All participants (N = 8) took photographs as a natural way of capturing moments, scenes, and events that occurred during their immersion experience. Four weeks after the trip, each student selected photographs that were a meaningful visual representation of their experience and participated in a semistructured interview conducted by one of the three faculty investigators. Photo-elicitation captured the cultural, professional, and personal transformations of the students through a process that included "letting go," "confronting reality," and "coming to an understanding." The use of photo-elicitation as a qualitative research method enabled a deeper, more poignant exploration of the impact of a global service-learning experience.

Researchers inquired into that moment when students intervened like a nurse. Results were analyzed by groups and then compared. The assumptions and style of the Dutch school of phenomenology guided the collection and analysis of data. Among identified themes were traditional nursing role functions. Students from the CBC perceived a comparatively broader scope for nursing practice, broader definition of client, and a more nuanced description of the nurse's role. Seniors from the TC described a developmental trajectory which culminated in being able to intervene like a nurse. Responses from both participant groups confirm the importance of nurse-client and nurse-nurse proximities for the development of professional nursing in both structured and unstructured settings.

One strategy for promoting healthy aging is having older persons participate in health promotion programs. Nurse-managed wellness clinics (NMWCs) staffed by advanced practice nurses (APNs) offer an option for health promotion among older individuals. This article describes the APN role in implementing and evaluating two NMWCs for older people living in urban, high-rise apartment buildings subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Lessons learned about structure, process, and outcomes in a community-based wellness center are identified and discussed.

The authors describe a unique and cost-efficient method of using standardized patients to evaluate these skills. The project involved undergraduate students representing standardized patients for graduate advanced practice nurse students.

This article examines issues related to cesarean section practice patterns, malpractice, rising health care costs, changing childbearing patterns, and risks and benefits to mother and baby. Implications for nurses are discussed as they relate to nursing education, practice, and research.
