Disputes and claims are a very important issue in project management because they
have a significant impact on the progress of work in construction projects. This study
aims to clarify the principles of the importance of claims and disputes in the
construction sector as well as review the most relevant studies related to this subject
through research Author, research year, research location (country), paper types,
research title, research aim, research tools and techniques and research results. There
are two main types of claim; claims during the execution of project and claims after
completion of the project. The reasons for the claims and disputes belong to the
contractor, the employer and the contract documents. The study concluded that the
main reason for the occurrence of disputes and claims is the lack of efficient
administration of contract management. This study recommends the enactment of laws,
especially the process of dispute arbitration in construction projects

Civil engineering project completion within predetermined time schedule is usually the desire of the client and every other stakeholder. This has been a mirage because project in this case often fails to meet time target as a result of challenges emanating from its various peculiar characteristics. Civil engineering project completion within estimated time target can be achieved by adopting appropriate contractors' selection criteria. This research therefore reflected Quantity Surveyors' and Civil/Structural Engineers' perception on the relevance of contractors' prequalification criteria to time performance of civil engineering project. The purpose was to determine the impact of contractors' selection criteria on time performance of civil engineering project, revealed the contractor prequalification criteria impacting most on time performance of civil engineering project. The primary data used were obtained from construction professionals in consulting, client and contracting organizations engaging in both private and public projects through a well designed questionnaire. Regression analysis and Karl Pearson's coefficient of correlation were employed to evaluate the impact as well as relationship between contractors' prequalification criteria and time performance of civil engineering project. Contractors' prequalification criteria had both positive and negative relationship with time performance of civil engineering project at varying degree of significance. Also, contractors' prequalification criteria significantly impact on and differently predict time performance of civil engineering project. Therefore, prioritizing reputation and past performance as well as strict adherence to the impact order of the set of criteria for contractors' prequalification listed in this study would lead to achievement of civil engineering project that meet time target.

Delay in the completion of a construction project can be a major problem for contractor companies leading to costly disputes and adverse relationships amongst project participants. Projects can be delayed for a large number of reasons. The reasons are related to the various types of uncertainty associated with activities during the construction process. This research was conducted to determine the most important causes of delays within building projects in Indonesia. A questionnaire survey was carried out targeting 89 respondents from large contractors and 23 respondents from small contractors. This research investigates ranking factors from two questionnaires to compute the severity index among various construction projects and ranked each factor according to the percentages of each factor occurrence. Two models constructed using Linear regression (LR) and machine learning (Support Vector Machine) is one of the artificial intelligence systems to fit the given data for all construction projects. First model is developed for time overrun prediction with high accuracy and second model is developed for cost overrun for various construction projects. Check the performance and accuracy of the predicting model by some certain projects of time and cost projects data and check the variation of the results between the actual results and predicted results.

The formal decision making (DM) in construction industry (such as PERT and CPM) is based on theassumption that the participant in the center of the activity takes the responsibility of decision and then pass the results to the next participant. However, in practice, there is an informal DM system for when and how to conduct construction activities simply by establishing a frame of reference based on the Social Network (SN) of specialty trades. Formal DM usually comes with clear objectives for efficiency and effectiveness. On the other hand, the informal DM is usually done through benchmarking and copying the best performer in the SN. In this paper, we illustrate how the informal DM is done in construction projects and show how it can provide easy and reliable steps for improving performance. A fast-track residential construction project ($2.5M, duration: 6 month) from Raleigh area, NC, involving eleven major specialty trades was studied. We use two complementary approaches to explain the informal DM in the construction projects: Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach to focus on the optimum directions and trajectories and the SN approach to emphasize the relative positions and relationships within a group. The findings will tell us how the informal DM is done in a construction project and whom should be copied by an underperforming specialty trade to reach better performance.

