Contourlet Transform

In diagnosis of medical images, operations such as feature extraction and object recognition plays the key role.. These operations will become difficult if the images are corrupted with noises. Several types of noise were introduced in the images during image acquisition, transfer & storage. The main objective is to remove the noise from the input image. Image Denoising is an utmost challenge for Researchers, developing Image denoising algorithms is a difficult task, since fine details in a medical image should not be destroyed during noise removal during the diagnosis of information. Medical image focuses on the speckle noise. So, several denoising filters are implemented and performance are compared to find the optimum filter. To the input image noise is added and various filtering are applied to remove the noise. The filters used are Wiener filter, Adaptive Fuzzy filter and Vector Median Filter. The frequency domain is used to improve the quality of the denoising method. As the first step Contourlet transform is applied to the noisy image. Further, several filters are applied on the transformed image for the effective removal of noise. The performance of the filters are compared based on PSNR, SSIM, IQI.

As multisensory data is made available in many areas such as remote sensing, medical imaging, etc, the sensor fusion has become a new field for research. Multisensor image fusion mainly focuses on combining spatial information of a high resolution panchromatic (PAN) image with spectral information of a low resolution multispectral image (MS) to produce an image with highest spatial content while preserving spectral resolution. A geometrical transform called contourlet transform (CT) is introduced, which represents images containing contours and textures. This paper derived an efficient block based feature level contourlet transform with neural network (BFCN) model for image fusion. The proposed BFCN model integrates CT with neural network (NN), which plays a significant role in feature extraction and detection in machine learning applications. In the proposed BFCN model, the two fusion techniques, CT and NN are discussed for fusing the IRS-1D images using LISS III scanner about the locations Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Mahaboobnagar and Patancheru in Andhra Pradesh, India. Also Landsat 7 image data and QuickBird image data are used to perform experiments on the proposed BFCN model. The features under study are contrast visibility, spatial frequency, energy of gradient, variance and edge information. Feed forward back propagation neural network is trained and tested for classification, since the learning capability of NN makes it feasible to customize the image fusion process. The trained NN is then used to fuse the pair of source images. The proposed BFCN model is compared with other techniques to assess the quality of the fused image. Experimental results clearly prove that the proposed BFCN model is an efficient and feasible algorithm for image fusion.

Image denoising has become an essential exercise in medical imaging especially the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). This paper proposes a medical image denoising algorithm using contourlet transform. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm can obtained higher peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) than wavelet based denoising algorithms using MR Images in the presence of AWGN.

Texture represents spatial or statistical repetition in pixel intensity and orientation. Brain tumor is an abnormal cell or tissue forms within a brain. In this paper, a model based on texture feature is useful to detect the MRI brain tumor images. There are two parts, namely; feature extraction process and
classification. First, the texture features are extracted using techniques like Curvelet transform, Contourlet transform and Local ternary pattern (LTP). Second, the supervised learning algorithm like Deep neural network (DNN) is used to classify the brain tumor images. The Experiment is performed on a collection of 1000 brain tumor images with different orientations. Experimental results reveal that contourlet transform technique provides better than curvelet transform and Local ternary pattern.

In recent years, advances in information technology and telecommunications have played a crucial role as catalysts for
significant developments in the sector of healthcare. These technological advances have played a very strong role in
the field of medical imaging. The number of digital medical images has increased rapidly on the Internet. The necessity
of fast and secure diagnosis is vital in the medical world. The purpose of medical image compression is express
medical images with less data so that it can be efficiently stored and transmitted. Diagnosis is effective only when
compression techniques preserve all the relevant and important image information needed. There are basically two
types of image compression: lossless and lossy. Lossless coding does not permit high compression ratios where as lossy
achieve high compression ratio. Among the existing lossy compression schemes, transform coding is one of the most
effective strategies. This paper summarizes the different compression methods based on transforms like Discrete Cosine
Transform(DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), Hybrid DCT-DWT and Contourlet transform. And it has been
analyzed that Contourlet transform have superior overall performance over other transforms in terms of PSNR.

This paper presents a new compression technique and image watermarking algorithm based on Contourlet Transform (CT). For image compression, an energy based quantization is used. Scalar quantization is explored for image watermarking. Double filter bank structure is used in CT. The Laplacian Pyramid (LP) is used to capture the point discontinuities, and then followed by a Directional Filter Bank (DFB) to link point
discontinuities. The coefficients of down sampled low pass version of LP decomposed image are re-ordered in a
pre-determined manner and prediction algorithm is used to reduce entropy (bits/pixel). In addition, the coefficients of CT are quantized based on the energy in the particular band. The superiority of proposed algorithm to JPEG is observed in terms of reduced blocking artifacts. The results are also compared with wavelet transform (WT). Superiority of CT to WT is observed when the image contains more contours. The
watermark image is embedded in the low pass image of contourlet decomposition. The watermark can be
extracted with minimum error. In terms of PSNR, the visual quality of the watermarked image is exceptional.
The proposed algorithm is robust to many image attacks and suitable for copyright protection applications.

There is always a need for more memory and enhanced security for transmission. Image compression has gained importance because it reduces the storage space with the only acceptable amount of degrading in quality. Also, cryptographic techniques are used to provide security during transmission. In this project, an efficient compression and cryptographic model for image transmission are proposed. An input image of any format is converted into a grayscale image and Wavelet-Based Contourlet Transform (WBCT) is applied. Wavelets have the capability of approximation of images with sharp discontinuities, but they are not efficient for the approximation of images with a smooth contour. Contourlet transform uses Laplacian pyramidal decomposition and a directional filter bank to produce effective and powerful multiresolution and directional decomposition of an image. Together Wavelets and Contourlet Transform makes an image suitable for image compression. Huffman coding is used for lossless compression of data (image). This compressed image is encrypted using ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). ECC has its own advantages such as smaller keys with enhanced security, requires less computing power, battery life, and memory. The ECC decryption algorithm will perfectly recover the original image. The work is implemented by using MATLAB. The compression ratio is 4.2 to 5 and PSNR value in the range of 24-32.

