The STS/ACC Transcatheter Valve Therapy (TVT) Registry captures all procedures with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved transcatheter valve devices performed in the United States and is mandated as a condition of reimbursement by a Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) OBJECTIVES: This annual report focuses on patient characteristics, trends, and outcomes of transcatheter aortic and mitral valve catheter-based valve procedures in the United States. Data for all patients receiving commercially approved devices from 2012 through December 31, 2015 are entered in the TVT Registry. The 54,782 TAVR patients demonstrated decreases in expected risk of 30-day operative mortality (STS PROM) 7% to 6% and TAVR PROM (TVT PROM) 4% to 3% (both p<.0001) from 2012 to 2015. Observed in-hospital mortality decreased from 5.7% to 2.9% and one-year mortality decreased from 25.8% to 21.6. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term follow up of the Pericarbon pericardial bioprosthesis implanted in the mitral position. Between January 1985 and January 1991, 78 patients (26 males, 52 females; mean age 56.9 +/- 7.8 years) underwent isolated mitral valve replacement with a Pericarbon valve. All bioprostheses were size 29 mm and implanted by the same surgeon. Total follow up was 663.2 pt-years and it was 97% complete. Early mortality was 1.3% (1/78); two minor cerebral embolisms were observed as early complications. At 12 years the overall survival rate was 85.0 +/- and valve-related survival 93.1 +/- 3.0%; freedom from embolic events was 83.0 +/- 4.5% and from endocarditis 98.7 +/- 1.3%. Freedom from primary tissue failure was 56.8 +/- 6.6%; it was 86.3 +/- 7.5% in patients aged > 60 years and 36.8 +/- 8.2% in younger patients. Atrial fibrillation is a complication of mitral valve stenosis that causes several adverse neurologic outcomes. Our objective was to establish a mathematical model to predict the risk of atrial fibrillation in patients with mitral stenosis. Of 819 patients with mitral stenosis who were screened, 603 were enrolled in the study and grouped according to whether they were in sinus rhythm or atrial fibrillation. Demographic, echocardiographic, and hemodynamic data were recorded. Logistic regression models were constructed to identify the relative risks for each contributing factor and calculate the probability of developing atrial fibrillation. Objectives: Surgical management of congenital malformation of the mitral valve (MV) in the pediatric age group remains a therapeutic challenge for the wide spectrum of the morphological abnormalities and the high incidence of associated cardiac anomalies. We reviewed our experience so as to assess whether MV conservative surgery is always advisable and its results are superior to MV replacement. Methods:

A 67-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for surgical treatment of the aortic and mitral valvular disease. She had chronic renal failure and dialysis was started 13 years previously. A diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis and regurgitation with severe mitral stenosis was made, and she underwent aortic valve and mitral valve replacement. Because mitral annular calcification had deeply invaded into the subvalvular region, enucleation of calcified core was performed using the ultrasonic aspiration system. The posterior mitral annulus was reconstructed using equine pericardium and aortic and mitral valve replacement was performed. The postoperative course was uneventful.
