Smart information systems (SIS), systems based in machine learning approaches to artificial intelligence using big data analytics are high profile examples of emerging technologies that have the potential to significantly affect most aspects of personal and societal life in industrialised societies. They are the subject of much scientific research but also of large amount of philosophical and sociological studies. A key question they raise relates to ethical questions they may raise which can involve questions of human rights. The majority of these reflective approaches to SIS are based on anecdotal evidence or conceptual considerations. There is little research investigating the actual ethical issues these technologies raise in their real-world environments. This paper discusses the issues of implied trust in ethical hacking. Unlike many other long-established professions, such as lawyers, doctors, and accountants; ethical hacking is a relatively new profession. As a result, this profession does not currently have a uniformed or mandated code, nor does it require any form of licensing. Because ethical hackers could gain access to highly sensitive and confidential information and there is potential for misuse of such information, the need to ensure professionalism is maintained through ensuring competence and ethical behavior is critical.

Blepharoplasty is one of the most commonly performed facial aesthetic surgeries. While myriad techniques exist to improve the appearance of the lower eyelids, there is no clear consensus on the optimal management of the orbital septum. To evaluate the safety and feasibility of the use of the holmium:yttrium aluminum garnet (Ho:YAG) laser for orbital septal tightening, and to determine whether modest use of this laser would provide some degree of clinical efficacy. Direct laser irradiation of ex vivo bovine tissue was used to determine appropriate laser dosimetry using infrared thermal imaging and optical coherence tomography before conducting a pilot clinical study in 5 patients. To report ocular perforation that occurred during retrobulbar injection in 7 highly myopic eyes. Seven patients with a diagnosis of globe injury during retrobulbar injection for ocular anesthesia before cataract surgery were managed by vitreoretinal surgery. All injections were performed by ophthalmologists. The surgeon recognized the perforation in 4 cases at the time of injection. The preoperative vision was hand motion perception in 4 eyes and light perception in 3 eyes. All patients underwent vitreoretinal surgery because of the presence of vitreous hemorrhage and/or retinal detachment diagnosed by funduscopy or ultrasonography. At the time of surgery, all eyes had vitreous hemorrhage and 4 eyes had rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. The number of vitreoretinal procedures performed was: 1 procedure in 4 patients, 2 procedures in 2 patients, and 3 procedures in 1 patient. Congenital ocular malformations are uncommon and require prenatal diagnosis. Severe anomalies are more often detected by trained teams and minor anomalies are more difficult to identify and must be systematically sought, particularly when multiple malformations or a family and maternal history is known. The prenatal diagnosis-imaging tool most commonly used is ultrasound but it can be completed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which contributes crucial information. Fetal dysmorphism can occur in various types of dysfunction and prenatal diagnosis must recognize fetal ocular anomalies. After systematic morphologic ultrasound imaging, different abnormalities detected by MRI are studied. Classical parameters such as binocular and interorbital measurements are used to detect hypotelorism and hypertelorism. Prenatal ocular anomalies such as cataract microphthalmia, anophthalmia, and coloboma have been described. Fetal MRI added to prenatal sonography is essential in detecting cerebral and general anomalies and can give more information on the size and morphology of the eyeball. Fetal abnormality detection includes a detailed family and maternal history, an amniotic fluid sample for karyotype, and other analyses for a better understanding of the images. Each pregnancy must be discussed with all specialists for genetic counseling. With severe malformations, termination of pregnancy is proposed because of risk of blindness and associated cerebral or systemic anomalies. Early prenatal diagnosis of ocular malformations can also detect associated abnormalities, taking congenital cataracts that need surgical treatment into account as early as possible. Finally, various associated syndromes need a pediatric check-up that could lead to emergency treatment.

Acute respiratory infections accounts for 20–40% of outpatient and 12–35% of inpatient attendance in a general hospital. Upper respiratory tract infections including nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis and otitis media constitute 87.5% of the total episodes of respiratory infections. The vast majority of acute upper respiratory tract infections are caused by viruses. Common cold is caused by viruses in most circumstances and does not require antimicrobial agent unless it is complicated by acute otitis media with effusion, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and lower respiratory tract infection. Sinusitis is commonly associated with common cold. Most instances of rhinosinusitis are viral and therefore, resolve spontaneously without antimicrobial therapy. The most common bacterial agents causing sinusitis areS. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis,S. aureus andS. pyogenes. Amoxycillin is antibacterial of choice. The alternative drugs are cefaclor or cephalexin. The latter becomes first line if sinusitis is recurrent or chronic. Acute pharyngitis is commonly caused by viruses and does not need antibiotics. About 15% of the episodes may be due to Group A beta hemolytic streptococcus (GABS). Early initiation of antibiotics in pharyngitis due to GABS can prevent complications such as acute rheumatic fever. The drug of choice is penicillin for 10–14 days. The alternative medications include oral cephalosporins (cefaclor, cephalexin), amoxicillin or macrolides.

