This study aims at finding the relationship between elderly people’s perceived state of loneliness and their choice of (old and/or new) media instruments. The sample of the study consists of randomly selected 300 elderly people over 60 who reside in rest homes in two different cities, Hatay and Istanbul in Turkey. Participants were given a questionnaire with three sections. The first section included questions related to the participants’ demographic characteristics. Adapted from Russell’s (1996) “Loneliness Scale (Version 3)”, the second part was related to participants’ perceived state of loneliness. Final section was about their choice of media and related details such as aim and time spent on them. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition and disorder causing psychological deterioration triggered by terrifying events or traumatic experiences either by experiencing or by witnessing it. This study aims to criticize the definition and misinterpretation of “the East-the Orient” in the scope of Antakya city according to Orientalist approach and to analyze how this approach put into practice by the narration of the Westerners via scrutinizing digital media platforms. To uncover this dominant narration, Said's Orientalist theory has been explored for the main arguments of the study. With the help of cognitive semiotics benchmarks, three digital media platforms are analyzed to indicate how Orientalist perspectives dominate the narration and representation of Antakya. Although the city conveys modern lifestyle and outlook, these perspectives are omitted, and these narrations fail to represent the core and unique characteristics of Antakya. The research question centred on how to develop critical reading skills in EFL learners, based on the critical language awareness approach. A case study was conducted for the specific methodological issues and possible solutions. Lewin's model of action-research, which involves a cyclic sequence with two major parts, was adopted. It was a total process in which a problem situation was diagnosed, remedial action planned and implemented, and its effects monitored. In the diagnostic part, the first three stages, critical reading problems of the group were analysed and a specific tailor-made approach was integrated to the current syllabus. Interview result and the overall assessment of the study indicated that, there was no explicit and miracle formula to offer a practical way of designing an EFL reading course which covered critical thinking and reading. Since critical reading tasks are means to an end, not an end in itself, what matters in the end is the extent to which the students can get into the habit of critical reading.

Buna göre: yaşam yapılandırılmış ve devam eden bir anlatı
duygusunu kaybettiğinde yani epizodik bir hale dönüştüğünde
bu durum artık yaşamak değildir. Arzuları tatmin etmek
için anlamdan feragat etmek yaşamın bütünlüklü anlatı yapısını
tehlikeye atar. Kontrolümüzde olmayan bir biçimde yakınların
ölümü, karşılıksız aşk, fazlalıklar, kötü sağlık, bağımlı olmak gibi
her türlü şey acı verse de kendi anlatı yapısı içinde bir tutarlılığa
sahip olabilir. Bu anlatı ve yaşam öyküsü içinde ötanazinin rolü
kendi isteğiyle yaşama anlamlı bir son verme ve kontrol altına
almadır. Üstelik hiç kimse 'karaktersiz ölmek' ve kendi üzerindeki
kontrolünü kaybetmek istemez. Bu anlamda ötanazi bireye son bölümün yazılması fırsatını veren temel bir haktır (Paterson,
2008: 64).
Yaşamın değeri ve ölüm arasındaki ilişki ve bu tartışmaların
arka planında sinema tekinsiz bir alan ve söyleme sahiptir. Bu
çalışmada yaşamın değeri ya da değersizliği sistem üzerinde öznenin
otonom hakkı ve bunun da ötesinde kendi bedeninden
vazgeçme hakkı Soylent Green filmi üzerinden incelenmektedir.
1973 yapımı bu distopik filmde 2022 yılında iklim krizi sonucu
yaşanan açlık ve sefaletle başa çıkmaya çalışan bireylere sunulan
ötanazi hakkı konu edilmektedir. Filmde yok olma noktasına gelen
gıda kaynaklarının yerine gizlice insan bedenlerinin kullanılması
ve bunu bilmeyen topluma sistem tarafından estetize edilmiş
bir ölüm fikrinin kabul ettirilişi işlenmektedir. Hans Magnus
Enzerberger 1974 yılında kaleme aldığı Bilinç Endüstrisi kitabında;
toplumu kimin ne yaparak yönlendirdiğinin önemsiz olduğunu
söylemektedir. Temel görev bilincin sömürülecek kıvama
getirilebilmesi için harcanması ve eğitilmesidir (Enzerberger,
1964:10, aktaran Berger, 1993: 58).
Bu çalışmanın ana izleği; Soylent Green filminde geçen yaşam
değeri, çöp bedenler ve onurlu ölüm gibi ana temaları ötanazi
ekseninde kapitalist bir bakışla ele alıp felsefi, hukuki, biyo-etik
ve sosyo-kültürel tartışmalar şeklinde açımlamaktır. Çalışmada
ötenazi kavramı, insanın kendi bedeninden vazgeçme hakkının
yanında onurlu yaşam düşüncesiyle ilişkisi bağlamında ele alınmaktadır.
Bu açıdan bakıldığında kendi yaşamı üzerindeki kontrolü
kaybedenlerin en azından onurlu bir ölümü tercih ederek
kendi anlatılarını oluşturmaları söz konusu olabilmektedir. Çalışmanın
değerlendirme yöntemi Soylent Green filminin içerik ve
söylem analizidir.
Filmin çözümlenmesinde özellikle filmin vizyona girdiği yıllarda
Amerikan toplumunun içinde bulunduğu sosyal, ekonomik
ve siyasi dinamiklerinin dikkate alınması tür, tema ve karakterlerin
motivasyonlarını yorumlama konusunda etkili olacaktır.

