Improving reading ability

This study aimed to examine the use of remedial teaching as assistance to children who have difficulty learning to read in school inclusion in SD Negeri Bendungan. This research conducted in the academic year 2015/2016 as research subjects is third grade 4 students who need special attention. Data was collected trough observation and interviews, methods af data data analysis using qualitative methods. The study concluded that, do regular grade levels 1 and 2 are very necessary remedial leraning to help students whose learning disabilities to read, the teacher step to motivate the students to learn on an on going basis and trough the provision of the following tasks: children in order to copy letters through the transparent paper, children were told cut up the letter while observing the differences of each letter, provide drawing which parts were not complete the missing word, gives an example of good read, to give the title of the story and so an the implictions of this research with the letter card playing dominant role of the teacher so that the teacher should be creative.

Comic strip aims the students will be easier to understand about narrative text clearly and interestingly because the media will guide them to improve their reading skill, writing skill and speaking skill in one learning process. This learning process will discuss about the narrative text by using comic strip. All of students will observe the text first, and then they will create their idea to make some monologues and dialogues in the picture that was provided based on the text before in group discussion. The activity will increase the students’ teamwork as well.  At the end of the activity, some of the students in their groups will practice the dialogue that they already made in front of the class by using their gesture, intonation, and others speaking characteristics.

ACTIONS DURING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A READING PROGRAM

This research described the actions of an elementary school principal during the implementation of a reading program.  Eighteen classroom teachers, 3 reading specialists, 3 special education teachers, and 2 administrators participated in the study.

  A mixed-methods approach was used in this study.  Qualitative data were collected using the Level of Use (LoU) interview instrument adapted from the Concern-Based Assessment Measurement (CBAM), and Document Review.  Quantitative data were collected using the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI, Self and Observer) developed by Kouzes and Posner (1999).  The findings of this study identified five important factors, which contributed to the success of the new program implementation.  They were:  Assessments and Data Monitoring, Shared Leadership, Professional Development, Vision, and Professional Learning Communities/Collaboration.
