Richness of feature and the less cost involved in acquisition make it more reliable and user friendly. The region of interest is extracted from the palmprint image as a preprocessing step. Contourlet transform, a pyramidal directional filter bank is then applied to capture both local and global details of the palmprint. The large number of coefficients generated from the contourlet transform are minimised as a dimensionality reduction process, by calculating energies for each subband. Palmprint matching is then performed using nearest neighbor classifier.

Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease damaging the soft tissue that untreated can lead to loss of bone, which supports the teeth. The severity of periodontitis is correlated to pocket depth in alveolar area. Even if analyses of the pocket depth can be manually performed, an automatic assistive tool can drastically help radiologists conduct more accurate analyses. In the proposed research, image processing algorithms were developed to compute pocket depth and diagnose the periodontitis. Radiologists manually segmented 350 panoramic radiographic images, dividing them into normal and periodontitis. The same dataset is used in our work to validate the Classification algorithm. A novel circuit for linearisation of thermocouple signals using Analog - to - Digital converter (... more A novel circuit for linearisation of thermocouple signals using Analog - to - Digital converter (ADC) is proposed. The present method utilises the ratiometric property of ADCs and the converter performs analog to digital conversion as well as linearisation. The resulting circuit also has provision for scaling the linearised digital output to obtain a desired full-scale value. Computational studies carried out on method proposed gives satisfactory results for thermocouples with monotonic concave upward and downward characteristics.

A simple and low cost instrument using a non-contact type transducer is proposed which quantifies... more A simple and low cost instrument using a non-contact type transducer is proposed which quantifies the hand tremor characteristic of patients having neurological disorders. The transducer has been developed based on the principle of differential capacitance. The subject's hand under tremor, when introduced in between the plates of a parallel plate capacitive arrangement will result in capacitance change. Suitable signal conditioning circuits have been designed to extract the cardinal informations such as intensity and the frequency of the tremor. The experiments performed with the prototype reveal that the measurement is reliable when the observed data are averaged over several samples taken at different instants of time. These data may be acquired into a PC, wherein a built in knowledge base available, will be used for a medical expert system to diagnose the neurological disorders.

Face image retrieval is still a challenging task since face images can vary considerably in terms of facial expressions, lighting conditions etc. In feature based image retrieval methods, the accuracy depends on the discrimination power of the features. In this work, orthogonal moments were employed as features for the retrieval task. Due to the orthogonal property, these moments are inherently non-redundant exhibiting good image representation capability. Racah moments defined in a non-uniform lattice are proved to be better than other orthogonal moments in terms of reconstruction error. Face image retrieval using Racah moment features has been extensively experimented with YALE face database and FERET Database. The results reveal the efficacy of orthogonal moment descriptors.

Palmprint matching is considered in this paper for effective identification of persons. Palmprint matching is performed based on Zernike moments feature descriptors and the classification using Modified Adaboost classifiers. Since, Zernike moments have the property of geometrical invariance, they are superior in image representative capability. From the experimental results, it has been observed that Zernike moments achieve superior performance than the other well-known moments.

Researchers have used many methods of feature extraction for ancient Tamil character recognition. In this paper we proposed a novel feature extraction technique to improve the recognition results of two similar shaped ancient Tamil characters. In this work, we have taken the samples of offline ancient Tamil characters from six different centuries. Thetechnique is based on F-ratio (Fisher Ratio), a statistical measure defined by the ratio between-class variance and within-class variance.F-ratio modifies the feature vector of two similar shape characters by weighting the feature elements. The enormous growth of the internet and the wide use of digital data have increased the need for both efficient image database creation and retrieval procedure. This paper describes a new approach for texture classification by combining statistical texture features of Local Binary Pattern and Texture spectrum. Since most significant information of a texture often appears in the high frequency channels, the features are extracted by the computation of LBP and Texture Spectrum and Legendre Moments. Euclidean distance is used for similarity measurement. The experimental result shows that 97.77% classification accuracy is obtained by the proposed method.

Palmprint is widely considered like fingerprint, for the common features like ridges. It also differs from fingerprint because of its texture based in nature rather than minutiae based. In preprocessing ROI is extracted from the palmprint using a new methodology. Contoulet transform is applied to capture the features before calculating the Zernike moments. Matching is performed by using k-fold cross validation. Since, Contourlet transform is having the property of capturing high dimensional features from multidirectional and Zernike moments have the property of geometrical invariance, they are superior in image representative capability. From the experimental results, it has been observed that Contourlet Transform combined with Zernike moments achieve superior performance than the other well-known models.

In our work, Segmentation of lung region is done by watershed Segmentation and feature extraction of the segmented lung region is done by five different transform methods the Multi resolution approach (MRA). The Performance of different MRA techniques like discrete cosine transforms (DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Shearlet Transform (DST), Curvelet Transform (CT) and Bandlet Transform (BT) for feature extraction of the lung region in CXR is analyzed by using various statistical parameters. The performance evaluation of all this transform is done for 247 images in Japanese Scientific Research database (JSRT) database and bests of this method which give good Feature descriptor is analyzed.
