Монография посвящена не изучавшимся ранее Кормчим книгам, переписывавшимся в Галиции, – территории, на которой сосуществовали и за которую соперничали православные, католики и униаты. История православных канонических книг на этих землях тесно связана с ключевыми этапами церковной истории Галиции – возрождением Галицкой епархии во второй четверти XVI в., сопротивлением Брестской унии (1596 г.) и попытками сохранить православие на протяжении всего XVII в. В Приложениях опубликовано описание двух редакций Кормчих книг с обзором всех сохранившихся рукописей этих редакций. Издание сопровождено указателями.

Статья посвящена проблеме датировки Мерила праведного и анализу взаимоотношения входящих в него текстов с иными сочинениями, появляющимися в кон. XIII в. Сопоставление текстов позволяет пересмотреть принятую до сих пор точку зрения и приводит нас к выводу о том, что в Мериле праведном были использованы многие тексты, ставшие известными только в кон. XIII в. Изучение списков Мерила праведного и сравнение их состава показывает, что все они восходят к рукописи, уже имевшей ряд утрат в тексте. Совокупность наблюдений позволяет датировать Мерило праведное первыми годами XIV в.

Summary: The paper is devoted to the problem of dating of Merilo Pravednoe. The author explores interrelations between Merilo Pravednoe and the other texts which were written at the end of 13th century. The comparison of the texts indicates that the authors of Merilo Pravednoe used some texts which became known only at the end of 13th century. Studying of the Merilo Pravednoe and comparison of its copies let us understand that their archetype had a number of lacks of texts. So we can date Merilo pravednoe the first years of 14th century.

The article explores the relation between nomoi and canons in Byzantium, as well as the attitude of the byzantine emperor about both the canons and the church, as well as about the nomoi. The limits of the legislative power of the emperor are highlighted on the occasion of the dispute that occupied Byzantium for about fifteen years (1081-1095) as a result of the confiscation of the holy vessels by Alexios I Komnenos, in order to finance mercenary troops after the occupation of Durres by the Normans in Oktober of 1081. The equation of nomoi and canons by the Novel 131 of Justinian in 545, as well as the ambiguous attitude of 12th century jurists about the relation of nomoi and canons, as a result of the close relation of Church and State in Byzantium, are reflected in the use of the terms “nomos” and “canon” as equivalent in the Alexias by Anna Komnene, who records the dispute. On the other hand, a fiction of law is constructed by Anna Komnene, in order to cover up the violation by Alexios I Komnenos even of the strict conditions set by the Novel 120 of Justinian for the confiscation of holy vessels. Rhetoric is highlighted as the powerful tool of imperial power in its struggle to consolidate itself.

In light of recent scholarship on the multicultural character of the Norman Kingdom of Sicily, this article reconsiders the nature of the Greek monk Neilos Doxapatres' treatise on the 'Order of the Patriarchal Thrones', produced at the behest King Roger II of Sicily in 1143/4. It also looks anew at the evidence for the author's life and career so as to better understand the work. On the basis of manuscript analysis, I make the case that Neilos Doxapatres is the same person as the twelfth-century Byzantine 'nomophylax' (a legal expert in the Patriarchate of Constantinople) Nicholas Doxapatres, and that he retired to live a monastic life under the name 'Neilos' in the royal monastery of the Holy Saviour of Messina, established by Roger II in 1133.

The main section of the article examines the text of the 'Order of the Patriarchal Thrones', examining the roots of its central arguments in twelfth-century Byzantine canon law debate. Rather than simply a 'geographical' work, the treatise is a commentary on a form of technical canon law literature, 'taktika', drawn from sources in canon law manuscripts. Finally it considers Neilos' work in the context of twelfth-century Greek Christianity in Southern Italy, which was under a Latin king and the Latin church, but which still adhered to Byzantine canonical culture. The article concludes with remarks on the significance of Byzantine canon law systematisation in the context of broader medieval Church reform, particularly as it played a role in Norman Sicily.
