Gesture Detection

Gesture recognition is the technique
which is used for the interaction between human
and computer or it can be for any automation
implementation purpose. In this paper, we have
made use of the implemented concepts of basic
gesture recognition system and further we propose
a new attachment to this concept i.e. - to convert
these gestures to text and speech. Here we are
comparing hand gestures with the specified
vocabulary of predefined gestures to recognize the
gesture. The paper covers all the necessary idea
and algorithms which help in converting gestures
to text and Speech. The main aim of this paper is to
study and understand the different Algorithms
and tools used in the entire paper, i.e.- it includes
some implemented algorithms for gesture
recognition as a revision and also the use of
proposed algorithms for converting the gestures to
text and speech which are implemented with help
of many API of different programming languages
can be used.

In this world many people suffer from hearing loss (deaf) and speech loss (dumb) that might have occurred since birth or during their lifetime later. It is tedious for the deaf & dumb people to talk with the ordinary people. Peoples with sensory disabilities use their hands, fingers to communicate and have access to the world. Sign language is an expressive way for communication between normal and deaf-dumb people and it is the symbolic representation of words by using hands and fingers in different positions. So ordinary people like us learn the sign language for the purpose of communication. The sign language of deaf and dumb is quite difficult to learn and it is not possible for everybody to learn that language. So every person cannot come and share their thoughts with these physically impaired people. Sign language has the major limitation as it is hard to understand by a normal people, only persons those who know the sign language can able to communicate. So it creates barrier in communication between the impaired and normal people. Hence there must a midway that would perform gesture detection, convert the gestures into speech format (gesture to voice translating module) and converts the speech of normal person to gesture (speech to image translating module) and it is displayed on display. So, the whole idea is to build an android application that enables two way communications between deaf-mute (speech-hearing impaired) person and a normal person. This application uses certain image processing techniques.

This paper is aimed to help Disabled Persons to do their daily routine work without seeking assistance from others. It works in the domain of Humans Computer Interaction (HCI) and image processing, which are key areas of research in computer history. System developers have used different ways to interact with the computer. Hand gestures are very popular because there are number of different gestures that can be use to achieve different tasks and can also be use to communicate with computer systems. Detection of a hand gesture in a real time environment is a critical task where time and memory are important issues. The systems consists of two parts one is the detection of the performed gesture from the live feed, while the other is taking decision on the basis of detected gestures with the help of control hardware. Solution suggested by us has the ability to detect large number of gestures; it is also very intelligent and can be made to learn gestures at run time for user support.