ana akım Hollywood’un ürettiği distopyalar üzerinde belirleyici
olmuştur (Olszynko ve Ellis, 2018: 4-6).
Film, hikâyeyi inandırıcı ve çarpıcı kılmak adına özellikle
kahramanın karizmasını merkeze alır ve mesajını net olarak verebilmek
için kapalı uçlu soruları gündemde tutar. Özellikle bu
film için de geçerli olan bio-etik kavramı çerçevesinde doğru ve
yanlışın ne olduğu konusundaki ikilemi önemli bir anlatı unsuru
olarak kullanmayı seçer (Farina vd., 2016: 298).
Soylent Green filmi bilimkurgu yazarı Harry Harrison’un 1966
tarihli Make Room! Make Room! romanından uyarlanmıştır. Romandaki
formunda yer almasa da filmin düşünsel ikliminde var
olan insan nüfusunun çoğalmasının durdurulması fikri önemli
bir unsurdur. Harrison’un eserinde Sol ve Shirl arasında geçen
bir diyalogda bu duruma işaret edilir. Shirl insanların inanmadıkları
bir şeyi yapmaya zorlanamayacaklarını söyler. Doğum
kontrolünün bebekleri öldürmeyle bir ilgisi olmadığını bilâkis
hastalık ve açlıktan ölmelerini engelleyerek onları bir şekilde koruyacağını
ifade eder. Konuşmanın devamında Sol bilimin doğa
yasalarını ihlâl ettiğine atıfta bulunur (Olszynko ve Ellis, 2018:
11, 13). Ancak film daha çok iklim krizi, yiyecek bulamama ve
açlık temaları üzerinden işlenmiştir.

İnsanoğlu var olduğundan beri yaşadığı, gördüğü, şahit olduğu, tanık olduğu her durumu anlamlandırmak ve bütün bunları anlamlı bir kurgu içine yerleştirmek ister. Bu kurgularda gerçek hayatta karşılığı olmayan giriş, gelişme ve sonuç gibi her aşamasının anlamlandırıldığı bir süreç üzerinden hayatına anlam verme ihtiyacını karşılar (Hemmings, 2011). Gerçek hayatta başı olan bir şeyin sonu olmayabilir ya da bütünsel bir akışı olmayabilir. Mitosların bu kadar kabul görmesinin sebebi çoğunlukla bu anlamlı sebep sonuç ilişkileridir. Dolayısıyla öykülerdeki katman katman durum insanın edebiyata ve öyküye olan psikolojik, sosyal ve bilişsel ihtiyaçlarından kaynaklanmaktadır. Bilinç, yalnızca karmaşık nöronal sistemin potansiyeli olarak ortaya çıkan bir özellik olarak değil aynı zamanda kendi başına ciddiye alınmalıdır. It is also surrounded by problems that do not fit the human profile of advanced civilization, such as pandemics, famine, the end of the human species, and threats of nuclear war. Algorithmic governmentality predicts the collapse of human-centered systems, It also involves many unaccounted-for paradigm shifts. Political from the perspective of popular social media platforms, digital culture, and
habitus, democratic democracies as common public spaces in terms of the right to free speech. but in these spaces, people often interact with each other in a real way. to wage cyber warfare instead of making speeches only in their narratives. They are repeating their version of the truth. Different views and cultures communication between people is a confrontation of obvious ideological polarization and conflict.In these so-called echo chambers, fossilized mindsets seem to echo their repetitions forever. What is needed here, therefore, is to persist despite these deep-rooted and fossilized problems. and original approaches for the future of humanity and the achievement of sustainable peace.

