The description of Corsica, essentially
identical to the one provided by Pomponius Mela, shows an island organized in semi-urbanized villages around two coloniae, deducted at the end of the Republican age. The more detailed formula of Sardinia seems to circumscribe the towns only to the south central part of the
island, bordering at the same time the tribes North of the river Tirso, with the only exception of the colony of Turris Libisonis.

desire of Sardinian antiquarians to reconstruct local history through the help of epigraphic
documentation. In the 17th century, the purposes of counterfeiters were primarily to boost
the cultural and political primacy of both Cagliari and Sassari, to extol the close relationship between Sardinia and Spain, and to assert the Christian roots of Sardinian culture. In the 19th century , the main objectives were firstly to reinstate the island’s prestige and, secondly, to reinforce its role in the cultural landscape of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

numerous castra and of rural settlements of various legal nature, particularly in the eastern part of the territory, in nearest contact with the Greek towns on the shore and in Thrace. In these agglomerations gathered peregrini, veterani and cives Romani often consistentes. The vici of Moesiae, with own magistrates and territory, do not seem ever to have ever reached full autonomy.

burials; sometimes it referred to the profession of the deceased but during the third century A.D. it had mainly an apotropaic value: the dolabra perhaps alluding to a tomb guarded by a collegium tenuiorum.
