smashed the “Pales”, we probably should see in the former the Kay (or the Kuns and the Kay?), who invaded the lands of  Šārī / Sīrī, unleashing a chain migration.
The text discusses the distribution of the Cuman tribes in the territory of the so called Cumania (Polovetskoe pole, Dešt-i Qïbčāq) and their interaction with neighboring peoples and countries.  Attention is paid to their designation and the names of the elite leaders in comparison to their appearance in Russian, Byzantine and other sources. In their time, the Cumans (Polovtsians, Kipchaks) played an important role in the history of Central and South-Eastern Europe – in the Kievan Rus, Hungary, Bulgaria, the Caucasus, etc. Thus, the eastern part of  Europe became a peripheral zone of the huge Cumanian-Kipchak space, through which it was connected in time and space with the eastern periphery of the Kazakh steppe – where once arose the Kimek state, and where together with it began the ascent of the whole Kipchak world.

etmiş ve binlerce yıldan beri aktarılan tecrübeleri yaşamlarına yansıtmışlardır. Gagauzlar, Hristiyanlık dininin ortodoksluk şubesine
geçmiş ve uzun yıllar Slav-Ortodoks yahut Rum-Ortodoks kültür
çevresinin etkisinde kalmışlardır. Bu denli sosyal yaşamı temelden
etkileyecek değişimlere ve diğer Türk topluluklarından farklı bir yol
izlemelerine rağmen Gagauzlar uzunca yıllar kendi kültür ve dillerini muhafaza etmiş, XIX. yüzyıldan itibaren ise kendi içlerinden çıkardıkları millî liderler sayesinde kimliklerinin farkına varmışlardır.

Moğol seferleri, tarihin en önemli askeri faaliyetlerinden biridir. Moğol hakimiyetine giren yerlerden biri de Deşt-i Kıpçak'tır. Günümüzde Rusya'nın güneyindeki ve Ukrayna'nın kuzeyindeki bozkırlardan oluşan Deşt-i Kıpçak, XIII. yüzyıla dek bir Türk boyu olan Kıpçaklarla birlikte anılmıştır. XIII. yüzyılda Moğolların gelişi siyasi anlamda Kıpçak Hanlığı'na son vermiştir. Ancak Moğolların burada tesis ettiği Cuci Ulusu, bir süre sonra Kıpçak kültürünün etkisi altında kalmıştır. Birkaç kuşak sonra da Kıpçak kültürüne adapte olmuşlar, Kıpçak Türkçesiyle konuşmaya başlamışlardır. Moğol seferlerinin başarısını anlayabilmek için ardındaki askeri ve kültürel yapı dikkate alınmalıdır. Bu yönüyle Moğolların Deşt-i Kıpçak seferleri, konunun anlaşılabilmesi için dikkat çekici bir örnektir.

Mongolian campaigns of history is one of the most important military operations. One of the places which was dominated by the Mongols in Cumania (Dasht-i Kipchak or Kipchak Steppe). Today, the steppes of southern Russia and Ukraine to the north consisting of Cumani, XIII. century with a Turkish tribe, which has been called the Kipchaks. In XIII. century arrival of the Mongols, the Kipchak Khanate ended in a political sense. However, the Mongols established here Nation of Cuçi, after some time under the influence of the culture remained Kipchak. After a few generations have adapted to the culture of the Kipchak and Kipchak Turkish began to talk with. To understand the success of the Mongol expedition behind the military and cultural structure should be considered. This side Dasht-i Kipchak operations of the Mongols, it is a remarkable example for the understanding of the subject.

В  монографии  на  основе  комплексного  анализа  данных  различных источников,  данных  археологии,  этнографии,  лингвистики,  фольклорно- эпической  традиции  и  родоплеменных  генеалогий,  показывается  роль кипчакского  компонента  в  длительном  процессе  этнокультурного  развития кыргызского народа. В рамках выявления кипчакского компонента в настоящем исследовании  широко  освещены  проблемы  происхождения  и  формирования кыргызского этноса.

Аннотация. В данной статье рассматривается вопрос о этногенетической истории кимаков в IX-XI ве-ках. Можно выделить как минимум четыре важных вопроса в научных исследованиях истории кимаков в IX-XI веках. 1 Время появления кимаков на Иртыше. 2 Соотношение названий Йемек (Имек) и Кимак (Ки-мек). 3 Этногенетические исследования палеоДНК кимаков и кипчаков. 4 Противоречие сведений Худуд ал Алам и ал-Идриси касательно кимаков. В данной статье будут затронуты эти четыре аспекта. Ключевые слова: Кимаки, Кипчаки, Сибирь, Средние века, аль-Идриси, Худуд ал Алам. Abstract. This article discusses the ethnogenetic history of Kimaks in the IX-XI centuries. At least four important questions can be distinguished in the scientific studies of the history of the Kimaks in the IX-XI centuries. 1. The time of the Kimaks appearance on the Irtysh. 2. The relations between the tribal names Yemek (Imek) and Kimak (Kimek). 3. Ethnogenetic studies of paleoDNA of medieval Kimaks and Kipchaks. 4. The contradiction of the information of Khudud al Alam and al-Idrisi regarding kimaks. This article will address four of these aspects.

