Data Migration

Most of the public-sector systems in United State of America are using legacy database systems. The study has been undertaken to investigate the impact of legacy database system in Public Sector. This paper presents research on legacy database system transformation challenges and strategies to overcome them.

In this paper one of the important library management software, Koha has been discussed in details together with its need, features, implementation, customisation, data migration from Libsys to Koha, printer configuration in Koha and RFID integration with Koha.

- Proses migrasi data biasanya dibutuhkan saat adanya perubahan sistem, format, atau tipe storage. Saat
ini telah dikenal beberapa teknik dan kakas untuk melakukan migrasi data, misalnya CSV file, ODBC,
SQLDump dan sebagainya. Sayangnya tidak semua teknik tersebut dapat diimplementasikan untuk migrasi data
antara dua DBMS yang berbeda. Dalam penelitian ini dipaparkan sebuah teknik migrasi data yang dapat
digunakan untuk migrasi data lintas DBMS. Teknik migrasi data yang dipaparkan memanfaatkan metadata yang
ada di masing-masing DBMS. Proses migrasi data yang dipaparkan di sini melalui tiga tahap yaitu capture,
convert dan construct. Sebuah prototype dibangun untuk menguji teknik migrasi data ini. Dengan menggunakan
schema HR dilakukan uji coba migrasi data lintas DBMS antara Oracle dan MySQL. Dengan menggunakan
teknik ini, migrasi data full-schema membutuhkan waktu rata-rata 20,43 detik dari DBMS Oracle ke MySQL dan
12,96 detik untuk skenario sebaliknya. Adapun untuk migrasi data parsial dibutuhkan waktu rata-rata 5,95 detik
dari DBMS Oracle ke MySQL dan 2,19 detik untuk skenario sebaliknya.

Migration of Library Management System (LMS) without the loss of valuable data is a tedious task. There is challenge in data migration, but it also offers opportunity for rectifying existing problems and redesigning the workflow of the library. During the process of system migration a number of improvments and catalog enrichments can be done. Typographical errors and other problems of the catalogue can be rectified during the process of data migration. The article discusses the problems in library catalogue, challenges and opportunities in data migration and various steps to be taken during the system migration. It deals with the feasibility of migration from LibSys to Koha based on the existing system in Kerala State Central Library, Trivandrum one of the largest collections in the country. The study suggests various check points to be fulfilled
during the process of migration. The authors themselves carried out the system evaluation and feasibility analysis for the migration project and have first hand information regarding the process.

This paper will discuss concepts associated with schema-less and implicit schema in NoSQL databases, the paper will also investigate the general principles of conducting data migration in NoSQL databases, ensuring the migrated data matches the implicit-schema.

This paper appraised the implementation process of Koha Integrated Library Management Software (ILMS) at the Babcock University (B.U.) Library, Nigeria. The software installation, data entry and data migration were successfully done and usage of the software began instantly. This study adopted a survey design using questionnaire as the instrument for gathering of data. It enumerates the experiences of B.U. Library in the implementation of Koha ILS using a total of 17 librarians and 24 technical staff that were part of the implementation program to illicit information. When a resource in a data center reaches its end-of-life, instead of investing in upgrading, it is possibly the time to decommission such a resource and migrate workloads to other resources in the data center. Data migration between different cloud servers is risky due to the possibility of data loss. The current studies in the literature do not optimize the data before migration, which could avoid data loss. MapReduce is a software framework for distributed processing of large data sets with reduced overhead of migrating data. For this study, we design a MapReduce based algorithm and introduce a few metrics to test and evaluate our proposed framework. We deploy an architecture for creating an Apache Hadoop environment for our experiments. We show that our algorithm for data migration works efficiently for text, image, audio and video files with minimum data loss and scale well for large files as well.

Safe Country Policies have been a central tool used by states to restrict access to asylum. Despite the salience of such policies for both host states and people seeking protection, we lack a coherent conceptualization of the different types of Safe Country Policies and systematic information on their adoption in all world regions. Aiming to fill these conceptual and empirical gaps, I introduce the Safe Country Policies Dataset (SACOP), which provides original information on the adoption and characteristics of Safe Country Policies in 195 states from 1951 until 2021. Drawing from this dataset, we learn that Safe Country Policies are not only widespread in the Global North but are increasingly being adopted by states in the Global South. The global spread of these policies does not only challenge the principle of responsibility-sharing in asylum governance, but it may also create new patterns of injustice between states in regions that host the bulk of displaced people.

En la actualidad existen aún muchas bases de datos bibliográficas diseñadas en WinIsis sobre formato de intercambio de información CEPAL; sin embargo, la tendencia de los nuevos software de gestión de unidades de información es la utilización del formato MARC21, con el inconveniente de que ambos formatos son incompatibles entre sí. Por eso, el presente documento ofrece una guía para migrar del formato CEPAL al formato MARC21 utilizando una tabla de equivalencias de campos en una FST de exportación. Se construyó, además, una base de datos intermedia en WinIsis donde se vaciaron los datos convertidos. Posteriormente, se describe el proceso de conversión de un archivo de salida ISO2709 a un archivo MARC puro, que puede ser cargado desde cualquier sistema de gestión de unidades de información de última generación. También, se describe el proceso de depuración del mismo utilizando el programa MarcEdit y se realiza un ejemplo de la carga final en la aplicación de automatización EspaBiblio 3.2. Se concluye que todo proceso de migración debe responder a un proyecto previamente definido y la importancia de realizar la depuración para garantizar la pureza de los datos.

At present there are still many bibliographic databases designed in WinIsis on ECLAC exchange format information, however, the trend of new software management information units is the use of MARC21 format, with the drawback that both formats are incompatible with each other. This document provides guidance for migrating from ECLAC format to MARC21 format using a conversion table of fields in a FST export. It also built an intermediate database in which the converted data WinIsis emptied. Subsequently, the process of converting an output file ISO2709 to a file pure MARC, which can be loaded from any system of information management units described generation. It also describes the process of debugging the same program using the MARCEdit and an example of the final charge is made in the application of automation EspaBiblio 3.2. It is concluded that the process of migration to respond to a previously defined project and the importance of debugging to ensure the purity of the data.

In many companies, data migrationprojects fail because their importance and complexity are not taken seriously enough. Dataquality is an important issue for companies looking for data migration these days and should notbe overlooked.  In order to determine the relationship between data quality and data migration,an empirical study with 25 large German and Swiss companies was carried out to find out theimportance of data quality in companies for data migration. In this paper, we present our findingsregarding how data quality plays an important role in a data migration plans and must not beignored. Without acceptable data quality, data migration is impossible.

Large parallel computers require techniques to tolerate the potentially large latencies of accessing re- mote data. Multithreading is one such technique. We extend previous studies of multithreading by investigating its use on the Data Diffusion Machine (DDM), a virtual shared memory machine in which data migrates according to its use. We use a detailed emulator to study DDM's with up to 72 nodes, allowing the scalability of multithreading to be tested further than in other studies. The results are promising and show that the applications tested can all benefit from multithreading on the DDM. Most applica- tions however reach the ceiling of their parallelism. We briefly discuss how the results may generalise to other ar- chitectures.