In mice, intravenous injections are commonly administered in the lateral tail vein. This technique is sometimes difficult to carry out and may cause stress to mice. Though injection through the retro-orbital venous sinus can provide certain advantages over lateral tail vein injection, this method is poorly defined and infrequently used. To compare the efficacy of these two routes of drug delivery, the authors injected MAFIA transgenic mice with the depletion agent AP20187, which selectively induces apoptosis in macrophages. Each mouse received five consecutive daily injections through either the lateral tail vein or the retro-orbital venous sinus. The authors then compared macrophage depletion in different tissues (lung, spleen, bone marrow and peritoneal exudate cells). Both routes of injection were similarly effective. A separate experiment using BALB/c mice indicated that retro-orbital venous sinus injection was the less stressful of the two methods.

Orbital organic foreign bodies are rare and can present different clinical features. The objective of this report is to show the danger of this type of foreign body, present the imaging data, and suggest a diagnostic approach and therapeutic management. We describe three cases of orbital organic foreign bodies with three different clinical presentations. The first case was a 43-year-old male complaining of a chronic cutaneous fistula of the inferior right eyelid lasting 4 months after an orbital trauma with a wooden object. Two surgeries were necessary to extract the foreign bodies. In the second case, a 37-year-old female with post-traumatic ptosis after a bicycle accident several months before, the imaging exams revealed a fracture of the left orbital ceiling and a superior extraconical foreign body that was removed by a neurosurgery approach. The third case, a 69-year-old male with a right orbit abscess following a trauma with a tree branch had a persistent right orbit inflammation lasting 4 months despite two drainage surgeries and an extraction of an orbital organic foreign body. A third surgery was necessary to completely extract the foreign bodies. Detecting an orbital organic foreign body is sometimes difficult, especially when the clinical history is unclear, the ophthalmologic exam reveals no abnormalities, or if the patient is referred to the hospital several months after the traumatic event. Orbital organic foreign bodies can lead to potentially serious orbital or intracranial complications. Computed tomography and orbital ultrasound sometimes do not yield an evocative pattern: for instance, in computed tomography, the low density of wood can be misdiagnosed as air. On the other hand, these foreign bodies can persist in the orbit after several surgical explorations because they can easily break or migrate. Magnetic resonance imaging is useful when an orbital organic foreign body is suspected, but the analysis is easier when clinical data are suggestive.

Previous studies on the effects of surgical and rapid palatal expansion have been largely based on general skeletal and dental findings ascertained from radiographs and casts. The aim of this study was to measure and compare the soft tissue changes of the face during the expansion process and to determine the stability of any changes 1 year later. The sample consisted of 44 patients with unilateral or bilateral posterior crossbites. Twenty-four of the patients required a surgically assisted expansion procedure, and a second group of 20 patients were treated with orthopedic expansion. Ten measurements were made from standardized frontal facial photographic slides at 5 intervals of treatment: initial, bond appliance, stop expansion, debond appliance, and 1 year retention. Differences over time between the surgical and nonsurgical groups were analyzed by a 2 way multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and post hoc t tests. Differences between initial and 1 year retention were found in the nasal widths (P < .001) of both surgical and nonsurgical groups. Other significant changes and trends were discussed. Abstract:  An accurate understanding of the spatial relationships between the deep and superficial structures of the head is essential for anthropological methods concerned with the comparison of faces to skulls (superimposition) or the prediction of faces from them (facial approximation). However, differences of opinion exist concerning: (i) the position of the eyeball in planes other than the anteroposterior plane and (ii) the canthi positions relative to the bony orbital margins. This study attempts to clarify the above relationships by dissection of a small sample of adult human cadavers (N = 4, mean age = 83 years, s = 12 years). The most notable finding was that the eyeballs were not centrally positioned within the orbits as the more recent craniofacial identification literature expounds. Rather, the eyeballs were consistently positioned closer to the orbital roof and lateral orbital wall (by 1–2 mm on average); a finding consistent with the earlier anatomical literature. While these estimation errors are small ipsilaterally, several factors make them meaningful: (i) the orbital region is heavily used for facial recognition; (ii) the width error is doubled because the eyes are bilateral structures; (iii) the eyes are sometimes used to predict/assess other soft tissue facial structures; and (iv) the net error in facial approximation rapidly accumulates with the subsequent prediction of each independent facial feature. While the small sample size of this study limits conclusive generalizations, the new data presented here nonetheless have immediate application to craniofacial identification practice because the results are evidence based. In contrast, metric data have never been published to support the use of the central positioning guideline. Clearly, this study warrants further quantification of the eyeball position in larger samples and preferably of younger individuals.
