The entire society should preserve the natural resources in a sustainable way. Geological processes and quarrying created and still creates cultural heritage in landscapes, villages and cities worldwide. Rock outcrops, historical quarries, forms of extraction and buildings built with stones are a heritage that should safeguard. This work details a geotourism route that would bring new life to Tras-os-Montes e Alto Douro University (UTAD) campus. The proposed route connects a historical quarry located in the UTAD campus with the main church built with its granite and different rock outcrops that show the geological history of the city of Vila Real (Portugal). It envisages a three-points of interest tour from the Fernando Real Geology Museum (UTAD) to a church built with Prezandães granite from Folhadela.

The inquiry collected recordings the researchers made of an engraving of a deer on rock 27 of Foppe di Nadro in Valcamonica, Italy. The aim was to follow the passage from visual perception to the reproduction of the engraving on the recording medium and observe similarities and differences between the drawings. Consistencies and variations in both perception and execution became discernible, allowing questions to be answered. How uniform and diverse are the perceptions of different people?

Rock-art site accessibility the cases of Dos Sottolaiolo and Massi di Cemmo, Valcamonica, Italy, 2021
Concerns about accessibility in places of public interest is an issue that should never be forgot... more Concerns about accessibility in places of public interest is an issue that should never be forgotten. A person’s physical, sensory or social condition should not exclude access to leisure and culture resources. The United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 13 December 2006. Ratifed by 87% of the members, it came into force on 3 May 2008. The convention is the frst comprehensive human rights treaty of the 21st century. Article 9 point 1 states, “To enable persons with disabilities to live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life, States Parties shall take appropriate measures to ensure to persons with disabilities access, on an equal basis with others, to the physical environment, to transportation, to information and communications, including information and communications technologies and systems, and to other facilities and services open or provided to the public, both in urban and in rural areas.” (UN 2006) Many public places and archaeological sites are a challenge. Its can be diffcult to make them accessible. The natural location of some hinder access. For others, it is a simple lack of will and knowledge. The main problems are to resolve the physical problems, as well as management and financial issues. In many cases, it is only necessary to make simple adjustments to transform the site into a place capable of welcoming visitors with different special needs.

Summary - Most sanctuaries in the Douro region are high and isolated. Pilgrimages and festivals take place there that, at times, involve hundreds of people. As in the past, access, both in and around the sites, is difficult. Even so, International treaties and Portuguese legislation proclaim that all citizens, whatever their disability, have the right to have access to these locations. Here, we analyse the current situation and discuss possible solutions to the problems.