The article is devoted to the problems of ethnogenesis and early history of the Nogai people in connection with the ancient nomads, as well as mutual influence of the regions of the Great Steppe and the Caucasus in relation to each other. The medieval K ̇ipčak ̇ burial at the Chungul Kurgan in the southern Ukrainian steppe presents a seemingly paradoxical situation. On the one hand, the burial— here dated to the opening decades of the thirteenth century—is inserted into a previously extant tumulus of Bronze Age date, and the evidence of funerary ritual points towards the continuation of shamanist practices. On the other hand, the grave goods are largely composed of luxury objects associated with elite patron- age among the sedentary societies of Western Europe, Rus’, and the Mediterranean zone. This juxtaposition is carried through in the partially preserved costumes excavated from the burial. These present features that recall elements of official court dress in Byzantium and in the neighboring Christian and Islamic polities. While several of the garments take the essentially Turkic form of the caftan, they incorporate in their applied decoration elements not normally associated with this particular garment.
Close examination of the textiles from the Chungul Kurgan has revealed that they almost certainly represent the reuse of imported silks, gold-woven bands, and gold embroideries that came into the possession of the nomadic K ̇ipčak ̇s as gifts, trade items, or spoils of their raids on their sedentary neighbors. These include a panel of figural embroidery likely cut from a liturgical textile. Another group of embroideries and appliqués once formed a loros, the ceremonial scarf of Byzantine emperors, which was widely imitated in the dress and portraiture of other rulers in the region. A range of possible degrees of intentionality can govern the use of textile spolia—from strictly utilitarian reuse to the deliberately imitative, or victorious, appropriation of the insignia of another culture. The authors conclude that the way in which the textile elements were redeployed on the preserved garments represents at least a partial understanding of their meaning within their original contexts. Their reuse for the decoration of riding caftans incorporates the symbolic language of power and prestige that these insignia conveyed among the neighboring courtly cultures while preserving a distinctive, nomadic sartorial identity.

This study focuses on the interaction between Russian prin¬ces and nomadic Cumans (Qipčaqs, Polovcians). The starting point of our work are names and family ties of indi¬vi¬dual Cumans captured in the oldest Russian chronicles which re¬pre¬sent "minimum quanta" of the historical information. N. M. Ka¬ramzin in the notes to his History drew attention to the fact that some of the names of the Cuman families repre¬sen¬tatives are obviously associated with Russia. These "Rus¬sian" names, in our opinion, are the most important indicator of the cross-dynastic interaction, contacts between Russia and the nomadic world. What is the composition of the corpus of Russian names of Cuman elite representatives? In essence, it consists of only a very limited number of an¬throponyms: Yuri (George), Daniil, Roman, Gleb, Yaropolk, Da¬vyd (?), Vasili. It is crucial that all of these names are re¬gu¬lar¬ly used as dynastic by the Rurikids in the 11th — begin¬ning of 13th century. Most of the names, borrowed by Cumans from Rus¬sians, are Christian names. At the same time attention is drawn to the non-trivial dis¬tribution reflected in the information of sources; while dis¬co¬vering Christian names of some representatives of the highest Cuman nobility, we do not find any mention of the fact that any of the owners of these names, their fathers and other close male relatives took baptism. On the contrary, they are con¬sistently characterized as pagans. Moreover, ancient chro¬nicles contain no reports of Cuman princes taking bap¬tism until the beginning of the Tataro-Mongol invasion. Interestingly, Christian names of those few Cumans of whose conversion we can speak more or less confidently can¬not be found in any records, whether it is a Cuman wife of a Russian prince, an anonymous monk of Kiev-Pechersk Mona¬ste¬ry, an author of an inscription on the church wall or a power¬ful Cuman Prince, who was baptized on the eve of the Battle of the Kalka. In our work we have sought to demonstrate that the cause of the appearence of Russian names in this environ¬ment is a cross-dynastic, intergenic anthroponymic communi¬ca¬tion, a desire to consolidate the alliance with the Russian princes, but not a conversion of the male representatives of the Cuman elite. The set of "Russian" names used by Cumans allows us to determine the circle of their "anthroponymical donors" among the Rurikids and identify a number of rules and laws on which this communication in the language of names was carried out.

