The Art of Caring: The Lived Experiences and Challenges Faced by Healthcare Workers Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic2022 •
Healthcare workers were among the primary sectors that stood on the frontline amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. They play a significant role in giving medical aid and services, especially at the time when the world requires them the most. In addition, because of their direct exposure to the pandemic, they faced a variety of challenges, including physical risk from excessive workloads, psychological distress, and financial difficulties. This study explores the lived experiences and challenges faced by healthcare workers amidst the COVID 19 pandemic, specifically: (1) to describe the experiences of healthcare workers amidst the COVID 19 pandemic; (2) to describe the challenges faced by healthcare workers amidst the COVID 19 pandemic; and (3) to describe their coping strategies. Given that, the study utilized an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) with ten (10) respondents from the community. Based on the study, the findings are the following: (1) All of the respondents were physically challenged. Specifically, the extreme risk and challenges brought by the pandemic caused numbers of healthcare workers to leave the job, which further resulted in an excessive number of workloads among those who stayed. (2) Aside from being physically challenged, the respondents were also psychologically distressed, which is mostly brought on by the fear of carrying and transmitting the disease among their family and community. Moreover, receiving insufficient benefits causes all of the respondents to feel unsatisfied with the compensation they received after putting in an extreme amount of work and exerting great effort on their job. Regardless, they maintained a strong and tough attitude to cope with the challenging call of duty amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, (3) seeking emotional, social, and financial support to cope with the negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic provides a great help among the healthcare workers in such a time as the pandemic.

Impacts of COVID-19: A research agenda to support people in their fight2020 •
Grounded in the vast changes to work life (jobs) and home life that people are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic (hereinafter COVID), this article presents five research directions related to COVID's impacts on jobs-i.e., job loss, job changes, job outcomes, coping, and support-and five research directions related to COVID's impact on home life-i.e., home life changes, children, life-related outcomes, social life, and support. In addition to this, I discuss overarching possible research directions and considerations for researchers, editors, and reviewers, as we continue our scientific journey to support people through this pandemic and beyond. I organize these directions and considerations into two sets of five each: focal groups that should be studied-i.e., underprivileged populations, different countries and cultural contexts, women (vs. men), workers in healthcare (frontline workers), elderly and at-risk-and five general issues and special considerations-i.e., role of technology as the oxygen, pre-vs. mid-vs. post-COVID studies, constraints on data collection/research due to COVID, evolution of COVID, and focus on contextualization (generalizability is irrelevant).

World of Change: Reflections within an educational and health care perspective in a time with COVID-19Background: Besides handling the physical impacts of COVID-19 there is more than ever a need to understand what can help when mental health is challenged. Within this context our practical wisdom – our ability to understand and recognise when ‘the other’, for example the patient, is feeling lonely or anxious is particularly important. Aim: This article aims to contribute to the understanding of how the competence of health professionals may be advanced by helping them develop the self-understanding essential to being wise practitioners. Method: The article is based on a discussion informed by reflections (written in Danish and translated into English) by Masters students (and registered nurses) participating in a university programme “Patient and user focused nursing”. Findings: The first part of the article considers a student nurse’s reflection on understanding herself and one of her patients. The second part considers reflections on the contemporary world of change from a student...

At a global level on March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 virus a pandemic and highlighted the need to activate and expand emergency response mechanisms worldwide to stop it. In Ecuador, the Ministry of Public Health issued on March 11, 2020, the Ministerial Agreement No. 00126-2020 and established the State of Sanitary Emergency; subsequently, on March 13, President Moreno decreed a State of Emergency; and, with this, the National Emergency Operations Committee -EOCwas activated to coordinate the health crisis due to the effects of this pandemic on vulnerable groups, foreigners residing in Ecuador, as well as people living in extreme poverty. This work aims to provide a psychosocial contribution to work with children and adolescents (CA), contemporary adults and older adults during the confinement generated by COVID-19 and serves to respond assertively to psychosocial emanations and effects that are not only relevant to the health field. COVID-19: An Organizational-theory-guided Holistic Self-caring and Resilience Project2021 •
Purpose: In response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) global human caring crisis, this article describes an innovative, theory-guided, holistic practice project at a major academic medical center in Northern California. The purpose of this theory-guided COVID-19 project was to address the self-care needs of caregivers so they could better care for patients/families who are confronting daily pandemic demands. Study design: The organization's professional practices are guided by Watson's theory of human caring and Caritas Processes. This setting has 16 Caritas Coaches® who have acquired expertise in human caring from an accredited program of the Watson Caring Science Institute ( www.watsoncaringscience.org ). Methods: Caritas Coaches® were mobilized to implement holistic caring–healing modalities such as aromatherapy and mindfulness meditation throughout the organization. Findings: By addressing the self-care needs of caregivers, the organizational culture shifted fr...
Leader–follower interactions during times of complexity are critical in managing rapid change demands and ensuring organizational sustainability. Between early 2020 and 2023, many organizations worldwide witnessed an unprecedented need for organizational change that rapidly transformed the work environment. This study focused on understanding the contexts of leader and follower interactions during times of change using the shifting organizational landscapes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Applying a qualitative methodology, we collected data from 12 leaders across multiple business sectors in Africa, Asia, and the United States using semi-structured interviews. We then transcribed the interviews and applied an iterative phronetic approach to analyze the data by engaging complexity leadership, emotion in organizations, leading with empathy, belonging, and power and control as theoretical lenses for data analysis. We analyzed how individual leadership experiences during a time of complexity...
