The Internet of Things (IoT) is advancing and the adoption of internet-connected devices in everyday use is constantly growing. This increase not only affects the traffic from other sources in the network, but also the communication quality requirements, like Quality of Service (QoS), for the IoT devices and applications. With the rise of dynamic network management and dynamic network programming technologies like Software-Defined Networking (SDN), traffic management and communication quality requirements can be tailored to fit niche use cases and characteristics. We propose a publish/subscribe QoS-aware framework (PSIoT-SDN) that orchestrates IoT traffic and mediates the allocation of network resources between IoT data aggregators and pub/sub consumers. The PSIoT framework allows edge-level QoS control using the features of publish/ subscribe orchestrator at IoT aggregators and, in addition, allows network-level QoS control by incorporating SDN features coupled with a bandwidth allocation model for network-wide IoT traffic management. The integration of the framework with SDN allows it to dynamically react to bandwidth sharing enabled by the SDN controller, resulting in better bandwidth distribution and higher link utilization for IoT traffic.

MPLS-TE (Multiprotocol Label Switching -Traffic Engineering) and
DiffServ are technical alternatives used to support Traffic Engineering and
QoS-demanding applications, running on multimedia multiservice networks.
This paper proposes the MinPreptDSTE and the ADAPT-RDM algorithms,
suitable to allocate LSPs in DiffServ-aware MPLS Traffic Engineering (DSTE)
networks, which use the RDM (Russian Dolls Model) bandwidth
constraint model. The operation of the proposed algorithms is integrated. The
MinPreptDSTE tries to minimize the number of preemptions on the network by
selecting paths considering classes types (CTs) configuration and the RDM
model itself. The ADAPT-RDM algorithm preserves hierarchical CTs
priorities and efficient resource utilization in the RDM model, by
implementing bandwidth sharing among different CTs. The paper describes
the proposed algorithms and evaluates their results considering different
implementation scenarios.
Resumo. MPLS-TE (Multiprotocol Label Switching -Traffic Engineering) e
DiffServ são alternativas técnicas usadas para suportar a Engenharia de
Tráfego e as aplicações dependentes da qualidade de serviço (QoS),
comumente encontradas nas redes multimídia e multiserviço. Este artigo
propõe os algoritmos MinPreptDSTE e ADAPT-RDM para a alocação de
LSPs em redes DS-TE (DiffServ-aware MPLS Traffic Engineering) baseadas
no modelo de restrição de banda RDM (Russian Dolls Model). A operação dos
algoritmos propostos é integrada. O algoritmo MinPreptDSTE busca
minimizar a quantidade de preempções com uma seleção de caminhos que
considera as configurações das classes de tráfego (CTs) e o modelo RDM. O
ADAPT-RDM visa a preservação das prioridades das classes de tráfego (CTs)
mais hierárquicas (com maior valor numérico) e o uso mais eficiente dos
recursos no modelo RDM, através da implementação de uma estratégia de
gerência de banda compartilhada entre CTs. O artigo descreve os algoritmos
e avalia os seus resultados para diferentes cenários de implantação.