Русскую историю второй половины XI — начала XIII в. попросту невозможно изложить без постоянного упоминания половцев. Взаимодействие с этими кочевниками, однако, не сводилось к прямому военному противостоянию. Рюриковичи с самого начала стремились использовать «атомную энергию» половецких кланов в собственной внутридинастической борьбе, не переставая, впрочем, время от времени объединяться в общерусских походах на половцев. При этом на протяжении многих десятилетий русские князья женились на половчанках, гостили у своих степных союзников и принимали их у себя, вырабатывали общие дипломатические практики и церемониалы. Одним из воплощений русско-половецкого взаимодействия, своеобразным сгустком династической истории, оказываются «русские» имена, неожиданно появляющиеся у половецких князей. Корпус этих имен относительно невелик, но история их функционирования позволяет выявить многие важные аспекты в том переплетении «своего» и «чужого», которое характеризует сосуществование русского правящего рода и половецкой элиты на протяжении почти двухсотлетнего периода.

The ethnic origins of Cumans and Kipchaks, who have played an important role in history, are one of the complex problems of Turcology. While most scholars who study the Kipchak-Kumans agree that they are a Turkish nomadic confederation, some disagree. In this study, an alternative proposal is presented about the possible ethnic origins of Kipchak-Cumans through the ancient Turkish legends.

Первый том серии "Золотая Орда в источниках" является собранием переводов на русский язык основных арабских и персидских источников XIII - XVI вв., касающихся истории улуса Джучи (Золотой Орды). В его основу положены переводы выдающегося русского ориенталиста В.Г. Тизенгаузена, которые были сведены в 2 тома "Сборника материалов, относящихся к истории Золотой Орды" (СМИЗО) и были изданы в 1884 и 1941 гг.

т.3 "Китайские и монгольские источники", вышел в 2009 г.
Третий том серии "Золотая Орда в источниках" является собранием переводов на русский язык сведений из китайских (XIII–XIV вв.) и монгольских (XIII–XVIII вв.) источников, касающихся истории улуса Джучи (Золотой Орды). В его основу положены переводы из китайской династийной хроники «Юань ши». Она представляет собой официальную историю мировой монгольской империи и династии Юань в Китае, созданную на основе аутентичных документов монголо-китайской канцелярии как первых монгольских ханов, так и последующих императоров Юань. Даны полные переводы анналов царствований Чингисхана, Угэдэя, Гуюка и Мэнгу-каана (цзюани 1-3), а также жизнеописаний Джучи, Субэдэя и некоторых других. В виде извлечений из разных разделов «Юань ши» приведены разнообразные сведения о России, Восточной Европе, их народах и связанных с ними событий. В данный том вошел также полный перевод «Хэй-да шилюэ (Краткие известия о черных татарах)» – сочинения южносунских дипломатов Пэн Да-я и Сюй Тина, побывавших с дипломатическими миссиями в Монголии в 1233-1236 гг. Ранее издавался русский перевод только половины этого ценнейшего источника, содержащего сведения южнокитайских дипломатов и разведчиков, которые были предназначены для отчета перед правительством о миссиях к монгольскому хану Угэдэю. Теперь эти сведения доступны в полном объеме.

т.4 "Сочинения европейских авторов", вышел в 2021 г.
Четвертый том серии «Золотая Орда в источниках» в основной своей части содержит сведения о событиях монгольского нашествия в Восточную Европу и Византию в первой половине XIII века (находятся в Части первой настоящего тома), написанные на европейских языках современниками и очевидцами; также туда помещаются сообщения синхронных европейских авторов о монголах и татарах из Улуса Джучи в XIV – XV вв. (находятся в Части второй настоящего тома). Для этого в основном используются источники, написанные очевидцами, современниками и участниками событий. Это и отчеты миссий к монголам, отправленных европейскими монархами и папой римским, записки путешественников (торговых, вынужденных etc), побывавших у монголов и татар в XIII – XV вв., таких как венгерские миссионеры (брат Юлиан и др.), францисканские и доминиканские миссии (Плано Карпини, Бенедикт Поляк, Рубрук, Асцелин), купцы-путешественники (семья Поло, Иосафат Барбаро и Амброджо Контарини из Венеции) и просто случайно попавшие к татарам люди, прожившие среди них много лет (Иоганн Шильтбергер). Тексты Магистра Рогерия и Фомы Сплитского представляют подробные свидетельства очевидцев и участников событий монгольского нашествия в Венгрию и на Балканы. Кроме указанных сочинений, использованы хроники и исторические сочинения авторов, живших XIII–XV вв. Это польская «Великая Хроника» (конец XIII в.), византийские истории Георгия Акрополита, продолжавшего его Георгия Пахимера (середина XIII – начало XIV в.) и Никифора Григоры (XIV в.). Кроме них широко использованы выдержки из «Анналов» польского историка Яна Длугоша (1415 – 1480), относящиеся к XIV – XV вв., перевод которых на русский язык публикуется впервые. В разделах «Дополнительные материалы», относящихся к Частям первой и второй, помещены только те выдержки из источников, которые дополняют вышеуказанные тексты как времен периода единства Монгольской империи, так и в более поздние, вплоть до 3-й четверти XV вв. Все они содержат важные детали и дополнения к материалам, представленным в двух основных частях тома.