Augmented Intelligence and New Approaches in Human-Machine Collaboration

The ambivalent nature of advanced technology profoundly shapes our approach to it. When AI challenges human
intelligence and its limits, it triggers paranoid discourses that it is ultimately working with anti-human paradigms. The genie
is no longer in the bottle. Many skeptical philosophers are capitalizing on widespread fears that AI is working smart behind
our backs or rebuilding another level of humanity. At this point, however, optimistic approaches to AI are also emerging.
Here the famous chess player Kasparov discusses the possibility of human-machine cooperation, devising a new formula
of “a weak human and a machine with a better process”. This combination is thought to be superior to a powerful computer
alone. It is even superior to a powerful human and machine with inferior methods. Here the nature of human-machine
communication goes beyond the Human-Machine Interface. This paper will explore the concept of Augmented Intelligence
as used by Lickider together with the perspectives of Heidegger, Stiegler and Anderson. The challenge of living under
the dominance of Algorithmic Governance challenges the Human Centered life on Earth, making human life mundane.
Augmented Intelligence, the sociotechnical concept, transforms the debate on technological advances from negative
approaches that see it as a Trojan Horse in human social settings to more constructive ones. This perspective enriches the
possibilities of hybrid mechanisms that bring together human-machine collaborations that can be seen as the only salvation
for human beings. The paper will conclude with an examination of new technocultural and sociotechnical arguments.

HETEROTOPIA AND HETEROCHRONY IN METAVERSE AS
CHANGING PERCEPTION OF SPACE AND TIME
ABSTRACT
Looking at the Metaverse universe or virtual communication environments in which XR technologies are used, it is evident that heterogeneity enriches it, let alone reflecting the reality since a set of positions and even reality itself is played with. In Virtual reality platforms, in Extended, Augmented, or Mixed reality, it is possible to encounter confusing situations regarding reality, space, and time. Where space and time collide, realities can also change in multiple layers. Real life itself takes place in heterogeneous spaces but this heterogeneity is not a space where people and
things can be placed, and most importantly, spaces and lives are designed within a set of relations defined by locations. For Foucault, understanding life and space is partly based on understanding these positions and the ensemble of relationships that surround them. In real life, space is a place full of certain qualities, rather than a homogeneous and empty space, which is given meaning in our minds, dreams, and memories. This study therefore will analyze Foucault’s and other scholars’ ideas on
heterotopia and heterochrony by attaching these concepts to the multiple spaces and universes created in the Metaverse. From a correlated perspective, Ray Oldenburg defines the subject's experience of space as the third place which is somehow the interaction between space, body, and duration. With this conceptualization, the third space is a place realized with the body and time is not an empty time with a definite beginning and end. A beginning and an end of time convey full of vitality about the existence of the body. On the other hand, technological arrangements in which Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality were applied did not only change the visual perception, visual narrative language, and the type of entertainment. The perception of alternative space or the idea that other lives are possible is an intrinsic search for the subject. When looking at Metaverse environments from a Levinasian perspective, virtual reality perhaps appears as a new alternative that provides the opportunity to escape from existence. The idea of creating different spaces and alternative realities by experiencing a different sense of time can be attached to the predictions of Byung Chul Han, who relates today's crisis to time. For Chul Han, time, today no longer has a regulating rhythm.

