This article describes the design and development ofa system for remote indoor 3D monitoring using an undetermined number of Microsoft® Kinect sensors. In the proposed client-server system, the Kinect cameras can be connected to different computers, addressing this way the hardware limitation of one sensor per USB controller. The reason behind this limitation is the high bandwidth needed by the sensor, which becomes also an issue for the distributed system TCP/IP communications. Since traffic volume is too high, 3D data has to be compressed before it can be sent over the network. The solution consists in self-coding the Kinect data into RGB images and then using a standard multimedia codec to compress color maps. Information from different sources is collected into a central client computer, where point clouds are transformed to reconstruct the scene in 3D. An algorithm is proposed to conveniently merge the skeletons detected locally by each Kinect, so that monitoring of people is robust to self and inter-user occlusions. Final skeletons are labeled and trajectories of every joint can be saved for event reconstruction or further analysis.

Data Distribution Service (DDS) is the open standard for messaging using a publisher-subscriber model from Object
Management Group(OMG). DDS fosters the development of loosely coupled, modular and open architecture systems. By
supporting well-defined interfaces between components and subsystems, DDS eradicates stove-pipe, closed and proprietary
architectures. This eliminates complexity to reduce integration, maintenance and upgrade costs; promotes competition at the
subsystem and middleware levels and eases reuse. Multiple implementations of DDS are available, ranging from high-end
commercial on the shelf products to open-source community-supported projects. Every implementation claims to fit in the
standard and provides the best possible parameters for data communication but very few studies on performance analysis,
usability and features exists. The current paper bridges this gap and facilitates middleware selection by proposing a criteria set to
evaluate and compare different DDS Distributions(RTI Connext, Vortex Open Splice, OpenDDS , CoreDx and Eprosima Fast
RTPS)

Middlewares such as CORBA, RMI, DotNet or even DCOM allow the interoperability of the various customers of the company with the server, but their heterogeneity called into question the interoperability of the servers of different enterprises (for instance in a B2B context). In order to solve this problem, we propose a software layer called "meta-middleware". This metamiddleware contains protocolar personalities of the existing middlewares. Its role consists of translating a request in the format of the target middleware. In addition to this meta-middleware layer, it is necessary to extend the existing middlewares with new components. The latter allow intercepting the request sent outside the company and extracting information such as object reference, parameters, name of the invocate method….for transmitting them to meta-middleware.

Modern automotives integrate large amount of electronic devices to improve the driving safety and comfort. This growing number of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) with sophisticated software escalates the vehicle system design complexity. In this paper we explain the complexity of ECUs in terms of hardware and software and also we explore the possibility of Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) architecture for the integration of add-on software in ECUs. This reduces the complexity of the embedded system in vehicles and eases the ECU integration by reducing the total number of ECUs in the vehicles.

Nowadays with improvement in computer science, distributed systems have attracted remarkable attention and increasingly become an indispensable factor in our life. Massive-scale data processing, weather forecasting, industrial control systems, medical science, multi-tire architectures in enterprise applications, and aerospace to name but a few are the cases in point that distributed systems play a notable role. Inter-Process Communication or in a short form, IPC is specified as the heart of all distributed systems, therefore they are not formed without IPC. Numerous methods concerning IPC have been proposed so far that are utilized in diverse circumstances. According to the physical location of communication processes in applications, IPC could be established among either multiple processes on the same computer or several computers across a network. From the communication pattern's perspective, these IPCs can be classified into two broad groups namely, shared memory and message passing. Although, it is not true to say when processes are performed on the same computer definitely employ shared memory to communicate if processes are executed on the different systems they inevitably communicate through message passing. By way of illustration, pipes use message passing patterns to make a connection between various processes but all of the processes are carried out on the same system. The aim of this research is to depict a categorization of the some IPC methods, give a brief description of them, and assess their performance in terms of transferring rate by sending multiple files in different sizes between a client and server. As we expected, socket as the basic IPC, since it does not perform extra operations on the input data to be sent had a desirable performance compared to others. Although, to achieve some of the capabilities, like eliminating platform dependencies and asynchronous communication, it needs to add additional layers that make poor performance.

Dependable distributed systems are difficult to build. This is particularly true if they have dependability requirements that change during the execution of an application, and are built with commercial off-the-shelf hardware. In that case, fault tolerance must be achieved using middleware software, and mechanisms must be provided to communicate the dependability requirements of a distributed application to the system and to adapt the system's configuration to try to achieve the desired dependability. The AQuA architecture allows distributed applications to request a desired level of availability using the Quality Objects (QuO) framework and includes a dependability manager that attempts to meet requested availability levels by configuring the system in response to outside requests and changes in system resources due to faults. The AQuA architecture uses the QuO runtime to process and invoke availability requests, the Proteus dependability manager to configure the system in response to faults and availability requests, and the Ensemble protocol stack to provide group communication services. Furthermore, a CORBA interface is provided to application objects using the AQuA gateway. The gateway provides a mechanism to translate between process-level communication, as supported by Ensemble, and IIOP messages, understood by Object Request Brokers. Both active and passive replication are supported, and the replication type to use is chosen based on the performance and dependability requirements of particular distributed applications

In this paper, we trace out some important traditional and current telecommunications management technologies in terms of their strengths and limitations. We analyze them in order to draw lessons and guidelines for emerging research in this field.

We extend live sequence charts (LSCs), a highly expressive variant of sequence diagrams, and provide the extension with an executable semantics. The extension involves support for instances that can bind to multiple objects and symbolic variables that can bind to arbitrary values. The result is a powerful executable language for expressing behavioral requirements on the level of inter-object interaction. The extension is implemented in full in our play-engine tool, with which one can execute the requirements directly without the need to build or synthesize an intra-object system model. It seems that in addition to many advantages in testing and requirements engineering, for some kinds of systems this could lead to the requirements actually serving as the final implementation.

This paper presents WSOWG, a Web-services-oriented wrapper generator for automatically wrapping non-networked legacy codes as Web services for reuse in distributed problem-solving environments. Using WSOWG, a finite element based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) legacy code has been wrapped as a Web service. A problem-solving environment for simulating incompressible Navier–Stokes flows has also been implemented. A user makes use of the CFD service through a Web page without knowing the exact implementation of the service. In this way, a user's computing environment can be extended to a heterogeneous distributed computing environment. Performance evaluation shows that the overhead to invoke the CFD Web service generated by WSOWG using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and CORBA Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) is reasonable compared with that of invoking another CFD Web service manually wrapped from the CFD legacy code using SOAP only.
