COMBEK seeks to address the need for research that explores and embraces the novel, challenging but crucial issue of adapting knowledge resources to their user communities, and using them as a key instrument in building knowledgeintensive Internet systems. Through a deep understanding of the real-time, community-driven, evolution of shared knowledge structures and knowledge bases, including ontologies, folksonomies, and/or shared conceptual models, a Web-based knowledge-intensive system can be made ...

ABSTRACT In many business applications that could be built on the basis of Linked Open Data, the conversion of monetary amounts from one currency to another is a much-needed functionality. For example, hotel prices in a comparison shopping application may have to deal with prices given in differing currencies. While currency conversion APIs exist on the Web, their integration into operations over RDF data is still burdensome and requires proprietary code. In this paper, we propose to integrate currency conversion functionality from open Web APIs into the Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud in a conceptually clean, scalable way that (1) adheres to the LOD design guidelines, (2) removes the need for proprietary code, (3) can be accessed from client-side JavaScript, and (4) works with any standard SPARQL processor that is able to retrieve a RDF representation by dereferencing a resource URI. We argue that our solution serves as a good generic pattern for integrating Web APIs into the LOD cloud, beyond the practical relevance of the concrete implementation.

The documentation of Enterprise Research Planning (ERP) systems is usually (1) extremely large and (2) combines various views from the business and the technical implementation perspective. Also, a very specific vocabulary has evolved, in particular in the SAP domain (e.g. SAP Solution Maps or SAP software module names). This vocabulary is not clearly mapped to business management terminology and concepts.

ABSTRACT For typical Web developers, it is complicated to integrate content from the Semantic Web to an existing Web site. On the contrary, most software packages for blogs, content management, and shop applications support the simple syndication of content from external sources via data feed formats, namely RSS and Atom. In this paper, we describe a novel technique for consuming useful data from the Semantic Web in the form of RSS or Atom feeds. Our approach combines (1) the simplicity and broad tooling support of existing feed formats, (2) the precision of queries against structured data built upon common Web vocabularies like schema.org, GoodRelations, FOAF, SIOC, or VCard, and (3) the ease of integrating content from a large number of Web sites and other data sources of RDF in general. We also (4) provide a pattern for embedding RDFa into the feed content in a "viral" way so that the original URIs of entities are included in all Web pages that republish the original content and that those pages will link back to the original content. This helps prevent the proliferation of identifiers for entities and provides a simple means for tracking the document URI at which particular content reappears.

ABSTRACT To date, the automatic exchange of product information between business partners in a value chain is typically done using Business-to-Business (B2B) catalog standards such as EDIFACT, cXML, or BMEcat. At the same time, the Web of Data, in particular the GoodRelations vocabulary, offers the necessary means to publish highly-structured product data in a machine-readable format. The advantage of the publication of rich product descriptions can be manifold, including better integration and exchange of information between Web applications, high-quality data along the various stages of the value chain, or the opportunity to support more precise and more effective searches. In this paper, we (1) stress the importance of rich product master data for e-commerce on the Semantic Web, and (2) present a tool to convert BMEcat XML data sources into an RDF-based data model anchored in the GoodRelations vocabulary. The benefits of our proposal are tested using product data collected from a set of 2500+ online retailers of varying sizes and domains.

ABSTRACT In this paper, we describe the technical approach of and experiences gained in exposing a major share of the European building and construction materials market on the basis of the GoodRelations Web vocabulary for e-commerce. This allows for the fine-grained search for products, suppliers, and warehouses for any building-related sourcing needs. Because building materials show a very high item specificity, they are very interesting for new types of search. Also, transportation costs for building materials are very significant, which makes the distance from the warehouse to the point of consumption a critical dimension of search. Based on existing data sources, we were able to include a rich, machine-readable description of individual product features using the FreeClassOWL ontology, which allow for multi-dimensional search. The result is one of the largest and richest public datasets for a well-defined trade sector that is available on the Semantic Web.
