Front Line Demonstration

A field experiment was conducted at the Farm of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Pampoli, East Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh. The effect of Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) on the growth, yield and contributing nutrient status in tomato. By following a randomized complete block design, 9 treatments with 3 replications were maintained. The study revealed that the integration of organic manures in combination with inorganic fertilizers was found significant in improving the overall plant growth, yield and soil macro nutrient status than the sole application of either of these nutrients. Maximum plant height and number of leaves per plant were observed with treatment 14.33 mt/ha FYM + 7.20 mt/ha Vermicompost + NPK. The earlier of days to 50% flowering was observed in treatment 20 mt/ha FYM. Highest number of fruit clusters, maximum fruit weight and fruit yield (26.74 mt/ha) were recorded in treatment 14.33 mt/ha FYM + 7.20 mt/ha Vermicompost + NPK. The highest available nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium were found in treatment of ½ NPK + 15 mt/ ha vermicompost.

Soybean possesses a very high nutritional value along with high yield potential. It contains about 40% high quality protein and 20% oil. Soybean is the major growing crop (more than two lakhs hectare) during kharif in the district with low productivity i.e. equal or less than 1.4 t/ha. The major reason of low yield of soybean crop was gap between improved package and practices (IP) and farmers practice (FP). The present study was carried out to know this gap along with impact of the front line demonstrations (FLDs) conducted by K.V.K., Jhalawar. It was found that the adoption gap of soybean technologies were more in nutrient management followed by methods of sowing, seed rate, weed management, seed treatment, time of sowing, high yielding varieties, irrigation and plant protection measures. The yield under IP ranged from 1510 to 2350 kg/ha. The per cent increase in yield with IP over FP was recorded in the range of 18.06 to 30.19.

undertaken to find out the yield gap through FLDs on wheat
crop. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, JAU, Amreli(Gujarat) conducted
100 demonstration on wheat since 2006-07 to 2009-10 in
different seven adopted villages. Prevailing farmers’ practices
were treated as control for comparison with recommended
practices. The average four year data observed that an average
yield of demonstrated plot was obtained 43.26 q/ha over control
(36.59q/ha) with an additional yield of 6.67 q/ha and the increase
average wheat productivity by 18.22 per cent. The average
technology gap and index were found to be 6.74 and 13.48 per
cent.

Front line demonstrations (FLD) evolved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research are conducted under the close supervision of scientists of the National Agriculture Research System, where in technologies are demonstrated for the first time by the scientists themselves before being fed in to the main extension system of the state machinery. The present study was undertaken to assess the impact of farmers participatory trials on level of knowledge of farmers about Integrated Crop Management (ICM) tecehnology under Soybean cropping system in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan. Thirty farmers of two villages (which already been identified by KVK, Jhalawar under IVLDP) were identified randomly for this study. Level of knowledge of respondents was measured on three parameters of ICM viz., a) improved crop management practices, b) improved pest management practices, and c) improved wed and rodent management practices. The results indicated that there was remarkable change in the level of knowledge of the soybean growers in all the three aspects of ICM after on-farm trials. The mean knowledge level was increased from 23.33% (pre-exposure) to 78.33% (after exposure) indicating a change of 55.00% in the overall knowledge level of the farmers about ICM.