In this paper, we propose new offline signature Identification and Verification based on the contourlet coefficient as the feature extractor and Support Vector Machine (SVM) as the classifier. In projected method, first signature image is normalized based on size. After pre-processing, contourlet coefficients are computed on particular scale and direction using contourlet transform in feature extraction. After feature extraction, all extracted coefficients are feed to a layer of SVM classifiers as feature vector. The number of SVM classifiers is equal to the number of classes. Each SVM classifier determines if the input image belongs to the resultant class or not. Proposed methodology implemented using MATLAB R2009a software tool. The research is on standard GPDS960 English signature database, based on this experiment, we achieve a 94% identification rate.

contourlet transform feature techniques for digital watermarking is proposed in this paper, now a day’s watermarking technique is powerful technique for security of copyright by hiding information, the input image is partitioned with different features are the combination of anisotropy and directionality using contourlet transform. In contourlet transform the image is decomposed with the help of laplacian pyramid and directional filter bank.  In laplacian pyramid highest features are taken using low pass filter. After that given watermark image is inserted in low content part of the decomposed image. Band pass filter can be extract in noise image from the output image, based on contourlet transform can gives better PSNR and MSE as compared to existing techniques.

Recently, contourlet transform has been widely used in hyperspectral image fusion due to its advantages, such as high directionality and anisotropy; and studies show that the contourlet-based fusion methods perform better than the existing conventional methods including wavelet-based fusion methods. Few studies have been done to comparatively analyze the performance of contourlet-based fusion methods;
furthermore, no research has been done to analyze the contourlet-based fusion methods by focusing on their unique transform mechanisms. In addition, no research has focused on the original contourlet transform and its upgraded versions. In this paper, we investigate three different kinds of contourlet
transform: i) original contourlet transform, ii) nonsubsampled contourlet transform, iii) contourlet transform with sharp frequency localization. The latter two transforms were developed to overcome the major drawbacks of the original contourlet transform; so it is necessary and beneficial to see how they perform in the context of hyperspectral image fusion. The results of our comparative analysis show that the latter two transforms perform better than the original contourlet transform in terms of increasing spatial resolution and  preserving spectral information

Multimodal medical image fusion is a powerful tool in clinical applications such as noninvasive diagnosis, image-guided radiotherapy, and treatment planning. In this paper, a novel nonsubsampled Contourlet transform (NSCT) based method for multimodal medical image fusion is presented, which is approximately shift invariant and can effectively suppress the pseudo- Gibbs phenomena. The source medical images are initially transformed by NSCT followed by fusing low- and high-frequency components. The phase congruency that can provide a contrast and brightness-invariant representation is applied to fuse lowfrequency coefficients, whereas the Log-Gabor energy that can efficiently determine the frequency coefficients from the clear and detail parts is employed to fuse the high-frequency coefficients. The proposed fusion method has been compared with the discrete wavelet transform (DWT), the fast discrete curvelet transform (FDCT), and the dual tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) based image fusion methods and other NSCT-based methods. Visually and quantitatively experimental results indicate that the proposed fusionmethod can obtainmore effective and accurate fusion results ofmultimodalmedical images than other algorithms. Further, the applicability of the proposed method has been testified by carrying out a clinical example on a woman affected with recurrent tumor images.

– Palmprint recognition is an accepted and widely used biometric. Richness of feature and the less cost involved in acquisition make it more reliable and user friendly. The region of interest is extracted from the palmprint image as a preprocessing step. Contourlet transform, a pyramidal directional filter bank is then applied to capture both local and global details of the palmprint. The large number of coefficients generated from the contourlet transform are minimised as a dimensionality reduction process, by calculating energies for each subband. Palmprint matching is then performed using nearest neighbor classifier.

Fire detection has long been an important research topic in image processing and pattern recognition, while smoke is a vital indication of fire’s existence. However, current smoke detection algorithms are far from meeting the requirements of practical applications. One major reason is that the existing methods can not distinguish smoke from fog because their colors and shapes are both very similar. This paper proposes a novel texture analysis based algorithm which has the ability to classify smoke and fog more efficiently. First the texture images are decomposed using Contourlet Transform (CT), and then we extract the feature vector from Contourlet coefficients, finally we make use of Support Vector Machine (SVM) to classify the textures. With the advances in medical science there have been a various of techniques that have been emerged in order detect the disease like cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most common disease that occurs in majority of women. In the few decades a lot of research has been occurred on breast cancer for it’s detection. Breast cancer occurs due to the collection of mass or calcium deposit such as microcalcifications in the breast. This paper represents the various analysis steps used to classify the microcalcifications in mammogram images. This steps includes preprocessing, segmentation, characterization and classification. The proposed system represented within this paper consists of three main steps. The first step of the proposed system is used to transform the parameters by decomposing the into multiple subbands using nonsubsampled contourlet transform. After decomposing the image the edges of the image are detected using the prewitt operator. The second step of the proposed system is modification in which the subbands of the decomposed image are modified. The last step of the proposed system is reconstruction in which the modified subbands are used to reconstruct the enhanced image. The input database that has been used for classification of microcalcifications is MAIS database. The results shows an improved image which is effective for the classification of microcalcifications in mammograms.
