The influence of motor skill on perceptual-cognitive and perceptual-motor decision making has been theorised but not verified empirically.Expert (n = 19), developmental (n = 20), and lesser-skilled netballers (n = 19) completed tests designed to evaluate three different components of domain-specific expertise: (i) motor skill-execution; (ii) perceptual-cognitive decision making; and (iii) perceptual-motor decision making.Each of the three measures was found to improve commensurate with domain-specific skill. Decisions requiring movements (perceptual-motor) elicited more accurate decision making than simple verbal responses (perceptual-cognitive), irrespective of participant skill. Although motor skill was found to be related to the successful execution of a most appropriate movement in a game situation, it was not found to limit the nature of the decision made by participants. No evidence was found to support the supposition that lesser-skilled participants bias their perceptual-cognitive decisions towards ones supported by their motor ability.Results fail to comprehensively support the contemporary models for the development of perceptual-cognitive and perceptual-motor skill in sport.► Motor skill influenced the performance of the required action, but not necessarily the decision made. ► Performance is superior on a coupled perceptual-motor task relative to a de-coupled perceptual-cognitive task. ► Motor skill performance was commensurate with expertise.

J Strength Cond Res XX(X): 000-000, 2019-The study aimed to determine activity profiles of officials in elite netball. Physical demands of Load·min 21 (au) representing accumulated accelerations by triaxial accelerometers during matches and exercise-to-rest ratio were measured using global positioning systems (Catapult, MinimaxX S4). Physiological demands were quantified by estimated equivalent distance and heart rate (HR) (MeanHR, percentage HRpeak, and HRzones) and movement variables (frequency, mean time, and percentage of total time) were coded using Sportscode Elite (Version 10, Hudl, Lincoln, Nebraska). Differences were analyzed by periods (Q1-Q4). Load·min 21 (au) (M 5 407 6 66) significantly varied with time (F [3, 55] 5 3.42, p 5 0.02) and the highest percentage of exercise-to-rest performed in Q1 (21 6 5%). Estimated equivalent distance (3,839 6 614 m) varied significantly with time (F [3, 56] 5 3.18, p 5 0.03), the umpires spent longest duration of time (35%) in HRzone 3 (75-85% of HRpeak). Mean HR significantly decreased with time (p , 0.01; Q1 [157 6 13], quarter 2 [156 6 12], and Q4 [153 6 14]). Umpires spent 77% in rest-recovery ratio movements and 23% of time exercise-to-rest ratio. In summary, netball umpiring is characterized by intermittent, short, high-intensity activity (sprinting, side-stepping, and turn to change direction), with increasing periods of rest-recovery (walking and standing).

Anthropometric and physical performance profiles of youth netball players have not been studied
frequently. There have been limited studies focused on physical performances among youth netball
players. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and physical
performances of Sabah youth netball players by position. A total of ninety-one female netball players
aged between 17 to 20 years old have participated in this study. Anthropometric (height, weight, and
body mass index) and physical fitness performance (speed, agility, power, flexibility, and aerobic
endurance) were collected. For anthropometric result showed that there was a significant difference
between positions in height and weight (p<.05), and there was no significant difference between players'
positions in body mass index (p>.05). For physical fitness, the performance showed that there was no
significant difference between the players’ positions in all fitness components (p>.05). These findings
demonstrate that the height and body weight is different between positions in female netball players. This
physical performance profiles may help coaches to improve athlete performance before a competition.

The results of this study support the view that, as a modified form of the game, six-a-side can
provide a viable supplement to traditional netball. The modifications involved both simplify the game and also speed
it up, creating pressures and decision-making demands which appear to be consistent with the game at the higher
level, all in a motivational context. As a developmental game, six-a-side is not perfect; passing and engagement data
suggests that it favours link players. Variations or rule changes need to address this bias. In general, this research
emphasises the value of modifying games for the benefit of developing players. This approach is not exclusive to
six-a-side, but rather a concept that merits greater emphasis in the development of coaches at all levels.