т.5 "Армянские источники", вышел в 2019 г.
В основной своей части содержит сведения о событиях монгольского нашествия в Переднюю Азию в первой половине XIII века, записанные на армянском языке современниками и очевидцами событий – такими как Григор Акнерци, Вардан Аревелци,  Киракос Гандзакеци и другие авторы Великой Армении, а также представляющими Киликийское армянское царство летописцами, такими как Смбат Спарапет и др. «История народа стрелков инока Магакии (Григора Акнерци)» приводится в полном объеме, вместе с предисловием и подробными комментариями переводчика К.П. Патканова (они содержат также обширные  параллельные сообщения как из армянских авторов, тех же Вардана, Киракоса и других очевидцев того времени, так и сирийского ученого-энциклопедиста и историка, современника этих армянских авторов, Григория Бар-Эбрая). Из большой «Всемирной истории» Вардана Великого целиком воспроизводится ее заключительная часть, представляющая собой летопись событий с 1220/21 г., года первого появления монголов, снабженная такими же обширными примечаниями переводчика Н.О. Эмина. Из «Истории Армении» Киракоса Гандзакеци приводятся выдержки из его сочинения (представляющего собой т.н. «всемирную историю», как историю армянской церкви и армян), касающиеся непосредственно истории Золотой Орды. Из другого нарративного материала армянских авторов XIII–XIV вв. в настоящий том серии ЗОИ помещены только те выдержки из них, которые дополняют вышеуказанные сочинения по теме монголов периода единства Монгольской империи. Из этих источников также приводятся еще и те их сведения о становлении государства Хулагуидов (он же ильханат Ирана), которые относятся ко 2-й половине XIII в. и которые связаны с его отношениями с противостоящим ему государством Джучидов (Золотой Ордой). Аналогичные по вышеназванной тематике сведения источников, извлеченные из мемориальных и иных письменных памятников на армянском языке XIII–XIV вв., размещены во втором разделе основной части тома. Кроме основной части, в данном томе размещены также «Дополнительные материалы», где цитируются выдержки из двух важных источников, созданных в тех же регионах, к которым относятся все вышеназванные армянские источники – это анонимный грузинский хронограф XIV в. «Жамтаагмцерели» (в переводе Г.В. Цулая) и сирийская «Всеобщая история» (доведена до начала 1286 г.) Григория Бар-Эбрая (1226 – 1286 гг.).

Kıpçaklar’ın Gürcistan’da ilk defa görülmeleri, Gürcü kaynaklarında M.Ö. 336-323 yılları arasında hüküm süren İskender’in Kafkasya’da görüldüğü tarihe denk gelmektedir. Fakat sözü edilen Türk kavminin bölgedeki varlığı ünlü Kiev Knezi Vladimir Monomach’ın (II.Vladimir) öncülüğünde düzenlenmiş olan başarılı seferler sonucunda gerçekleşmiştir. Kral IV. David döneminde başlayan Kıpçak göçleri, Kraliçe Tamara (Thamar) dönemine kadar devam etmiştir. Onlar, Krallık tarafından kendilerine tahsis edilen yaylak ve kışlaklara yerleştirilerek Gürcistan ordusunun önemli bir kısmını oluşturmuşlardır. Gürcistan ordusu içerisinde sayısız seferlere katılan Kıpçaklar sayesinde Gürcistan Krallığı en ihtişamlı dönemlerini yaşamış ve bölgenin mutlak hâkimi olmuştur. Bu doğrultuda, onların etkileri Kral III. Giorgi ve Kraliçe Tamara zamanında zirveye ulaşmıştır. Sözü edilen dönemlerde Kıpçak kökenli Kubasar ve Kutlu Arslan Krallık içerisindeki en nüfuzlu kişiler arasında yer almışlardır. Mezkûr Türk kavminin, Gürcistan üzerinden Güney Kafkasya, Karadeniz, Karadeniz’in doğusu ve Doğu Anadolu gibi bölgelere göç ettikleri görülmektedir. Buralara yerleşen Kıpçaklar’ın bir kısmı Hristiyanlığı bir kısmı ise Müslümanlığı kabul ederek hayatlarını idame ettirmişlerdir. Onların sözü edilen bölgelerdeki izleri günümüzde de görülmeye devam edilmektedir. Makalede, Kıpçakların Gürcü kaynaklarında ilk kez görülmeleri, onların Gürcistan Krallığı topraklarına göç etmeleri ve sırasıyla IV. (II.) David, III. Giorgi, Tamara ve IV. Giorgi Lasha dönemlerindeki askerî faaliyetlerinin yanı sıra Krallık çevresindeki mevcudiyetleri de ele alınmıştır.