Defective Digital Reading Habits and Post-Truth Period
The defective digital reading habits characterized the post-truth era which were directly related to the problems experienced in the perception of truth. Daniel Kahneman proposes here in the same line with this idea that people rationalize emotions while thinking. In the world of digital reading, the process of rationalization of emotions causes not only perceptual but also cognitive problems. The absence of critical thinking and the inadequacies in questioning the truths have also revealed a problematic reality about the new generation, the digital natives, who are dealing with the digital world. This generation is more disadvantaged than digital immigrants because they were born into a culture based on images or multimedia without directly dealing with written text. The digital view of the Z generation, which has a different perspective on the world of another and the other, is a synoptic view, contrary to the logic of panoptic surveillance. The perception of the world of the other and others, the perception of space, the marketing of products, and the pursuit of lives focus on thousands of digital eyes whose existence is not known. In social media such as Instagram called digital towers, we also play with the perception of space to reach a problematic reality perception. Here

Therefore, the post-truth period is a period in which real meanings are lost due to the compression of time. Dominant Superficial reading habits are directly connected to digital violence. People in this post-truth age tend to be too reactive to things based on sensational news not analyzing critically. These present reading habits and the digital perspective negatively affect the most important intellectual and emotional developments of our brains, such as the internalization of information, analogical logic, the ability to interpret, adjust perspective and perspective, empathy, critical analysis, and the formation of insight. This study will analyze how visual imagery based on visual reality is desensitized by our visual perceptions and does not allow deep reading. The examples in the context of Turkish culture can also be read as the new types of violence and crime committed in digital media. The study will also exemplify digital readings and cognitive problems that threaten deep reading processes.

Partly due to the mobility and anonymity, mostly due to the culture of the digital world, it is argued post-truth era facilitates dishonesty and it desensitizes us to its implications. It is the era in which ethics and honesty are in jeopardy. It is the era of deception, lies, serial liars, official lies, credibility gaps, unethical acts, and cheating. However, the perception or acceptance of the lies gives those deceptions prismatic effects. We all accept that digital media has negatively changed our critical thinking paradigms. Therefore, critics of this post-truth age discuss the absence of both critical thinking and questioning the realities. Although new cyber platforms allow their users, safe places to articulate their thoughts freely, these digital towers are mostly built by rationalized emotions. In 2013, psychologist Daniel Kahneman characterized this post-truth situation as the default of human reasoning as left to its own devices human reasoning is apt to engage in several fallacies and systematic errors. For Kahneman, if we want to make better decisions in our personal lives and as a society, we must be aware of these biases and seek workarounds. On the same line, following Steve Tesich’s first use of post-truth politics as a new terminology, Ralph Keyes, in his book The Post-Truth Era, discussed the role of lies and the institutionalization of lies in media. He states that in the post-truth era, we don’t just have truth and lies. We have a third category of euphemism. They are called enhanced truth, neo-truth,
soft truth, faux truth, or truth lite. In addition to the problematic realization of truth and its unethical side, euphemism cannot be understood well without a deep analysis of Foucault’s arguments on the Problematization of Parrhesia. Also, as social media paves the way to polarize society, many countries are experiencing a post-truth era at different levels. While Aristotle frames three modes of persuasion ethos, pathos, and logos as instruments of persuasion effectively, here in post truth age irrational explanations can easily find supporters. Politic figures mostly use pathos, which is emotional speech, and often rely on their ethos, their status as a loved figure. People are easily persuaded based on their original fixed thoughts disregarding the proofs. In their digital places, characters can easily disguise themselves in cyber identities and wage their war using different shields as a protective mechanism. The purpose of this study is to define dishonesty, the post-truth era, and digital media through these discussions by consuming the subject from social and cultural points of view with factual examples. Based on relevant literature and research findings, they will be conceptualized in the context of this study. The study ignites thorough cognition of the absence of critical thinking and honesty in digital media to analyze them explicitly for further studies on post-truth.

People from all walks of life have suffered from the burden of digital work, ambiguity, and economic recession. As Chul Han discusses in The Scent of Time, the perception of time and its management worsened the situation. While digital violence and crimes have been increasing, people have been pushed to live by the strict structures of discipline in society and capitalism. In these dark times, Turkish popular media resort to products that contain psychological consultancy content. Here we come across a newly fledging genre of digital media that works for Psychological Consultancy. This study will explore the TV series “Kırmızı Oda” and “Masumlar Apartmanı” along with YouTube videos hosted by their scenario consultants Gülseren Budayıcıoğlu.