RESUMEN El netball es un antiguo deporte colectivo de oposición/colaboración de origen estadounidense, practicado únicamente por mujeres, que por algún motivo apenas se conoce en España. La incorporación modificada o bien reglada de este juego puede aportar para la Educación Física un aliciente nuevo, tanto para el alumnado como para el profesorado. El objeto de este trabajo consiste en acercar el conocimiento del netball al profesorado de educación física y destacar algunos rasgos de su lógica interna y externa que favorecen su introducción en la Educación Primaria. Para llevar acabo este propósito, se aborda una comprensión del juego a partir del análisis de la lógica interna y, así, presentar una propuesta didáctica que pueda ser ensayada a partir del cuarto curso de Educación Primaria. Esta propuesta, en formato de unidad didáctica, puede representar una alternativa al modelo institucionalizado del deporte convencional de muchos países. La propuesta se ha orientado en una metodología centrada en la cesión de autonomía y el estilo de enseñanza compresivo del deporte. Asimismo, se enfatiza una intervención reflexiva y crítica comprometida con la supresión de las barreras sexistas. Netbol dünyada sadece kadınlar tarafından oynanan ve adil oyun ruhunu ön plana çıkaran bir spor branşıdır. Netbol 19.yy. da ortaya çıkıp günümüzde yaklaşık 20 milyondan fazla kadının oynadığı dev bir organizasyona dönüşmüştür. Uluslararası Netbol Federasyonunca düzenlenen ülke sıralamaları incelendiğinde ilk üç sırayı Avusturalya, Yeni Zelanda, İngiltere paylaşırken, devam sıralamasında sosyoekonomik düzeyleri düşük olarak nitelendirilebilecek Jamaika, Uganda, Malavi ve Trinidad ve Tobago gibi ülkeler yer almaktadır. Bu da bize Netbolun dünya tabanına ne denli yayıldığını ve her kesimden insanlarca benimsendiğini göstermektedir. Fakat ülkemizde bu spor dalı diğer popüler branşlara kıyasla kendisine yer edinmemiştir. Bu sebeple araştırma Netbol branşı hakkında genel bilgiler vermeyi amaçlamaktadır. // Netball is a sport branch that is played by women only in the world and cares about the fair play spirit. Netball which emerged in the 19th century, today, turned into a giant organization with more than 20 million women who play the netball. When the country
rankings organized by the International Netball Federation are examined, Australia, New Zealand, England share the top three, while the continuation ranking includes countries such as Jamaica, Uganda, Malawi and Trinidad and Tobago, which can be considered as low socio-economic levels. This shows us how Netball has spread to the world base and has been adopted by the society. However, in our country, this sport branch has not taken its place compared to other popular branches. For this reason, the research aims to give general information about the Netball branch.

This report presents the findings of the South African Netball Participant Survey 2000.  The primary purpose of this survey is to better understand the experiences and views of elite-level netball players, coaches, and managers in South Africa.  This survey is part of a larger case study examining the issues of cultural transformation both in and through sports in the new South Africa.  This survey and the larger study were conducted by Dr. Cynthia F. Pelak.  It is the aim and hope of Professor Pelak that these findings be used to assist in the ongoing process of racial transformation of Netball South Africa and to serve as a source of information for other organizations seeking to address issues of inequality within their organizations.

The focus of this conference report is the inaugural Oceania Performance Analysis Symposium, held in Auckland
in December 2017. Performance Analysis (PA) is a field of sport science which focuses on providing an objective
way of recording performance so that key elements of performance can be quantified in a valid and consistent
manner. While PA is a relatively new discipline of sport science, the field has grown rapidly in the past 20 years.
ISPAS Oceania – the organising body behind the conference – is a subcommittee of *The International Society of
Performance Analysis in Sport (ISPAS). ISPAS, and its predecessor the International Society of Notational Analysis of Sport (ISNAS, founded 1991). The symposium featured a number of original research contributions in the form of featured speakers and peerreviewed
presentations. Dr Kirsten Spencer (senior lecturer at AUT) opened the symposium by discussing her
research on netball. ‘FutureFern to Fast5’ is a research project she has conducted with Sophie Wolf for NZ Netball.
This explores the impact of small-sided games (6v6) on game-specific factors such as player decision-making, gamespecific
learning, whistle stoppage, shooting opportunities and psychological factors such as player engagement and
intrinsic motivation. These elements are contextualised around four main themes, described as fast, change, focus
and motivation. The findings of this project underline the relevance of a constraint-led perspective for developing
young netball players and the role of performance analysis as a data collection tool in applied research projects.Dr Sam Robertson is an associate professor at Victoria University and head of Research & Innovation at Western
Bulldogs AFL. He presented on the role of performance analysis in developing and delivering a successful culture
within AFL, including improving decision-making and answering complex problems. He shared innovative examples
of analysis work conducted with the Bulldogs, including player coupling, predicting ball and player movement, and
attempts to define and measure pressure. He also spoke of the ongoing resistance to PA within sport, generated
in part by inconsistent application and poor integration, lack of awareness and the need for continual reflection and
innovation.
In a paper entitled “What Information is used by Coaches when Making Decisions During a Match?,” Hayden Croft
(principal lecturer at Otago Polytechnic) presented his research exploring coaches’ use of performance analysis in
rugby and netball. The aim of this project was to use qualitative methods (e.g., content analysis of rugby and netball
coaches’ audio during matches) to capture and analyse coaches’ communication during competition. The aim was to
provide a framework which practitioners can use to design coach-driven PA systems. His findings – broken down
into tactical, technical, physical and psychological themes – also provide an insight into coaches’ communication
under pressure, including the use of robust language and emotional responses.
The day concluded with a series of presentations by experienced practitioners. Feature speakers included Jamie
Tout (VX Sports) who spoke about the traps of sports analysis in his presentation “Don’t be Baffled by the Bullsxxt.”
All Blacks analyst and Blues rugby coach, Alistair Rogers, presented reflections on his career and use of analysis in
“Performance Analysis, A Game Changer? Absolutely!” while HPSNZ analysts Stafford Murray and Deborah Sides
discussed the journey undergone by the PA service within The English Institute of Sport. They presented several
case studies from UK elite sport and concluded that PA should be driven by gaps in performance rather than
technology, and emphasised the importance of an analyst’s interpersonal (soft) skills.