Özellikle Hunlardan başlayarak, çeşitli Türk boylarının Doğu Roma topraklarına kalıcı şekilde yerleştirildiklerini biliyoruz. Bu şekilde toplu olarak yapılan en son yerleştirme olan 13. yy'daki Kuman iskanı ve sonrasında bunların torunlarının ne olduklarıyla alakalı şimdiye kadar toplu bir çalışma yapılmamıştır. Bu kısa makale bu Kumanları ve onların torunlarını anlatmaktadır.

ÖZ Moğollar ve Kuman/Kıpçaklar…Her ikisi de yaĢadıkları döneme damga vurmuĢ, sahip oldukları konar-göçer kültür ile yerleĢik toplumların hayatında derin izler bırakmıĢ iki halktır. Bilindiği üzere Kuman/Kıpçakların siyasî hayatı Moğol istilası nedeni ile sonlanmıĢtır. Ġlk bakıĢta bir felaket olarak değerlendirilebilecek söz konusu istila hareketi aslında diğer tüm halklar için olduğu gibi Kuman/Kıpçaklar için de tam bir dönüm noktasıdır. Kuman/Kıpçak birliği Ģeklinde var olan siyasi etkinliği sona erdirmiĢ ya da sahip olunan verimli arazilerin ve ticari kazanç açısından çok faydalı coğrafi sahaların elden çıkmasına neden olmuĢ olması istilanın bir boyutu iken; Kuman/Kıpçakların özellikle Bulgar ve Macar sahasında oldukça etkin bir rol oynamaları sonucunu beraberinde getirmiĢ olması ve söz konusu devletlerin hayatında askerî ve hatta idarî önemli görevler almalarını sağlaması diğer bir boyutudur. Bu noktada Moğolların XIII. yüzyılda gerçekleĢen hareketi Kuman/Kıpçak tarihinin yön değiĢtirmesine vesile olan bir hareket olarak algılanmalıdır. ABSTRACT Mongols and Cuman/Kypchaks…Both of them are folks that made an impact on their era, and left a mark on the people through their nomad culture. As is known, Cuman/Kypchaks political life ended because of Mongol invasion. Ġn fact, said invasion movement that can be considered as a disaster at first sight, is a turning point for Cuman/Kypchaks like any other community. While ending the Cuman/Kypchak political association or causing loss of geographical land with fertile lands and high trading profits is one dimension of the invasion, causing Cuman/Kypchaks playing a big role especially in Bulgarian and Hungarian land and even taking a charge in military and governing positions of these countries is another dimension. Ġn this aspect, Mongol invasion in XIII. century is not to be considered as an end to Cuman/Kypchak history, but a rather turning point.

По 36 маркёрам (№ 4131yseq) Масагутовы отнесены к западному кластеру C2b1b1 (M48+, M77+,M86+, L1370+[2] встречающегося среди татар, башкир, казахов, калмыков, кыргызов и других[3].

... Носители субклада L1370 могли быть среди таких древних народов как чумугунь 处木昆 (они же яньто 延陀, кимаки, емеки, йама, емековичи) и сары-тюргеши 突骑施 (половцы-сары).

Объективный и окончательный ответ об этнической принадлежности носителей субклада L1370 могут дать в т.ч. исследования палео-ДНК кимакских, половецких и сары-тюргешский захоронений.

The article presents the earrings known in the Bulgarian lands, the area of their spread, as well as the possible sources of their appearance in the culture of Danube Bulgaria in 13th-14th  centuries. The author points out that the emergence and spread of these question mark shaped earrings in the Bulgarian lands has been most likely influenced by the culture of the steppe peoples. These peoples (mainly the Cumans) were within the Golden Horde orbit.