The objective of this study is to examine the impact of client, consultant and contractor related factors on mismanagement in public and private contracts in the region of Indonesia. A structural questionnaire is developed for the selected items after detailed investigation of present literature. A final sample of 137 respondents associated with various contracts in the region of Indonesia is collected with demographic details and regression analysis. It is observed that factors like lack of strategy, failure to compile the documentary requirements, poor planning, delay in decision making , financial issues, late payments, difficulty in getting work permits and lack of management expertise are core issues, creating mismanagement in public and private contracts. In consultant related factors, role of inexperienced consultant, poor planning, late of instructions from architects, poor contract management, and poor-quality assurance are the key determinants of mismanagement in contracts. While contractor related factors like poor planning and scheduling, late or improper submission of contract, inadequate site supervision and inspection, poor construction methods, weak leadership, and lack of communication between the parties are the key indicators of mismanagement in contracts. As per significance, this study is found to be a reasonable addition in the present literature from the context of contract management. Originality of the study covers the significant findings for the policy makers in the field of public and private contracts. Study can be reworked in future through better sampling, and addition of more factors related to materials, equipment and labor causing for the poor delivery of the contracts.

Delays are one of the biggest problems faced by construction firms. The objectives of this study are to identify non-excusable delay factors, their effects on project completion and means of minimising these delays. A questionnaire survey was conducted to solicit the causes, effects and methods of minimising delays with two groups of respondents: consultants and contractors. Data were collected and analysed using a weighted mean method. A total of 57 major factors that cause non-excusable delays were identified from the reviewed literature and were further classified into eight major groups. The findings of this study revealed 20 key factors that cause non-excusable delays. The resultant effects of non- excusable delays are time overrun, cost overrun and disputes, among others. Contractor is the service provider directly connected to the project implementation which have the responsibilities to be completed such as time, cost and quality with have to be equal to the contract document. Aceh Watering Construction of Public Service Institution is one of government institutions responsible in developing country development especially in watering construction infrastructure. This study aims to analyze the factors of contractor performance affecting stakeholder satisfaction in Aceh Watering Construction Institution. The independent variables used in this study are tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy, while stakeholder satisfaction become the dependent variable. Based on reliability test to 53 respondents' questioner, it is obtained that cronbach alpha coefficient is 0.470 – 0.834 which show the reliability of the questioner. Based on the correlation analysis, it is obtained that assurance factor has relationship with stakeholder satisfaction which value is 0.439, it means that it has significant relationship or the relationship is medium. By using multiple linear regression analysis, it is obtained that assurance factor affects stakeholder satisfaction in Aceh Watering Construction Institution.

Hence, this study focused on the investigation of risk factors from contractors ’ perspective as the contractors are key players in the success of a project. The scope of this study was limited to Batu Pahat and Muar districts only. Data were gathered using structured questionnaire survey from contractors registered with Pusat Khidmat Kontraktor (PKK). Investigations on the risk factor involved 25 common risk factors classified in five categories, which were identified through literature works. Statistical methods were used to analyse the data. Imbalance between anticipated and actual progress in the development of urban construction projects suggests that there are many obstacles and risks which not only causes the urban management be unsustainable, but the reconstruction and development of urban space is also seriously threatened. In this study, the library research on issues related to the risk of construction projects was done, then some interviews were conducted with experts and managers informed and involved in the projects, and finally questionnaires were distributed to identify and classify the impact of the risks of the implementation of the construction projects. After analyzing the data, the results indicated that the experts listed the most significant risks as the delays in the payment of contractors claims and statements due to the lack of handling financial instruments, the governance of relationships rather than rules in the tenders resulting from employer actions, low commitment to the quality of work provided by their subcontractors, failure to complete the detail engineering by foreign contractors on time, weaknesses in contractors financial resources, and offering lower prices than reasonable by contractors to win the tender. All of these require special attention and other kinds of risks are important at the next level. Finally, the solutions for eliminating or reducing risks in high-risk areas have been offered to provide tranquility for contractors and employers.

To embark on any housing project, a developer needs to have support from various parties. The housing and construction industries are interrelated; they are in a relationship where construction plays a major part in the development process. Housing developers need to have strong support from the contractor, consultant, and suppliers (CCS) in completing their project. Studying the CCS selection methods can enhance the knowledge on the application of the social network theory (SNT) in the housing industry. Questionnaires were posted to 600 private housing developers (PHDs) and 54 were returned.
