Đoàn Thị Cẩm Hồng và Nguyễn Trịnh Nhất Hằng Viện Cây ăn quả miền Nam TÓM TẮT Xoài là một trong những loại cây ăn quả quan trọng được trồng phổ biến vùng Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long. Bao quả xoài là một trong những biện pháp hạn chế sử dụng thuốc bảo vệ thực vật hiệu quả trong việc sản xuất xoài theo hướng an toàn. Nghiên cứu ảnh hưởng của vật liệu bao quả đến năng suất và phẩm chất xoài Cát Chu được thực hiện tại Cao Lãnh, Đồng Tháp từ năm 2013 đến 2014. Vào giai đoạn 35 ngày sau khi đậu quả, tiến hành bao quả với các vật liệu bao khác nhau như bao giấy 2 mặt của Thái Lan, bao không thấm nước của Đài Loan, bao Bikoo của Nhật và bao nylon trắng. Kết quả thí nghiệm ghi nhận các loại bao giấy hai mặt, bao giấy không thấm nước, bao Bikoo làm hạn chế sự rụng quả do côn trùng gây hại, tăng độ sáng bóng của vỏ quả khi thu hoạch và khi chín, gia tăng năng suất quả. Backpack carrying is a considerable daily " occupational" load among schoolchildren. Most of the research on children's backpacks have focused on gait pattern and trunk forward lean; only a few researches have investigated the impact of backpack carrying on children using the measurements of static posture and gait kinetics. This study investigated the changes in ground reaction force (GRF) and trunk inclination among primary students when carrying heavy backpacks. A randomized controlled experimental study was conducted on seven boys aged between 9 and 11 years old with a similar body mass index. Observations were done when the boys were carrying school bags of 0% ( as control), 10%, 15%, and 20% of their own body weight while walking normally. Data acquisition was carried out using force platforms and a 3D motion analysis system. A significant difference in GRF at a load of 20% of body weight was found: the vertical GRF increased almost three times when loads increased up to 20% of body weight compared to 10% of body weight. The anterior-posterior GRFs were asymmetrical when loads were increased. When carrying a load of 15% of body weight, all of the seven subjects adopted a compensatory trunk inclination. The emphasis on GRF and trunk inclination suggests that the safest load applied does not exceed 15% of body weight.

We assessed the effects of vitreousness and particle size of maize grain on ruminal and intestinal in sacco degradation of dry matter, starch and nitrogen. Various methods may be used for temporary closure of the abdomen. Use of the "Bogota bag" (BB) technique for abdominal closure has been reported primarily in the management of injuries. This review describes our experience using the BB technique in cases of secondary peritonitis. Abdomenal closure using BB was reviewed retrospectively in 152 patients with secondary peritonitis. Of the 152 cases of BB use reviewed, 79 patients had complications of previous abdominal operations, 57 had secondary peritonitis, 14 had complications of abdominal trauma, and 2 were cases of mesenteric events. The BB remained in situ from 1 to 19 days. Changes occurred between 1 and 11 times per patient (mean, 2.8). In nine patients, early diagnosis of leaking of small bowel content under the bag was noted, and 36 patients (24%) died from sepsis. ABSTRACT Experiments were carried out in the laboratory with the aim of accessing the effectiveness and parasitism by Trichogramma evanescens to prevent Corcyra cephalonica from infesting rice in paper and jute bags. Eight small jute or paper bags filled with 5 kg of organic rice grains were prepared and the openings sealed. Sentinel egg cards were prepared with thirty fresh eggs of C. cephalonica glued on to small pieces of paper cardboard. Eight sentinel egg cards were introduced into a plastic box measuring 60 × 40 × 21 cm, i.e four cards on top surface of the bag and the box bottom, respectively. Approximately 500 adults of T. evanescens were released 10–30 cm away from the egg cards. The control boxes contained no parasitoids; there were five replicates for all treatments and controls. Two experimental conditions were tested, i) placing a single T. evanescens-release unit with sentinel egg cards placed every 3–4 days without any further replacement of the release unit for three weeks, ii) both new host eggs and T. evanescens release units were replaced every 3–4 days. Mean emergence of C. cephalonica was significantly (p > 0.001) suppressed by the release of T. evanescens. There was statistically no significant difference on the number of emerged moths on paper bag compared to jute bag. All sentinel egg patches were visited by T. evanescens. There was no correlation between the distance (10–30 cm) at which the sentinel egg cards were placed away from the T. evanescens release point and the number of parasitized C. cephalonica eggs. There was no decrease in parasitism over time. The results demonstrate that T. evanescens has the potential for host-location ability and parasitism of C. cephalonica both on paper and jute bags. This parasitoid could be a promising candidate for the biological control of moth pests in bagged stored products.

This paper describes, for the first time, the cytogenetic characteristics of some South Atlantic nereidid polychaetes, collected in Paranagua Bay, southeast Brazil. Mitotic chromosomes were obtained from regenerative tissue after amputation of the posterior tips of the animals. Seven species, of five genera, were analyzed: 1) Platynereis dumerilii (2n=28; FN=56), which is considered cosmopolitan but is suspected to be a species-complex. Karyotypic divergences were detected when comparing chromosome morphology and NOR distribution from Parana and North American populations (2n=28; FN=56), 2) Perinereis vancaurica (2n=28; FN=56), P. anderssoni (2n=28; FN=56) and P. ponteni (2n=28; FN=54). Karyotypes and NOR distribution allowed us to relate P. anderssoni (Parana, Brazil) to P. macropus (Italy), the former showing a derived karyotype. ABSTRACT Cataract is frequently associated with vitreoretinal diseases. Moreover, cataract is also a constant complication of vitrectomy in patients over 50 years. Its occurrence may be very early, especially when internal tamponade is used. For these reasons, a combined procedure including phacoemulsification and vitrectomy accelerates functional rehabilitation of patients, avoiding the need for a second operation. Interventions, their tricks and indications, are described for epimacular membranes, macular holes, diabetic retinopathy and macular hematoma. Combined surgery is a safe and effective procedure whose results are comparable to those of sequential surgery.

Bananas have a short shelf life after ethylene treatment and there is a high commercial demand to increase the storage life of individual clusters at the retail stage. To extend the shelf life of ethylene-pretreated banana, two different forms of modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) were used. In the first, individual clusters of ethylene-pretreated bananas were stored in a range of microperforated polyethylene (PE) bags (25 μm) creating various MAPs. Storage in PE bags with low microperforation (PE8) that created an atmosphere with 11% CO2 and 12% O2 was the most effective treatment for delaying banana ripening. The banana clusters kept firmer with nice peel color after 1 week at 20 °C, but the humidity inside the bags caused some decay development on the crown cut. Herein we report on the abundance and composition of floating marine debris (FMD) in coastal waters of the SE-Pacific (off the Chilean coast) during the austral summer 2002. The observed FMD consisted mainly of plastic material (86.9%). Densities of FMD were highest between 20°S and 40°S, corresponding to the main concentrations of human population and activities. Low densities of FMD were found in the south between 40°S and 50°S (<1 item km−2). Generally, the highest densities were recorded in nearshore waters of major port cities (>20 items km−2), but occasionally high concentrations of debris were also found 50 km offshore. Densities of FMD in coastal waters of the SE-Pacific are of similar magnitudes as those found in coastal waters or inland seas of highly populated regions in the northern hemisphere, indicating the need for improved regulation and legislation in the countries of the SE-Pacific.
